This bibliometric analysis identifies the extent to which the methodical development of modular product families (product side) and agile project development (process side) can be beneficial for coping with complex product development tasks. The accomplished co-occurrence analysis reveals an indirect relationship between the development of modular product families and agile product development. This indirect connection is because the different methods are incorporated in the field of Design Methodology. However, the analysis leaves a gap in the direct interaction of both subjects, a subsequently accomplished bibliographic coupling points out. A consecutive in-depth abstract and paper analysis reveals further research on their integration is necessary. © 2023 IEEE.

The modular Control of Cereal Endosperm development

Expansion of the human population demands a significant increase in cereal production. The main component of cereal grains is endosperm, a body of starchy endosperm (SE) cells surrounded by aleurone (AL) cells with transfer cells (TC) at the base and embryo surrounding (ESR) cells adjacent to the embryo. The data reviewed here emphasize the modular nature of endosperm by first suggesting that sucrose promotes development of the fertilized triploid endosperm cell. Next, that the basal syncytial endosperm responds to glucose by turning on TC development. The default endosperm cell fate is SE and ESR differentiation is likely activated by signaling from the embryo. Cells on the exterior surface of the endosperm are specified as AL cells.

Studying on the design of automobile constant velocity universal joint based on mass customization

In order to improve the efficiency of the company's selection and configuration of automobile constant velocity universal joint, and to reduce the enterprise's internal production costs, a method for the development and design of automobile constant velocity universal joint was proposed based on mass customization in this study. By constructing the master model of constant velocity universal joint components, modular development of products of the same family with similar functional structures was carried out, and the configuration design and variant design of universal joint components are completed. Use CATIA to design a digital platform for automotive constant velocity joint that quickly responds to customer needs, and perform fatigue life experiments on the designed constant velocity joint. The results show that the digital platform of constant velocity universal joint can more efficiently mass-produce customized products.

The experience of TCP tells us that protocol expansion through patching will cause protocol stack to become complex and fragile. In this poster, we introduced the idea of improving QUIC innovation, scalability and compatibility by standardizing QUIC components, which is called OpenQUIC. OpenQUIC encapsulates multiple functions related to a certain function into one module, and divides all modules into core modules and pluggable modules. The total size of the core modules is only 62KB. Through the combination of different modules, OpenQUIC can software-define transmission like building blocks, with stronger scalability and adaptability.

FOS: A modular FPGA Operating System for Dynamic Workloads

With FPGAs now being deployed in the cloud and at the edge, there is a need for scalable design methods that can incorporate the heterogeneity present in the hardware and software components of FPGA systems. Moreover, these FPGA systems need to be maintainable and adaptable to changing workloads while improving accessibility for the application developers. However, current FPGA systems fail to achieve modularity and support for multi-tenancy due to dependencies between system components and the lack of standardised abstraction layers. To solve this, we introduce a modular FPGA operating system - FOS, which adopts a modular FPGA development flow to allow each system component to be changed and be agnostic to the heterogeneity of EDA tool versions, hardware and software layers. Further, to dynamically maximise the utilisation transparently from the users, FOS employs resource-elastic scheduling to arbitrate the FPGA resources in both time and spatial domain for any type of accelerators. Our evaluation on different FPGA boards shows that FOS can provide performance improvements in both single-tenant and multi-tenant environments while substantially reducing the development time and, at the same time, improving flexibility.

Since the early 1990s, the driver in our economy has been changing from production of material goods to product-service offers based on knowledge and information. More and more researchers, institutes, and programs paid attention to product service systems (PSS) in the last decade because PSS integrates tangible artifact and intangible service to achieve sustainable, improve enterprise competitiveness, and meet customer needs better. In order to respond to the industrial trend towards PSS and guide enterprises to develop PSS, this article aims to propose a framework of modular development for PSS. After a brief review on PSS development, six dimensions of modular product-service were introduced which are the basis of modular development. The process of modular development was proposed which are divided into three parts by order: functional, product, and service modularizations. Functional modularization realizes the planning of product-service family and the design of interface dimension and collaboration dimension. Product modularization realizes the product dimension and production dimension. Service modularization realizes the service dimension and process dimension. Finally, a case study on PSS development was proposed according to the method of modular development.

The increasing complexity of product and radical changing environment lead companies towards innovation network (IN) collaboration. Although recent researches highlight the importance and benefits of innovation network (IN) to new product development (NPD), this subject is still developing and it has the potential to expand into new dimensions. However, there is a significant lack in the literature regarding holistic, systematic and integrated framework when it comes to manipulating the challenge of true NPD projects. The current researches mainly focus on the strategy level which provides less application guidance for NPD. Thus, in this work, the authors propose an integrative framework of innovation network for NPD based on the literature review. In addition, a case study of new refrigerator development reveals the feasibility and potentials of the overall framework to its broad usage in industry.

Many different recommender system (RS) frameworks have been developed by the research community. Most of these RS frameworks are designed only for research purposes and offline evaluation of different algorithms. A reuse of such frameworks in a productive environment is only possible with high effort. In this paper, we present a concept of a generic reusable RESTful recommender web service framework, designed to perform directly offline and online analysis for research and to use the recommender algorithms in production.

Wireless sensor networks are envisioned to be deployed in the absence of permanent network infrastructure and in environments with limited or no human accessibility. Hence, such deployments demand mechanisms to remotely (i. e., over the air) reconfigure and update the software on the nodes. In this paper we introduce DyTOS, a TinyOS based remote reprogramming approach that enables the dynamic exchange of software components and thus incrementally update the operating system and its applications. The core idea is to preserve the modularity of TinyOS, i. e., its componentisation, which is lost during the normal compilation process, and enable runtime composition of TinyOS components on the sensor node. The proposed solution integrates seamlessly into the system architecture of TinyOS: It does not require any changes to the programming model of TinyOS and all existing components can be reused transparently. Our evaluation shows that DyTOS incurs a low performance overhead while keeping a smaller - up to one third - memory footprint than other comparable solutions.

Plant intentionality and the phenomenological framework of plant intelligence

This article aims to bridge phenomenology and the study of plant intelligence with the view to enriching both disciplines. Besides considering the world from the perspective of sessile organisms, it would be necessary, in keeping with the phenomenological framework, to rethink (1) the meaning of being-sessile and being-in-a-place;(2) the concepts of sentience and attention;(3) how aboveground and underground environments appear to plants;(4) the significance of modular development for our understanding of intelligence;and (5) the concept of communication within and between plants and plant tissues. What emerges from these discussions is the image of a mind embodied in plant life.
