Network coded retransmission without soft combining (NC ARQ) has been studied for multicast or for multiple unicast. Some papers also mentioned that the soft combining with NC information will be the proper way to improve the receiving performance. However, some papers didn't mention the detailed combining procedure, and most papers on soft combining used extrinsic information for iterative decoding. This paper presents two kinds of NC ARQ, and designs three kinds of chase combining schemes on the network coded packets in very detail for LTE-A eMBMS system. This paper will show soft combining with the soft information on all the code bits is more efficient than just using the extrinsic information. Deducing from the basic MAP principle, the NC HARQ schemes designed in this paper are universal for all the modulation types with certain constellation and for all the Soft-In-Soft-Out channel codes. With proper redundancy factor, NC ARQ saves about 25% of retransmission compared with normal HARQ, while NC HARQ saves further, up to 50%.

Recently, substantial attention has been paid to compress the channel quality information feedback while preserving most of its relevant information, as required for Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). This paper compares the performance of some lossy feedback compression methods and, particularly, investigate the effect of bit allocation on their performance. Simulation results show that the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) approach, along with our proposed bit allocation method, leads to the best feedback compression performance.

This paper reports the performance of a family of nine accumulate-repeat-4-jagged-accumulate (AR4JA) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes [4] when used in conjunction with binary phase-shift-keying (BPSK), quadrature PSK (QPSK), 8-PSK, 16-ary amplitude PSK (16-APSK), and 32-APSK. We also report the performance under various mappings of bits to modulation symbols, hard decision decoding, log-likelihood ratio (LLR) approximations, and decoder iterations. One of the simple and well-performing LLR approximations can be expressed in a general equation that applies to all of the modulation types.

A low complexity distributed coding scheme is proposed for communications over Rayleigh fading channels. Convolutional coding (CC) assisted Differential Phase-Shift Keying (DPSK) modulation is employed at the source node for conveying the source signals to two relay nodes as well as to the destination node during the first transmission period. Iterative detection exchanging extrinsic information between the DPSK demapper and CC decoder is carried out at each relay node in order to recover the source signals. Then, the CC-encoded bits are re-encoded by the two relays to generate Differential Space-Time Block coding (DSTBC) symbols for transmission to the destination node during the second transmission period. At the destination node, iterative decoding exchanging extrinsic information is invoked between the DPSK demapper and the concatenated CC-DSTBC decoder, where the later is viewed as a single amalgamated decoder. The relay and destination nodes do not have to estimate the channel's fading coefficients due to the employment of DPSK and DSTBC schemes. Our design requires only two decoding iterations between the DPSK and CC decoders at each relay in order to further reduce the complexity of the relay nodes. Our distributed coding scheme assisted by two low-complexity relay nodes outperforms the non-cooperative benchmarker scheme by about 8 dBs, when aiming for a bit error ratio of 10 -5 .

Adaptive communication is an important topic to enhance the capabilities of future communication systems. Especially in combination with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (ODFM) bit and power loading schemes have been devised to enhance the transmit rate of communication systems. The consideration of channel coding in the optimization is an obvious requirement. In the past, though, mainly uncoded systems have been investigated allowing for further enhancements. In this paper we propose a new scheme to adapt code rate and modulation by solving the convex optimization problem based on a bisection approach in order to maximize the achievable data rate at a fixed target error rate.

In this paper, different correlation techniques (narrow correlator, double delta correlator and subcarrier processing) that can be applied to the new Galileo alternate binary offset carrier AltBOC(15,10) modulation are discussed with respect to their functionality, implementation, and multipath mitigation performance. Moreover, effects of the receiver parameters (precorrelation bandwidth, spacing between correlators) on the ranging errors are also presented. The performance of the multipath mitigation concepts is illustrated in 2D and 3D multipath error envelopes assuming multipath scenarios with one and two multipath components and constant signal attenuation factors. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the performance of the AltBOC modulation and the effect of multipath on code and carrier measurements for different multipath environments, and thus help the receiver designers to select the best correlation technique for their particular applications.

Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) wireless communication systems commonly employ beamforming techniques with Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). In such systems, if no channel encoding is employed, the full diversity order provided by the channel is achieved when a single symbol is transmitted over multiple channels; however, this property is lost whenever multiple symbols are simultaneously transmitted. The full diversity order can be restored when channel coding is added to such a system. For example, when Bit-Interleaved Coded modulation (BICM) is combined with this technique, the full diversity order of NM in an M × N MIMO channel, transmitting S parallel streams is possible; provided SR c ¿ 1 where R C is the BICM convolutional code rate. In this paper, we present multiple beamforming with constellation precoding which can achieve the full diversity order with both uncoded and BICM-coded SVD systems. An analytical proof of this property is provided. In addition, to reduce the computational complexity of Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding, we introduce a Sphere Decoding (SD) technique. This technique achieves several orders of magnitude reduction in computational complexity not only with respect to conventional ML decoding, but also, with respect to conventional SD.

This paper presents the analysis and implementation of a new communication system, which uses the DC link cable as a communication channel to reduce electrical interfaces and save cables. The channel characteristics are investigated to determine the carrier frequency and the bandwidth. To deal with the disturbance and signal fading, coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) is used as means of modulation/demodulation. A field test system is established. The test results show that it achieves a high performance with regard to the industrial standards.
