In late 2007, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) launched Data Vault, a feature-rich web application for simplified access to NRAO data archives. This application allows users to Submit a Google-like free-text search, and browse, download, and view further information on matching telescope data. Data Vault uses the model-view-controller design pattern with ***, a minimalist open-source web framework built with the Python Programming Language. Data Vault implements an Ajax client built on the Google Web Toolkit (GWT), which creates structured JavaScript applications. This application supports plug-ins for linking data to additional web tools and services, including Google Sky. NRAO sought the inspiration of Google's remarkably elegant user interface and notable performance to create a modem search tool for the NRAO science data archive, taking advantage of the rapid development frameworks of *** and GWT to create a web application on a short timeline, while providing modular, easily maintainable code. Data Vault provides users with a NRAO-focused data archive while linking to and providing more information wherever possible. Free-text search capabilities are possible (and even simple) with an innovative query parser. NRAO develops all software under an open-source license;Data Vault is available to developers and users alike.

Enterprise-scale applications are developed with an object-oriented approach, meanwhile, the widely used database management system now is a relational database, the mismatch between relational database and application development of the object-oriented concept is a problem between object-oriented environment with environment Relational Database Management System (mismatch impedances). This paper discusses the implementation of Eloquent Object Relational Mapping (ORM) for developing of Biodiversity Information System (BIS) and model view controller (MVC), which focuses on mapping the relations medicinal, wood, and tree object in the form of associations;One to One relationship, One to Many, Many to Many, Polymorphic Relations, Many Through Many, Many to Many Polymorphic Relations. The results of the implementation explain that the six concepts of association owned by Eloquent ORM can facilitate complex data relationships such as BIS by simplifying complex code writing to relate between tables by relating the class model so that it can be a solution to deal with complex data cases such as BIS. Eloquent ORM can mediate between the application layer and the database environment by transforming data from the relational database environment into object form and vice versa.

The multi views analysis and design of information is one of the key contents of Personalization Set-vice of Document Information Technology. The programming with architecture of model-view-controller shows the separation of data operation and data display. This architecture not only can be used in the visible programming, but also visible component to deal with their individual business. This article discussed on the function and relationship of each part in the WC structure from two aspects-complete executable program and visual component object, explaining how did the system structure apply in information visualization analysis and design by using information multi-view design example.

Developing a system for semiautomatic building acquisition is a complex process. that requires constant integration and updating of software modules and user intel faces. To facilitate these processes we apply an object-oriented design not only for the data but also for the software involved. We use the Unified modeling Language (UML) to describe the object-oriented modeling of the system in different levels of detail. We can distinguish between use cases from the users point of view, that represent a sequence of actions, yielding in an observable result and the use cases for the programmers, who can use the system as a class library to integrate the acquisition modules in their own software. The structure of the system is based on the model-view-controller (MVC) design pattern. An example from the integration of automated texture extraction for the visualization of results demonstrate the feasibility of this approach.

The article will be useful for colleagues who are engaged in the development of client applications for Windows and other operation systems. The author proposes to begin designing a software system not from building a domain model and not from identifying classes, but from dividing the designed application into system layers. In contrast to the standard three-layer architecture, the application is divided into 5 layers. The purpose of these layers and approaches to the classes identification on each of them is described. The proposed methodology is used in the development of internal tools used in the game development process of Larian Studios.

It is common practice to create new technologies with the existing ones and eventually replace them. We investigate the domain of user interfaces (UIs) in self-supporting programming environments. The Squeak/Smalltalk programming system has a history of almost 20 years of replacing Smalltalk-80's model-view-controller (MVC) with Self's Morphic, a direct manipulation interface. In the course of this transition, we think it is likely that Squeak managed to provide an abstraction for arbitrary UI frameworks, called projects. In this paper, we describe plain Squeak without its user interface, considering object collaboration, code execution, and extension points in the virtual machine. We implemented a command-line interface, the Squeak Shell, to emphasize the simplicity of adding a new UI to Squeak using this project concept. We believe that self-supporting programming environments can benefit from multiple user interfaces to accommodate a variety of tasks.

In this paper, an application framework for distributed multimedia is proposed. The framework is based on model-New-controller of Smalltalk-80. Development of highly interactive multimedia applications for today's high-powered computer is complex and time consuming. The application framework has "hooks" to allow an application programmer to plug in objects that represent the functionality unique to this application. The distributed processing of multimedia information enables advanced application areas like video conferencing, video on demand and improves the performance in other areas. Although there has been important progress in models and packages for the output of graphics to computer screens, there has been little change in the way that input from the mouse, keyboard, and other input devices is handled. New graphics standards are still using a fifteen-year-old model even though it is widely accepted as inadequate, and most modern window managers simply return a stream of low-level, device-dependent input events. This paper presents a new model that handles input devices for highly interactive, direct manipulation, graphical user interfaces, which could be used in future toolkits, window managers, and graphics standards. This model encapsulates interactive behaviors into a few "Interactor" object types. Application programs can then create instances of these Interactor objects which hide the details of the underlying window manager events. In addition, Interactors allow a clean separation between the input handling, the graphics, and the application programs. This model has been extensively used as part of the Garnet system and has proven to be convenient, efficient, and easy to learn.

Building a collaborative application from scratch is a hard task. In the last decade many advances have been made to help the developers to construct collaborative applications, however little effort has been made to extend existing single-user applications to support real-time collaboration. This work presents a mapping from the main components of an existing single-user model-view-controller based application to multi-user real-time components of the collaborative application. The mapping allows reuse of existing single-user components by facilitating the construction of collaborative applications. This paper describes the mapping, the extension of an existing single-user application and discusses an experiment of the prototype application where the mapping was applied.

Software extensibility is a software engineering principle that characterizes how easily new features can be added to the software system by requiring no or minimal rewrite of existing code base. Software that is extensible leads to reduced development time, increased stability and security, and better support of software assurance and maintenance. Although it is critically important, the Department of Defense (DoD) utilizes software development documents that provide only limited information and guidance on software extensibility. Moreover, the software development processes supported by the DoD do not fully address model-view-controller (MVC), a design pattern that industry experts recommend for a higher degree of software extensibility. This thesis studies the design patterns and software extensibility in the context of the DoD software development environment with the case study on mobile application design. The design guidance on software extensibility developed in this thesis will integrate well with currently utilized DoD software development documents and processes.
