In this paper, the aim is to non-asymptotically and robustly estimate the state for fractional-order descriptor linear systems in a noisy environment. First, the considered fractional-order descriptor systems are transformed into the fractional-order Brunovsky's observable canonical forms. Second, the considered observable canonical forms are transformed by taking a fractional derivative operator. Third, based on the new forms, algebraic formulas are obtained for the state variables by applying the modulating functions method without knowing the initial condition of systems, despite the corrupting noises are presented in the output measurement. Finally, numerical simulations are given to illustrate the efficiency and robustness of the proposed estimator by comparing with the fractional-order Luenberger-like observer.

The paper presents the comparison of two different continuous-time adaptive control strategies applied to the temperature stabilization of molten glass during conditioning. Both control methods include on -line linear continuous-time model parameter identification using a nonstandard procedure based on the modulating functions method. The related control task is of great practical importance because it directly affects the quality of manufactured glass containers. The molten glass temperature must be stabilized with accuracy of about 1C(degrees) which can be very difficult. At the core of this work, the synthesis of a nonstandard adaptive control procedure is described that consists of a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) being fed with process parameters and state estimates. These new state estimates are generated with a special transform and reconstructed by a special type of modulating function state observer consisting of two modulating function based soft-sensors which rely on a continuous-time model. However, an equally important issue of this investigation is the efficiency and accuracy of the algorithm. To this end, the described stabilization method will be compared with a standard continuous-time model predictive control (MPC) approach that was used in the authors' previous research on the continuous molten glass temperature stabilization in a single glass forehearth zone. Simulation results based on experimental calibration data are presented and compared for these two approaches. It turns out that the first method with LQR is simpler than the MPC approach while maintaining the same level of accuracy and quality of control.

This paper aims to design a non-asymptotic and robust state estimator applicable both for Caputo fractional linear and nonlinear systems with noisy outputs. For this purpose, a fractional observable canonical form is considered to show the idea of the proposed method. First, the considered form is transformed by taking a fractional derivative operator. Second, based on the new form, the modulating functions method with the additive index law of fractional derivatives is used to get exact formulas for the sought variables in continuous noise-free case, which only contain the integrals involving the output and the fractional derivative of the input, without producing any source of errors. Moreover, the integral forms can reduce noisy effect as low-pass filters. Hence, fast convergent and robust estimation can be obtained using discrete noisy outputs. After constructing the required modulating functions, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed estimator by comparing with the fractional order Luenberger-like observer.

Online continuous-time adaptive predictive control of the technological glass conditioning process

Glass production has a great industrial importance and is associated with many technological challenges. Control related problems concern especially the last part of the process, so called glass conditioning. Molten glass is gradually cooled down in a long ceramic channels called forehearths during glass conditioning. The glass temperature in each zone of the forehearth should be precisely adjusted according to the assumed profile. Due to cross-couplings and unmeasured disturbances, traditional control systems based on PID controllers, often do not ensure sufficient control quality. This problem is the main motivation for the research presented in the paper. A Model Predictive Control algorithm is proposed for the analysed process. It is assumed the dynamic model for each zone of the forehearth is identified on-line with the modulating functions method. These continuous-time linear models are subsequently used for two purposes: for the predictive controller tuning, measurable disturbances compensation and for a static set point optimisation. Proposed approach was tested using Partial Differential Equation model to simulate two adjacent zones of the forehearth. The experimental results proved that it can be successfully applied for the aforementioned model.

Algebraic estimation for fractional integrals of noisy acceleration based on the behaviour of fractional derivatives at zero

In this paper, non-asymptotic and robust estimation for fractional integrals of noisy acceleration is considered for a class of fractional linear systems based on the study of the behaviour of fractional derivatives at zero. Particularly, the position and velocity can be estimated from the noisy acceleration via the designed estimators. Such estimates can be of value for health monitoring, reliability assessment, and vibration control of mechanical systems. Based on the existing numerical approaches addressing the proper fractional integrals, our attention is primarily restricted to estimating the unknown initial values. For completing the estimation, two methods based on classical modulating functions and generalized modulating functions are proposed, respectively. Via the results on fractional derivatives at zero, the initial values of the considered systems are discussed, and the corresponding estimator simplifications are performed. In addition, constructions of the required modulating functions are discussed. Finally, some numerical simulations are provided, which demonstrate the validity of the theoretical results and the efficiency of the proposed estimators.(c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This paper aims to deal with the non-asymptotic and robust estimation problem for nonlinear fractional-order systems. The motivation starts with a physical system which develops into a group of system models including linear and nonlinear, commensurate and noncommensurate, integer-order and noninteger-order ones. Different from the existing modulating functions method, the proposed method breaks through the limitation of transforming the original system into the input-output differential equation, which makes the estimation for more types of systems possible. By introducing a new class of fractional order modulating functions, the state is exactly expressed by algebraic integral formulas without knowing the initial conditions of the studied system, despite the corrupting noises in the output measurement. Finally, it is illustrated in the simulation examples that the proposed estimator not only proves to be effective in the state estimation of noninteger-order systems, but also shows its advantages in that of integer-order systems compared to the high-gain observer.
