In this paper, a new full-rate space-time block code (STBC) possessing a quasi-orthogonal (QO) property is proposed for QAM and 8 transmit antennas. This code is designed by serially concatenating a real constellation-rotating precoder with the Alamouti scheme. The QO property enables a maximum likelihood (ML) decoding to only require joint detection of four groups of real symbols at a receiver. Hence, this code has an identical and greatly reduced ML decoding complexity with the conventional minimum decoding complexity QO-STBC (MDC- QO-STBC) and the Xian's QO-STBC, respectively. Especially, the proposed QO-STBC is guaranteed to enjoy full diversity for general QAM unlike the existing MDC-QO-STBC presented for only QPSK. By simulation results, we show that the proposed code exhibits the identical and slightly degrade error performance with the existing MDC-QO-STBC for 4-QAM and the Xian's QO-STBC for 4 and 16-QAM, respectively.

An adaptive coded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with outdated channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter is proposed and investigated. By incorporating the rate-compatible punctured codes (RCPCs) and bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) into the adaptive MIMO system, the proposed adaptive RCPC-BICM MIMO system is shown to achieve both a near-full multiplexing gain and a robust BER against the CSI feedback delay. A comparison among various adaptive MIMO systems shows that the proposed system provides a good trade-off between the spectral efficiency, BER and system complexity.

Co-ordinate interleaving (also known as signal space diversity (SSO)) with the rotation of signal constellation of multilevel modulation schemes with bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) is known to provide good performance for single carrier systems. This paper studies the extension of SSD with recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) coded BICM and constellation rotation in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Iterative demodulation and decoding (ID) is employed at the receiver. It is shown that for a signal constellation and labeling using SSD on a frequency-selective fading channel, a well considered choice of the rotation angle leads to a significant gain over the conventional BICM-ID OFDM system. Furthermore, the choice of the rotation angle for the system is found to be dependent upon the symbol labeling and the number of iterations performed between the demodulator and the decoder.

This paper presents a novel composite parallel combinatory spread spectrum (CPC/SS) communication system. CPC/SS system can be designed to have more higher data transmission capability than spread spectrum (SS) communication system, even several times on Gaussian channels compared to ordinary parallel combinatory spread spectrum (PC/SS) system. In the proposed system, modulation of position code and state are applied to each simultaneously transmitting PN sequences. The symbol error rate and average bit error rate are analyzed to evaluate the performance of the proposed systems. Furthermore, CPC/SS system has excellent secret property than PC/SS and CDMA communication systems.

In this paper, we develop and study combined multi- rate and packet forwarding and routing operations in the context of multi-hop ad hoc wireless networks. Nodes are assumed to employ a software controlled radio that is programmed to use several modulation/coding schemes (MCSs) that operate at different data rates. The underlying MAC scheme is assumed to be based on a random access (pure ALOHA type) protocol. We propose a distributed QoS-aware cross-layer joint routing and rate control algorithm. It is used by nodal stations to jointly select, for each packet that traverses multi-hop routes across the network, the transmit data rate and the neighboring node to which the packet should be routed towards its destination. Each station monitors certain station and network activity states, and uses these data to adapt the selection of its parameter vectors. The mechanism strives to ensure that flow throughput and end- to-end packet delay target levels are met. Once satisfied, the algorithm selects parameters that serve to enhance the transport throughput level, thus occupying limited overall network wide resources. Simulation results demonstrate the significant performance enhancements that are achieved under the use of the proposed scheme. Our analytical models and mechanisms provide important guidelines for the design of such joint channel rate, MAC and routing based operations algorithms.

In this paper we establish end-to-end achievable sum-rates of different linear and non-linear pre-processing techniques employing Amplitude-Shift Keying (ASK)-modulation in a flat-fading Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) broadcast system with single antenna terminals. The obtained results reveal that the Minimum Mean Square Error Vector Precoding (MMSE-VP) technique achieve close to capacity performance in various system settings. Thus it achieves a loss of merely 2-3 dB compared to the sum-capacity in the mid to high SNR range including the effects of practical system implementations, such as a non-ideal modulation set and a sub-optimal solver at the transmitter. When the SNR is low or when the system experience a small load, simpler pure linear techniques achieve similar performance.

An optimized Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) iterative receiver for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission, suitable for application in rapidly varying multipath channels is presented. The receiver is an optimized Maximum Aposteriori (MAP) Turbo processor that exploits information from all available transmissions. The system uses an imbedded pilot structure in the frequency domain to initially estimate the channel. Further improvement of these estimates takes place based on the Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm and the available received vectors, including all antennas and transmissions of the OFDM word. We show that this configuration achieves high gains compared to a standard ARQ system with packet combining and a standard soft decision decoding of a higher constraint length, v = 7 convolutional code when binary modulation is employed on the link, while the gains diminish for non-binary modulations.

A special kind of symbol-wise puncturing is applied to the code symbols of a constituent trellis coded modulation (TCM) within two very bandwidth-efficient concatenated coding schemes namely staggered TCM and parallel concatenated TCM. There exist methods to determine the minimum squared Euclidean distance of TCM for this special puncturing but they are only applicable to a limited number of TCM encoders with certain restrictions in code design. In this work, we present a general approach to calculate the distance spectrum of arbitrary TCM with symbol-wise puncturing. Thus, a deeper analysis of the error correcting capability of the underlying code is possible.

This paper presents a single chip class D amplifier with two selectable gains 6dB & 9dB, 1.4 W output power and 86% efficiency with an 8 ohm load. This chip uses a frequencies trim-able ramp generator. Input Clock Frequency Range with 250kHz - 550kHz and 8 bits trim, 4 bits (LSB) to trim the ramp amplitude to vdd/5 peak-to-peak, 4 bits (MSB) to adjust the ramp continuity, the trimming procedures consists on putting a zero input signal, and adjust the trim code such as to get a 50% duty cycle Pulse Wide modulation output signal, Reduction of intermodulation in case of mixing of Audio and Voice. It operates with a 2.5 V to 5.5V supply voltage, 0.35 um, double-poly, triple-metal BiCMOS process. It has an area of 1.5 × 1.2 mm{sup}2 and it achieves a THD as low as 0.04%, with a flatband response between 20 Hz and 20 kHz.

The runlength-limited Levenshtein code property of a dc 2 -balanced code allows the code words to be protected from multiple types of errors, including insertion, deletion and substitution errors. In this paper, a post-modulation scheme, in conjunction with the interleaving techniques, can correct burst substitution errors and random insertion or deletion errors, by using the dc 2 -balanced codes.
