Multiple antenna systems are promising approaches to increase the data rate of wireless communication systems. There, modulated symbols are multiplexed on multiple transmission antennas. Typically an outer error correcting code is used additionally to ensure a desired quality of service for a given data rate. An appropriate communications performance can be achieved by iterative decoding, where probabilistic information are exchanged between outer decoder and the MIMO demodulator. However, in this case the MIMO demodulator has to calculate probabilistic soft-output values for each bit which can be very complex. In this paper we present a new class of linear block codes named low-density MIMO codes which reduces the complexity of the MIMO soft-demodulator and the outer channel decoder inherently by code design without decreasing the data rate of the overall system. These LDMC codes can have a better communications performance then state of the art solutions with a order of magnitude smaller decoding complexity.

The purpose of this work is to describe and demonstrate a new concept of a hybrid communication system, which consists of applying electrical CDMA to each data channel, on a system using optical WDM. Each user has a unique orthogonal CDMA code and modulates an electrical carrier (e.g. QPSK) prior to the data is used to directly modulate an optical carrier, using a laser. Therefore, it is possible to add several independent data channels in a physical link (optical fiber), over the same or different optical carriers, and recover the information associated to each of the channels. With this approach we can avoid the use of optical filters to separate the data channels at reception, making the system more flexible and robust.

We propose a pragmatic labeling design based on the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart for bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding on multiple-input-multiple-output channels. In our design, the EXIT chart is used to determine a candidate set of labelings which have representative demapper transfer curves. Then, a procedure to generate these labelings is provided based on the genetic algorithm. Given fixed channel code and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), we can search within this candidate set for a most-suitable labeling to minimize the bit-error-rate (BER) with low complexity. Simulation results show that the labeling chosen from the candidate set exhibits a controllable BER performance gap compared to the optimal labeling found through exhaustive search. Besides, even though the channel code or the SNR is changed, the same candidate set can still be directly adopted to reduce the time on re-searching a new labeling.

It is well known that accurate synchronization is more critical in multicarrier systems than in single carrier systems. Here we provide new analytical and computer simulation results for performance of MT-DS-SS signaling in the presence of imperfect carrier synchronization, modeled as frequency offset with Gaussian statistics. We investigate performance as a function of frequency offset standard deviation, the number of subcarriers and per-subcarrier processing gain. Random spreading codes are used, and we assume coherent BPSK modulation. Comparisons between simulations and analysis show excellent agreement, and also show the expected increased sensitivity of MT-DS-SS to frequency offset, compared with single-carrier DS-SS.

Non-binary LDPC codes are promising error correcting codes for short and moderate block lengths. These codes demonstrate interesting performances in high order fields, though are more complex to decode. As for binary LDPC codes, decoding scheduling can be optimized to improve performance. In this paper, a simulation-based approach is used for different scheduling policies in the non-binary case in order to point out possible performance gains for these codes. An optimization of decoding scheduling is also proposed and exhibits about 20% complexity reduction in error-floor region, thus promising interesting gains if combined with advanced dynamic scheduling strategies.

A novel carrier frequency offset tracking scheme for multilevel quadrature amplitude modulation-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MQAM-OFDM) systems is proposed using a designed conjugate code composed of MQAM mapping values and their complex conjugates which can also reduce peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). The peak power is reduced by phase cancellation in the conjugate pairs avoiding accumulation of too much same phase subcarriers. A likelihood function is deduced from the conjugate code to estimate the phase offset caused by carrier frequency offset (CFO). A novel multicarrier phase locked loop (MPLL) is described tracking the frequency offset in time and frequency domain. The algorithm performance was investigated in a designed system showing that the proposed scheme can reduce the PAPR of the system effectively and track the frequency offset in high precision.

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is currently in use as 3.5G operating at various transmission rates with a peak rate of 14.4MMBit/s. Turbo code with higher order modulation is used in channel coding and modulation. In this paper the extrinsic information transfer chart (EXIT chart) analysis has been applied as a tool to evaluate the performance of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) with turbo encoding. It has been shown that the UMTS turbo code is not fully utilizing the capacity of the channel as the throughput is less than the attainable capacity of the channel. The performance evaluation is based on analysis for QPSK modulation and code rate 1/2 and 1/3 respectively.

A new form of signals will be adopted by GALILEO in its signals of E1 *** is the important technology to produce the new signals. Firstly the definition of MBOC and the performance of its spectrum is introduced in this paper , then on the basis of exposition of the fundamental principle to the technology of MBOC, basing on the technology of Matlab/Simulink , a way to set up simulation model of MBOC in the environment of Matlab is presented, the feasibility is inspected and verified in terms of theory, specific meaning of guidance will be given by this technology. The effectiveness of MBOC has been shown in the results of actual running.

A multi-relay network is considered in which communication from source to relays takes place over a (discrete or Gaussian) broadcast channel, while the relays are connected to the receiver via orthogonal finite-capacity links. Unknown to the source and relays, link failures may take place between any subset of relays and destination in a non-ergodic fashion. Upper and lower bounds are derived on average achievable rates with respect to the prior distribution of the link failures, assuming the relays to be oblivious to the source codebook. The lower bounds are obtained via strategies that combine the broadcast coding approach, previously investigated for quasi-static fading channels, and various robust distributed compression techniques.

Relay selection is crucial in improving the performance of wireless cooperative networks. Most of previous works for relay selection use the current observed channel conditions to make the relay selection decision for the subsequent frame. However, this assumption is often not realistic given the time-varying nature of some mobile environments. In this paper, we consider finite state Markov channels in the relay selection problem. Moreover, we also incorporate adaptive modulation and coding, as well as residual relay energy in the relay selection process. The objectives of the proposed scheme are not only to increase spectral efficiency, mitigate error propagation, but also to maximize the network lifetime. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
