In this paper, we present a practical adaptive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission approach for broadband wireless multiuser systems. The proposed scheme adaptively switches between open-loop and closed-loop MIMO modes, depending on the users' channel conditions and required rates, as a means to enhance the system throughput and performance. Each mode is a combination of a MIMO transmission technique (space-time block coding and/or spatial multiplexing or beamforming) and a modulation/coding scheme. We first evaluate the spectral efficiency of each mode and provide a simple way to select adaptively the best mode among the open-loop and closed-loop available transmission modes in a Rayleigh/composite fading environment. Based on these results, we propose a simple and practical switching criterion that is shown to yield significant spectral efficiency improvements over independent adaptive open-loop or closed-loop schemes for typical multiuser system scenarios. Simulations in an IEEE 802.16e framework illustrate significant improvements in throughput performance.

A new Multi-Pulse Position modulation (MPPM) system was established. It improves the effect which rain, fog and snow caused to atmosphere laser communication system. Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder/decoder and maximum-likelihood detection were used in the new system. Bit error rate were analyzed when system use RS codes. The simulation results show that bit error rate of RS codes system decreases obviously when SNR is relatively larger. Moreover, it is found that bit error rate of RS codes system is larger than no use RS codes system. And bit error rate was increased with parameter n of RS codes when SNR is relatively small.

Owing to the huge bandwidth requirement, the DRAM power composes a significant portion of the power consumed by video coding system. In this paper, a lossless frame recompression scheme for reducing DRAM bandwidth is presented. The basic structure of the scheme which includes the memory organization, the data fetching strategy as well as the cache organization is proposed. Furthermore, an adaptive DPCM (Differential Pulse Code modulation) scanning order selection is used and an efficient coding method that is suitable for compressing the DPCM samples in reference frames is also discussed. Experimental results show a 50%~60% saving of bandwidth on 720p and 1080p sequences, which indicates that the proposed scheme can be useful in reducing the system power through saving DRAM bandwidth.

When channel state information (CSI) is not available, in a continuous fading channel, combined differential unitary space-time modulation and parallel turbo code can greatly improve the system performance, however it also meet with the error floor phenomenon. We propose a scheme of utilizing differential unitary space-time symbol-based serial turbo code for multiple-antenna wireless communication systems over continuous fading channels which can avoid the error floor. We also give the MAP decoding algorithm and its simplified versions for both the systematic symbol and the parity symbols. With iterative decoding and/or multi-antennas, it can further improve the system performance, which helps to give an acceptable bit error rate.

An algorithm is simulated and researched for direct acquiring PRN code based on the technology of band pass signal sub-sampling, utilizing the auto-correlation characteristic of the long period PRN code in BOC modulation. The algorithm is simulated and its performance is analyzed with decreasing Signal-to-Noise. The validity of the algorithm with the lower SNR is proved by simulation under band pass sub-sampling. The number of computing data is much less, because of the lower sampling frequency.

A new underwater acoustic (UWA) communication system is proposed based on fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) for complex condition of underwater environment. Because of using chirp-basis function in FRFT, this communication mode uses linear frequency modulation (LFM) as carrier signal of transmitted information, which has good anti-jamming capability. The code elements were divided into groups in time-domain and the transmitted information was decoded by using pulse position modulation (PPM) in fractional domain in this scheme. The method of inserting guard interval (GI) in transmitted signal and the Rake receiver was presented to suppress the UWA channel's multi-path effect which could lead to intersymbol interference (ISI). The information rate is up to 800 bit/s and the feasibility and the robustness of this system were validated through the experimental results, which is helpful for UWA communication of Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) in complex working environment.

The present paper develops an innovative method in the frequency domain for code delay false lock detection and resolution, applicable to GNSS receivers compatible with subcarrier navigation modulations. This novel technique is based on the cross-spectrum estimation between the cross-correlation of received and locally generated spreading codes, and its well-know theoretical non-shifted autocorrelation. The code delay bias is then obtained back in the time domain, and subtracted in closed loop from the output of the numerically controlled oscillator that generates the delayed code replicas in a classical early-prompt-late GNSS receiver architecture. Parametrical optimization pending, this novel technique already shows an entire reduction of systematic errors on the estimated code delay in AWGN channels for BOCcos(10, 5) on Galileo E6a and BOCcos(15, 2.5) on Galileo E1a, with virtually no additional performance degradation in terms of code delay jitter.

Wavelet modulation (WM) has been investigated in the past as multi-rate transmission technique on channels unknown in time or bandwidth. Such a channel conditions are common in Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) networks where secondary users aim to opportunistically transmit alongside primaries. In this paper, WM is opportunely designed to exploit channel opportunities avoiding interferences with the primary users of the spectrum. Unequal power allocation is performed according to both channel availability and data sensitivity to channel errors: zero power (i.e., carrier suppression) is assigned to potentially harmful wavelets whereas the power budget is distributed on safe wavelets in order to optimize the minimum square error between transmitted and received data. As to optimization Genetic Algorithms (GA) are used due to their capacity to solve complex problems with reduced convergence time and predefined accuracy when tailored to specific cases.
