Dual-hop transmission is a technique by which the channel from the source to the destination is split into two possibly shorter links using other nodes. The source transmits signals to the destination via a group of nodes that act as relays. It is an effective technique when the direct link between the source and the destination is in deep fading, severe shadowing, or non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment. In this network, the reliability of the communications is improved whereas the throughput might go down since the transmission is performed by two times. In this paper, we propose a scheme that uses hierarchical modulation at the source and selective modulation based on cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code at the relays. Simulation results show that our scheme outperforms conventional schemes in terms of the bit error rate (BER) and throughput performances.

We investigate the challenging problem of enabling multicast video service in emerging cognitive radio (CR) networks. We propose a cross-layer optimization approach to multicast video in CR networks. Specifically, we model CR video multicast as an optimization problem, while considering important design factors including scalable video coding, video rate control, spectrum sensing, dynamic spectrum access, modulation, scheduling, retransmission, and primary user protection. The objective is to optimize the overall received video quality as well as achieving proportional fairness among multicast users, while keeping the interference to primary users below a prescribed threshold. Although the problem can be solved using advanced optimization techniques, we propose a sequential fixing algorithm and a greedy algorithm with low complexity and proven optimality gap. Our simulations using MPEG-4 fine grained scalability (FGS) demonstrate the efficacy and superior performance of the proposed approach as compared with an alternative equal allocation scheme.

In this paper, according to the basic theory of digital modulator, the design model of digital modulator is built by using the improved Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) technology through running the Matlab/DSP Builder environment. Firstly,analyse the function of each module in this model and simulate the grade of algorithms to it and also produce VHDL language, then carry on Register Transport Level (RTL) grade simulation to the model in Modelsim. In the end, it also introduces the way to realize digital modulator in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip, which verify the correctness and validity of the model. This design can not only produce many kinds of the digital signal modulation, but can also simplify the hardware circuit of the modern system greatly and save plenty of the system resources and improve the reliability and flexibility, what is more, compared with other designs, the performance price ratio of the design has advantage in modulated signal device and possess certain practicability and usefulness.

The tremendous growth in the global navigation satellite system paved the way for modernization of GPS and other GNSS systems. A major milestone in the modernization initiative is the inclusion of new civilian signals. These new signals encompass key innovations such as data less channel, improved navigation data message format, secondary spreading code structure and new modulation schemes. In this paper we concentrate on selection and analysis of the secondary spreading codes for use in Indian regional navigation satellite system (IRNSS).

Signal space diversity (SSD) has been lately adopted into the second generation of the terrestrial digital video broadcasting standard DVB-T2. While spectrally efficient, SSD improves the performance of QAM constellations over fading channels thanks to an increased diversity. In this paper, flexible mapper and demapper architectures for DVB-T2 standard are detailed. A detection based on the decomposition of the constellation into two-dimensional sub-regions in signal space associated to an algorithmic simplification constitute the main novelty of this work. They enable to strongly decrease the complexity of the demapper. The design and the FPGA prototyping of the resultant architecture are then described. Low architecture complexity and measured performance demonstrate the efficiency of the detection method.

Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), which is a technology used when channel condition changes, is adapted in mobile Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX). Scalable video coding (SVC) is a video coding scheme used for different users with bandwidth level. SVC encodes a video into a number of layers. Users receive different number of encoded layers based on their channel condition. In this paper, both AMC and SVC are employed to enhance the user perceived video quality in the system. Intermediate Control Server (ICS) is proposed to deal with the signaling between multimedia server and BS.

In this paper, we present optimal network coding which can maximize achievable rate region in two-way relaying discrete channels, where there are two communicating nodes and one relaying node. We focus on a low-complexity relaying protocol termed the detect-and-forward (DtF) scheme, in which the relaying node does not require channel decoding but detection. We first analyze the achievable rate region of any digital network coding function including non-linear types. We then search for the optimal network code in favor of maximizing two kinds of performance measures: the sum rate and the product rate. For high SNR regimes, linear network codes like the exclusive-or (XOR) function can offer the maximum-achievable rate region. Whereas, for low SNR regimes, it is verified that non-linear network codes like the negate-or (NOR) function can outperform linear codes due to the effect of error occurrence at the intermediate relaying node.

Quantization index modulation (QIM) is a commonly used data hiding technique where a single bit is embedded per coefficient. Here, we propose the use of double embedding in the QIM framework where a single coefficient is modified twice, using two quantizers, to embed two bits. The motivation behind substituting single embedding with double embedding in the QIM framework for a certain steganographic scheme is to increase its hiding rate without significantly increasing the embedding distortion and the stego scheme's detectability against steganalysis. We empirically determine the best way to couple the double embedding framework with a repeat accumulate code based error correction scheme. For moderate noise levels, the use of double embedding is seen to be significantly advantageous over single embedding.

Space-time coded modulation has been shown to efficiently use transmit diversity to increase spectral efficiency. Such high-rate orthogonal designs are available for complex symbol constellations only for two, three, and four transmit antennas. For five and six transmit antennas, two generalized complex orthogonal space-time block codes of rates 7/11 and 3/5 were proposed recently. In this correspondence, the complex orthogonal design for eight transmit antennas is presented. This code achieves the theoretically maximal rates and improved decoding complexity compared to known codes. Simulation results are provided to corroborate the analytical studies.

With the development of new satellite navigation system, the existing navigation signals haven't meet the demand of modernization. The new modulation methods appear gradually, for example the BOC modulation, the AltBOC modulation and TDDM spreading frequency spectrum methods, so based on the theory researching, their characteristic were researched and analysised.
