A prioritised adaptive CDMA scheme in which processing gain is given priority over modulation and coding schemes (MCS) in wireless systems is presented. The need for such design is necessary for increased bit rate. A scheme that has the capability to optimise both throughput and quality of service without sacrificing the required bit rate is designed. This is applied to direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) wireless networks for efficient broadband systems. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive CDMA scheme provides throughput improvement of the application and overall system performance using priority-based optimisation.

We investigate moment balancing templates for spectral shaping codes, e.g., dc-free codes, high-order spectral-null codes and spectral nulls code. A new approach by adding k grouped bits at determinate indices of the code word is found to balance the moment of the code word. Moment balanced code words preserve the spectral-null properties and can guarantee to correct one insertion or deletion error. The redundancy, which is a constant factor greater than that of the universal template for uncoded sequence, can be kept small. The new approach also involves the application of the optimized moment balancing template and the non-binary enumeration of balancing moment values.

LPI Radars use continuous wave, wide bandwidth low power signals of the order of a few watts making its detection difficult. The important advantage of LPI radar is to go undetected, while maintaining a strong battlefield awareness. Common spectral analysis and conventional methods fail to detect emissions of LPI radars and even normal radars in noisy environments. This leads to use higher order spectral analysis (HOSA) techniques enabling us to extract much more information from the same intercept and hence facilitating detection. This paper reports the results of HOSA techniques (bi-spectrum, bi-coherence and tri-spectrum) and artificial neural networks (ANNs), applied to LPI radar signals. Bi-phase barker coded signals of different lengths, P1, P2, P3 and P4 Polyphase coded signals and Frank signal are analyzed using HOSA techniques to produce 2-D signatures of these signals. An artificial neural network (ANN) is trained on these signatures so that it will be able to detect and identify the LPI radar signal whose type is unknown when received. The results obtained clearly indicate the promising capability of these techniques to identify the type of LPI signal even with SNRs as low as -3 dB.

The system of cdma2000 1x EV-DO is introduced to provide fast and efficient broadband wireless access. Up to now, there are three versions, mentioned as reversion 0, A and B. A great number of techniques, such as hybrid-ARQ, adaptive modulation and coding, as well as multi-user diversity, support the system to have higher spectral efficiency and better performance. In this paper, technical background and some salient features of EV-DO are summarized. In order to evaluate the DO network performance, the system level simulation is considered based on appropriate assumptions and parameters. Four hot advanced techniques, the distributed token bucket rate control mechanism, reverse link interference cancellation, forward link equalizer and multi-carrier, are deployed and judged in the existing EV-DO system. From simulation analysis and discussions, dual receive antennas, equalizer and interference cancellation may improve the average sector throughput in forward and reverse link respectively. Furthermore, multi-carrier technique could obviously enhance the overall system performance.

In this paper, an M-ary code selected direct sequence bipolar pulse amplitude modulation (MCSDS-BPAM) ultra wideband system is introduced and the code selection criteria of this system is investigated. The particular DS code sequence used in MCSDS-MPAM scheme is selected by the log 2 M/2 bits from the DS code set, which offers the system higher data rate without increasing the system bandwidth or changing the pulse shape compared to other M-ary modulation schemes. The system performance can be varied by the selection of DS code set from the common DS code set without any extra expense. The criteria based on four parameters used to evaluate the system performance under different code sets are given over an ideal AWGN channel and correlation receivers.

This review article explores the notion of radio flexibility, its various versions (as presented in a brief taxonomy) and its efficient instantiations under various metrics, primary among which is the broad applicability of a parametrically compact, single model or design over a large set of modes and scenarios. The focus is on the algorithmic part of the base-band. It is argued that this systematic approach to the subject yields benefits both in understanding past results as well as charting new research frontiers.

This paper proposes data rate adaptation based on code division multiplexing (CDM). Under investigation are OFDM systems with cyclic delay diversity (CDD) and with spatial phase coding (SPC). These schemes are promising candidates for future broadband wireless systems. As lower bound, maximum ratio transmission (MRT) is chosen as reference. Imperfections due to channel estimation are taken into account in the investigations. The comparison of adaptive CDM versus adaptive coding shows that adaptive CDM outperforms adaptive coding, especially when spatial transmit diversity schemes are applied. This result is of interest for the design of future broadband adaptive transmission systems like IMT-Advanced.

Under limited channel capacity condition, this study investigates a combined source and channel coding algorithm providing a uniform video transmission rate to achieve better system performance in wireless MIMO systems. In the proposed algorithm, we applied MPEG2 video source coding scheme with convolutional channel coding as well as space-time block coding techniques, associated with BPSK/QPSK modulation method, to improve video transmission performance. The proposed algorithm assigned rates to MPEG2 source code and convolutional channel code, combined with space-time block coding schemes based upon the feedback information from performance control unit (PCU) under channel capacity limitation, which ensures the given system can achieve better performance compared to a conventional system.

A generic cooperative MIMO BICM system is described. Achievable rates are computed based on the extended equivalent binary input channel model of the original BICM system. Full decode and forward is assumed at the relay node. Two types of two-phased transmission/reception protocols are employed to establish orthogonal transmission/reception of the relay node. The achievable rate results are provided for different combinations of modulation orders and the number of antennas used at the source and relay nodes. Quantitative results provided in this paper could serve as a guide on when to engage cooperative transmission and how to choose proper constellations and puncturing ratios for the practical BICM coded systems. Comparison of the considered BICM system with other possible cooperative coded systems is also crucial that this paper due to lack of space for exposition misses to address.

A switched-capacitor analog correlator using balanced charge pump circuit, capable of pumping same amount of charge in positive and negative direction is proposed for code division multiple access (CDMA) bus interface. In addition, the amount of charge injection is independent of the output voltage. The proposed charge pump circuit is applied to the analog correlator in the receiver module of CDMA wired bus interface. The bus architecture features low bus power consumption, noise tolerance and dynamical programmability. The new circuit operates at 100 MHz. Simulation results of the CDMA bus interface by using 3.3 V supply voltage for the proposed analog correlator, verified that the charge pump circuit fulfils its design requirements.
