A New Toolkit for Energy Planning for Isolated Microgrids

Rural areas in various locations are facing electricity shortages and are compelled to heavily rely on non-renewable and ecologically harmful fossil fuels as their primary source of energy. To address this issue, microgrids were proposed as a solution to provide energy to these areas. An IEEE working group, the SESDC Working Group, was established to investigate the feasibility of implementing isolated microgrids as solutions in these communities. However, it has been identified that a proper software tool for microgrid planning is needed to accurately analyze the optimal microgrid configuration. Thus, a user-friendly and secure web-based system for microgrid planning was proposed. This tool was developed using the Django web development framework and Python programming language. It was then validated with users to ensure that the data entered is calculated correctly and produced the expected results.

This paper presents a formal development approach for designing interactive applications using a correct-by-construction approach. In this work, we propose a refinement strategy using model-view-controller (MVC) to structure and design Event-B formal models of the interactive application. The proposed MVC-based refinement strategy facilitates the development of an abstract model and a series of refined models by introducing the possible modes, controller's behaviour and visual components of the interactive application while preserving the required interaction-related safety properties. To demonstrate the effectiveness, scalability, reliability and feasibility of our approach, we use a small example (from automotive domain) and real-life industrial case studies (from aviation). The entire development is realized in Event-B and the associated Rodin tool is used to analyse and verify the correctness of the formalized model. Finally, the developed Event-B models are used to generate source code using EB2ALL tool for going from the specification to the implementation of the interactive application.

The planetary success of Wikipedia has opened the road to using wikis as shared resources for communities to collect and organize facts, concepts, and structures that constitute both the shared knowledge of the community and, more often than not, the very reason for the community to exist. The ease of creating, editing, and debating one's own and each other's contributions to the wiki knowledge-based are key aspects of the success and livelihood of the community itself. The need for semantic wiki data cannot be separated from the need of friendly authoring environments for those data. This paper introduces a framework that allows users to easily create semantic wiki content by exploiting ontology-driven forms and templates. The system, called OWiki, is an instantiation of a more general model, named GAFFE, that exploits ontologies to generate metadata editors. Both GAFFE and OWiki are presented in this paper, with particular attention to the way they exploit ontologies to model the community shared knowledge, the interfaces used to create that knowledge, and the way it evolves.

Many current Web technologies lend themselves to bad practices, including cut-and-paste reuse, ad hoc scripts, direct-to-database code, and fragmented business logic. Arguing that good design practices are increasingly important in Web development, the authors described a framework for layered architectures based on the Smalltalk GUI development pattern of model-view-controller. This framework lets developers focus on writing application code instead of dealing with servlets, requests, or session variables.

RDGSM(the Regional Database for Geothermal Surface Manifestation) is a distributed database designed for IAEA which used to manage isotope and hydrology data in asian-pacific region. The data structure of RDGSM is introduced in the paper. An mobile database structure based on 32ME/J2EE is proposed. The design and development of RDGSM isotope database is demonstrated in detail. The data synchronization method, model-view-controller design model and data integrity constraint method are discussed to implement mobile database application.

Data display on a mobile device is not the same as on a desktop system. There are constraints of memory and screen size, which make it difficult to display large a amount of data. We have proposed a simple but novel caching and data replenishment mechanism through which a large amount of data can be displayed efficiently on a mobile device without slowing down the mobile.

We show in this paper our experiences and results in teaching different user interface technologies. Our focus is one of the biggest ERP solutions, which offers several UI possibilities. We have recognized that different technologies require different knowledge from programming, design, fantasy and robustness aspects as well. On the other hand the students' age, educational environment, graduate level and of course the interest are also important factors how and what to teach them. We show the practical problems and give adequate sequences for different approaches based on our study and experiences.

Drilling system software is crucial for the complex geological drilling process due to its vital role in improving the drilling efficiency and safety. In this paper, a model-view-controller (MVC) pattern-based software framework and data architecture of an intelligent drilling system are proposed. First, four main functional requirements, namely. data fusion and visualization, safety assessment and efficiency calculation, efficiency and safety optimization. and coordination control have been analyzed. After that, a four-layers is established based on the above analysis and MVC pattern. Finally, a new online data architecture has been presented at the end of this paper. The proposed software framework and data architecture form a basis for the monitoring of the drilling process.

Shortening the education-to-employment gap is an urgent priority for higher education in Taiwan. However, the process is comprehensive. From curriculum analysis, the academic institutions find out industry needs and build basic and core competencies. They assign these competencies to various courses during curriculum planning/development. Eventually, they evaluate the results using competence indicator or curriculum map to determine if the student has met the core competency requirements. For students, how to get the results easily and quickly is what they care about. This study proposes a progressive web app (PWA) emphasizing user experiences to provide students with a convenient way to obtain the results of core competency assessments. This application also suggests taking related courses and obtaining certificates to prevent students from taking irrelevant courses and miss opportunities to improve their employability.

All program code of the System is divided into three component types: Module, Package, Client. The System is developed on the microservice architecture principles, components are developed using the MVC design pattern. The System data handlers are DICOM with medical images and databases which accumulate and store the source information. The user software interfaces provided by so-called clients. Each software "client" is an application of three possible types: Desktop, Mobile, Web. Each package of software implies the possibility to reuse in all System components. This method of code organization makes it easy to maintain, complement, implement and scale the results.
