Wavelet based MBPE Technique for Fast RCS Computation of DNG Metamaterials

Described by the drude model, the DNG metamaterials is essentially a dispersive media, the scattering analysis of it over broad band by asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) technique is difficult since the computation of high order differential coefficients for the impedance matrix elements, to reduce the differential order, the model-based parameter estimation (MBPE) technique based on two expanded points is applied to analysis the scattering characters of double-negative (DNG) metamaterials. A wavelet matrix transform (WMT) is used to get a sparse matrix equation in wavelet-domain, which is solved over a broad frequency band by the MBPE. As compared with AWE, the MBPE technique obtained more accurate results over a broader frequency band.

An interpolation scheme using model-based parameter estimation (MBPE) for fast analysis of the microstrip structures over a wideband is proposed. The microstrip structures are analyzed by the mixed potential integral equation with the generated dense impedance matrix partitioned and compressed hierarchically by the UV method. The linear systems are solved by the generalized minimal residual method with its convergence accelerated by the sparse approximate inversion (SAI) preconditioning technique. Over a wide frequency band, both the near field impedance matrix and the SAI preconditioning matrix are interpolated by MBPE. Numerical results show that the proposed method can reduce the computation time significantly. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present an efficient method for modeling 3-D doubly periodic structures over a wide frequency range based on hybrid finite element/boundary integral (FEBI) methods. The 3-D periodic structures can be represented as non-orthogonal lattices composed of inhomogeneous bianisotropic media with arbitrary metallic patches. Triangular prismatic volume elements were utilized to mesh the unit cell, which provided a great deal of flexibility in modeling complex planar geometries of arbitrary shape. The adaptive integral method (AIM) was applied to speed up the calculation of the matrix-vector product for the BI part within the iterative solver. Furthermore, a model-based parameter estimation (MBPE) technique was proposed for the wide-band interpolation of sparse impedance matrix elements in the BI portion for near field components that were used in the AIM. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by the presented numerical results. To demonstrate the flexibility of the proposed method in modeling arbitrarily shaped elements of frequency selective surfaces (FSS), we included simulation results for an FSS with a non-orthogonal lattice and two elliptical shaped patches embedded in bianisotropic media.

The detection and identification of concealed weapons is an extremely hard problem due to the weak signature of the target buried within the much stronger signal from the human body. This paper furthers the automatic detection and identification of concealed weapons by proposing the use of an effective approach to obtain the resonant frequencies in a measurement. The technique, based on Matrix Pencil, a scheme for model based parameter estimation also provides amplitude information, hence providing a level of confidence in the results. Of specific interest is the fact that Matrix Pencil is based on a singular value decomposition, making the scheme robust against noise.

Multiparametric analysis and optimization for narrow beams radiating from finite antenna arrays

In this paper, a method to improve radiation characteristics of a finite planar array by introducing small perturbations in patch antenna locations is presented. The dependence of the radiation patterns of an individual antenna element in the array is determined for a restricted range of patch locations relative to the array substrate edge and the neighboring antennae elements. A polynomial interpolation function is utilized to map the geometry variables of each antenna to the corresponding radiation pattern. Optimization schemes are then applied to determine the excitation amplitude, phase, and relative spacing of each antenna.

A two-stage algorithm of adaptive model-based parameter estimation and its application in the fast calculation of Green's function in multi-layer soils

A two-stage algorithm is presented to determine an analytical model-based rational function by adaptively selecting sampling points. At the first stage, the rational interpolation function is created by using Stoer-Bulirsch algorithm and comparing the fitted model with the different ranks. At the second stage, the fitted model is validated by comparing with the first-principle model at a set of checking points. Some checking points will be added to the sampling series determined in the first stage to improve the fitted model. The new proposed algorithm is more accurate and effective than that using Stoer-Bulirsch interpolation only due to the fact that it appends the validation approach. When a highly oscillating curve is approximated, the validation ensures the fitting precision. With the two-stage MBPE algorithm, some time-consuming electromagnetic computations can be replaced by the interpolation from the fitting functions, which can increase the computational efficiency greatly. This method is used to calculate the samplings of the Green's functions in a multi-layer horizontal soil to demonstrate its effectiveness. The number of samples used to accurately model such Green's functions is less than 20 for the typical soil parameters. The computational time can be reduced by more than two orders of magnitude compared with that using the conventional uniform sampling technology.

An optimization framework for parameter estimation of large-scale systems

model-based applications like, e.g. optimization or NMPC are more and more used in the chemical industry. The basis of these applications is a detailed process model and measurements from the plant to determine the actual state of the process and to increase the accuracy of the model with parameter estimation techniques. However, these measurements usually contain random as well as gross errors which have to be identified and eliminated before the measurements are used. In this contribution, a framework for data reconciliation and parameter estimation which is able to handle large-scale problems is presented. The approach was integrated into an online optimization framework for the ammonia hydrogen sulfide circulation scrubbing process. To increase the accuracy of the model, we estimated several process parameters using a sequential parameter estimation approach. Data reconciliation was performed based on simple component balances to achieve model-consistent data and to identify measurement biases. The model was then validated online on a pilot plant by connecting the estimation package through the process control system. based on the online measured data, operating cost minimization was carried out and the computed optimal set-points realized real-time. The model-based parameter estimation of antenna radiation patterns using windowed interpolation and spherical harmonics

Techniques previously reported for interpolating antenna radiation patterns simultaneously in both the spatial and frequency domains are reexamined here in order to develop new algorithms with improved efficiency and speed while maintaining comparable accuracy. To this end, interpolation in the frequency domain is constrained to a windowed scheme whereby a series of reduced-order Pade rational function fitting models of only three or. four sampling frequencies are used to interpolate over a relatively large bandwidth. The use of this piece-wise technique is shown to reduce the complexity of determining the unknown coefficients without any significant loss in the resulting interpolation accuracy or increase in the required number of sampling frequencies. In this paper, exact analytical expressions are found for the unknown coefficients that allow the spatial domain interpolation to be performed entirely separate from the frequency domain interpolation. The technique is applied to the case of a 0.5 meter dipole modeled from 150 to 950 MHz, and for theta from 0degrees to 90degrees, using fitting windows with three and four sampling frequencies. The results are compared to those obtained using a previously developed generalized simultaneous interpolation procedure. In the spatial domain, spherical harmonics are introduced as model-based fitting functions for antenna radiation patterns. Specifically, interpolation procedures are developed using zonal harmonics and tesseral harmonics to model one- and two-dimensional far-field radiation patterns, respectively. The case of a z-oriented 0.5 meter dipole is considered to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy obtained by applying these physically-based fitting models in the spatial domain. Zonal harmonics are used to interpolate far-field radiation patterns of this antenna for theta from 0degrees to 180degrees for several different frequencies over the range from 150 to 950 MHz.
