This paper present a transceiver for NFC (Near Field Communication) using an inductive powered receiver to enable all type of NFC communication modes such as the passive, active, RW, and RFID modes. Notably, when the external battery has been fully discharged, the RFID mode can be operated through the inductive powered structure. We have analyzed the capacity of the inductive powered receiver of the NFC transceiver to achieve power from an RF Signal for an RFID mode. To understand the range of power available, we have simulated the harvesting of power from a loop antenna at 13.56 MHz. The bandwidth of the receiver is designed to range from 106 kbps to 424 kbps even to a 867 kHz subcarrier of 13.56 MHz RFID tag.

This paper presents a new approach to the soft detection of spatial data streams in MIMO channels in slow fading channels. We focus on high spectral efficiency bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) MIMO OFDM system where, after serial to parallel conversion and per antenna coding, spatial data streams are simultaneously transmitted by using an antenna array. We propose a detection algorithm basing on the combination of linear and non linear detection techniques. The proposed algorithm orders the spatial streams as per V-BLAST ordering and then uses linear detectors as MMSE or zero forcing (ZF) to detect the streams which have seen good channel realizations and therefore enjoy higher signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs). These streams after being detected are subsequently stripped off leading to the max log MAP detection of the streams which have seen comparatively poor realizations of the channel and consequently have lower SNRs. Unlike maximum likelihood (ML) detection, whose complexity is huge due to the need for enumerating all possible combinations of the transmitted constellation points, the proposed method has low complexity. The algorithm has a fully parallel structure, suitable for the implementation in parallel hardware. Numerical examples illustrate its performance on slow fading 3 times 3 and 4 times 4 complex MIMO channels.

In this paper a study on different Radio Resource Management (RRM) methods employed in a multi-carrier cellular system is presented. This work focuses on the rate-adaptive resource allocation (sub-carriers and power), as well as the utility-based packet scheduling algorithms. The objective of the paper is to study the trade-off between system spectral efficiency and fairness among the users when the considered algorithms are used.

Channel condition is considered an important issue that affects the performance in wireless networks. Link Adaptation techniques have been proposed to improve the degraded network performance by adjusting the design parameters, e.g. the modulation and coding schemes, in order to adopt the dynamically changing channel conditions. Furthermore, due to the advancement of the IEEE 802.11n standard, the network goodput can be enhanced with the exploitation of its frame aggregation schemes. However, none of the existing link adaption algorithm is designed to consider the feasible aggregated frame length that should be adapted according to the changing environments. In this paper, A frame-aggregated link adaptation (FALA) algorithm is proposed to dynamically adjust system parameters in order to improve the network goodput under varying channel conditions. For the purpose of maximizing the network goodput, both the optimal frame payload size and the modulation and coding schemes are jointly acquired according to the signal-to-noise ratio under specific channel condition. Numerical results illustrate that the proposed FALA protocol can effectively increase the goodput performance comparing with other existing link adaptation schemes, especially under dynamically changing environments.

MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) is a service offered by 3GPP cellular networks for the distribution of multimedia content and can be transmitted by multiple base stations in a coordinated way such that signals from several base stations are perceived as one single signal at the user terminal. This requires synchronization of the radio interface on all layers so that all participating base stations have to apply the same transmission rules to the packets they obtain from the core network. These rules must be robust in the sense that synchronization is maintained even if some packets are not received by a base station. In this paper we propose a corresponding method that is capable of reliably accommodating the loss of an arbitrary number of consecutive packets even if statistical multiplexing is applied.

Aiming at reducing the system complexity, raising communication rate and supporting CDMA based applications, a direct sequence spread spectrum based underwater acoustic communication system is proposed. BPSK/QPSK modulation is used. A RA coding scheme is adopted to reduce the BER. To reduce the phase-acquisition complexity of receiver, a carrier modulation method which lets spread-spectrum code and carrier have the same phase is adopted in transmitter. To raise the communication rate, an architecture of de-spreading before demodulation is used in receiver. To support CDMA based applications, a band-pass signal acquisition strategy is used in receiver, and the acquisition method is delay correlation acquisition algorithm. Matlab-based simulations and practical system based experiments are carried out. The results show that the system has a good performance at supporting multi-user communication and rejecting multi-path effects. Under a water tank environment, the BER of the system without interference of other users is at 10 -4 order of magnitude, and the BER of the system with interference of two users is at 10 -3 order of magnitude.

The performance of RF class-D amplification with Neoteric modulator and bandpass sigma-delta (ΣΔ) modulator are studied and compared. The modulators encode the source signal into a binary level pulse train, and broaden the application of class-D amplifiers to include signals with time-varying envelopes. Their performance are directly linked to the power efficiency and linearity of the overall amplifier. The modulators are evaluated in terms of two important parameters, coding efficiency and average transition frequency. Tested at 800MHz with a 5MHz W-CDMA signal having a 10.6dB peak-to-average ratio and a class-D amplifier constructed using GaAs FET devices, it is found that the amplifier achieves a power efficiency of 21% with Neoteric modulator, compared to an efficiency of 11% with bandpass ΣΔ modulator, while with comparable level spectral growth of around −45dBc. The better power efficiency obtained with Neoteric modulator is due to its higher coding efficiency of 11.4% versus 5.8% for the bandpass ΣΔ modulator.

In the decoding process of LDPC codes, variable node messages often fluctuate continuously and thereby become the hindrance to the successful decoding. This paper proposes an adaptive erasure belief propagation (AE-BP) decoding algorithm to reduce the influence of these unreliable messages. The idea behind AE-BP is recording the continuous fluctuant times of variable nodes by introducing a sequence of counters, and then adaptively erasing the messages according to their fluctuant times so that other messages would recover to more precise states. Semi-Gaussian approximation demonstrates adaptive erasure is a good candidate towards offsetting the defect of unreliable messages. Experimental simulations show that, for LDPC codes AE-BP outperforms most decoding algorithms in the literature.

Recently, it has been established that the best space- time trellis codes (STTCs) belong to a specific class of codes. The codes of this class are called "balanced STTCs" because they use the points of the MIMO constellation with the same probability. Therefore, the search of the best codes can be reduced to this class. This paper presents a new and general method to design 2 n -PSK balanced STTCs for any number of transmit antennas. This method is simpler than the first method, which was described only for 4-PSK modulation and can be generalized for any configuration of the space-time trellis encoder. Simulation results of new 4-PSK and 8-PSK balanced codes prove the importance of this class.

In this paper, we utilize a new study method that is under independent case of multiple optical orthogonal codes to derive the probability function of MOOCS-OPS networks, discuss the performance characteristics for a variety of parameters, and compare some characteristics of the system employed by single optical orthogonal code or multiple optical orthogonal codes sequences-based optical labels. The performance of the system is also calculated, and our results verify that the method is effective. Additionally it is found that performance of MOOCS-OPS networks would, negatively, be worsened, compared with single optical orthogonal code-based optical label for optical packet switching (SOOC-OPS); however, MOOCS-OPS networks can greatly enlarge the scalability of optical packet switching networks.
