In this paper, a modification to the weighted bit- flipping (WBF) decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes is proposed. This modification, based on the adjustment in reliabilities of the check sums during iterative decoding, can be applied to various WBF algorithms. Our studies show that the modification can be achieved with a small increase in complexity, but leads to an appealing improvement in error performance.

A low power, wideband wireless transmitter utilizing programmable gain for IQ modulation to improve transmitted power efficiency is presented. The transmitter architecture replaces high dynamic range analog circuits with high speed digital circuits to perform SDR of Two-Way Radio that requires controllable modulation power. The digital section of modulator is software programmable based to support multiple bandwidths, frequency channels, low power gain reduction and modulation schemes. This quadrature modulator was designed in 0.18 mum SiGe-BiCMOS process to demonstrate the performance of controllable output power for wideband SDR for rigorous dynamic range and linearity. The triple well option is used for better noise isolation and power consumption. The designed quadrature modulator consumes 54 mW that covers all power gain reduction selections from 0 dB to -30 dB and occupies a die area of 1.12 mm 2 .

This paper presents a normalized demapping method with application to the Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) system. Normalized Logarithm Likelihood Ratio (NLLR) soft information is computed using this new method in which a normalization factor is proposed. Two ways of determining this factor are illustrated and simulation results show that it performs well with comparison to other factors under 16QAM constellation in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and fading channels respectively.

One of the key features of High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). Link Adaptation at Node-B is done on the basis of Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) reports sent by the User Equipment (UE). However there is a delay of about 10 ms between computation of a CQI report at UE and the corresponding Transport Format and Resource Indicator (TFRI) selection at the Node-B. This delay significantly degrades the performance of link adaptation process. In order to compensate for this loss of performance, we propose predictive CQI reporting by the UE. A simple linear predictor based on NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) adaptation is shown through simulations to provide substantial gain in HSDPA link throughput. Results show that predictive CQI reporting provides larger gain in channel environments with medium to high Doppler and lack of multipath diversity.

This paper considers the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) capacity enhancement considering the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, in the downlink, including the effects of system bandwidth and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) efficiency. Firstly, the system bandwidth efficiency is calculated for LTE framework. Then, the SNR efficiency using Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) is approximated using curve fitting. The used fitting function is an attenuated and truncated form of the Shannon bound in order to approximate the LTE composite spectral efficiency for the modulation and coding Set (MCS). Finally, the total capacity expected results are calculated for different multi-antenna configurations, revealing large capacity gains when compared with Single Input Single Output (SISO).

In order to design a simple and highly accurate channel estimator for wireless personal area network systems, this paper proposes Golay sequence aided channel estimation. To evaluate the performance of proposed channel estimation, bit error rate performance of single-carrier transmission with frequency-domain equalization has been analyzed by computer simulation. When 8PSK modulation and Reed-Solomon coding RS(255, 239) as forward error correction are used, the proposed Golay sequence aided channel estimation works very well in millimeter-wave and non line-of-sight fading environments with a 1.8 dB degradation of E b /N 0 at 10 -6 of bit error rate against the ideal channel estimation, which is practically acceptable. Moreover, comparing with Chu sequence aided channel estimation, the proposed Golay sequence aided channel estimation improves 0.4 dB of E b /N 0 at the bit error rate while achieving much less hardware than Chu sequence aided one, which is very important for mobile terminal applications.

Nowadays, there are lots of research efforts focusing on cross-layer designs combining adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) with an automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocol. One of the main drawbacks of these research works is that they rely on first-order amplitude-based finite-state Markov chains (AFSMC) to model the wireless fading channel. Furthermore, most of the analytical models used in these works present several deficiencies that could compromise the design of cross-layer protocols. To overcome the aforementioned problems, in this paper we propose a novel cross-layer analytical framework that is based on both the use of a first-order two-dimensional Markov model and a judicious implementation of the AMC threshold searching algorithm used in the transmission mode (TM) selection. This threshold search is designed independently from the channel model and is able to discriminate between useful and useless TMs. To exploit the joint impact on QoS performance measures of both AMC and ARQ we present a formulation of an AMC/ARQ cross-layer design as a constrained optimization problem.

We propose an enhanced MCS for demodulation-and-forward scheme in transparent RS. The demodulation-and-forward scheme only demodulates and modulates the received signal to relay in symbol-by-symbol manner. In this scheme, RS can relay the received signal within one frame period. However, RS could suffer from frame delay when it adopts decode and forward scheme. In addition, we think that MR-BS is required to have enhanced MCS for demodulation-and-forward scheme instead of the MCS in existing specifications of 802.16e. With making use of coding rate 2/3 and 5/6 for both QPSK and 16-QAM, which is absent between BS and MS link, the link quality between BS and RS can be enhanced by using lower modulation orders. And also, we want to suggest another encoding slot concatenation and its concatenation rule and parameters and its simulations results will show merits of enhanced MCS than existing MCS performances.

Throughput vs. distance analysis and coverage requirements are critical issues in planning wireless network deployments. With the recent availability of IEEE 802.16e and its promise of larger coverage areas for high-speed data communication, evaluating it in a real-world environment is very important to us in our ongoing study of standards based wireless technologies for the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). In this paper, we present results obtained with our IEEE 802.16e module for NS-2, particularly throughput vs. distance performance, and its consideration for designing a real-world multi-hop IEEE 802.16e testbed. Firstly, a quantitative analysis of throughput vs. distance performance is conducted via extensive simulation, and the optimal modulation and coding scheme as well as channel bandwidth profiles are identified for specific distances. Secondly, we present a real-world multi-hop IEEE 802.16e testbed design intended for installation along BNSF Railway track in Nebraska. We apply our findings towards selecting various base station deployment locations and their appropriate communications parameters in order achieve best possible multi-hop throughput performance. We also provide a client access coverage analysis for the various locations.

Ultra-Wideband Technology (UWB) is increasingly being considered as an attractive solution for high data rate short- range wireless and position location applications. In this paper, we are investigating the role of directional antenna, which shows significant improvement in the range extension while sustaining high throughput. The experiment carried out is for two different path loss models (LOS and NLOS), which are show in the following sections. Research is needed for performance improvements using better modulation schemes, channel coding, antenna types, and/or Rake receivers. In this paper the M-array PPM modulation technique, Horn antennas have been used and simulation results are given in Figure 1-Figure 5.
