In order to make sure that the Wireless Sensor Networks can transmit signals efficiently and reliably in uneven, heterogeneous and limited space, the V-MIMO-OFDM mode is used underground coal mines. It allows the nodes equipped with single antenna to process information and transmit collaboratively, so multi-path fading can be resisted efficiently. The energy consumption of SISO, V-MIMO and V-MIMO-OFDM system is studied in this paper. It can be seen from the energy consumption curve that the V-MIMO system can reduce the energy consumption. In a short communication distance, the energy consumption of the V-MIMO system is more than the SISO. But over a certain distance, it is quite the opposite. The V-MIMO-OFDM system further shortens the communication distance. Therefore, the adoption of V-MIMO-OFDM system underground coal mines can greatly reduce the bit error rate and energy consumption. energy consumption.

In this paper, we consider a broadcast transmission from a source to multiple destinations with an OFDM-based system. In order to improve the broadcast services of a cellular system, we consider the use of relays with Dynamic Decode and Forward protocols allowing the source to ignore the existence of relays in the system. A new algorithm executed at the relay is proposed. It allows for maximizing the diversity order at the destinations side by selecting the best relaying protocol and modulation size as function of the relay correct decoding time. No feedback is assumed on any link between the source, relays and destinations.

In this paper, we consider the half-duplex relay channel. We seek to design multiple turbo codes to minimize the information outage in the block fading channel. An analysis on the diversity order of the relay channel, which depends on the time sharing variable and the rate of the code, is given for practical modulations. We also give a code structure for the multiple turbo codes to achieve the full diversity when it is achievable. The codes are optimized using the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart analysis, based on the convergence thresholds of the iterative decoding tailored for relay channel. Numerical examples shows that with our design technique, the achieved frame error rate is within 0.7dB of the information outage. To reduce complexity, a suboptimum code search approach is proposed, resulting codes which perform 1dB away from the information outage.

We study the rate adaptation of a combined system with Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and Hybrid ARQ (HARQ) in the presence of Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) errors. An average BLock Error Rate (BLER) is imposed to maintain a target error rate. We formulate a generic average throughput expression that accommodates the possible CQI errors. The generic expression is adapted to different forms according to practical scenarios. According to our results, CQI errors can significantly degrade the average throughput of a pure AMC system, especially for the CQI errors generated by user mobility. Surprisingly, we found that it is harder to recover the loss by using HARQ when the CQI errors are caused by channel estimation errors. For the CQI errors generated by user mobility, most of the loss is recovered with simply one retransmission.

Envelope elimination and restoration (EER) power amplifier architecture can achieve high efficiency and linearity. However, when used with modern modulation schemes such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA), it suffers from expanded bandwidth problem. This paper shows that, the straightforward bandwidth limitation results in poor efficiency of the power amplifier (PA). We propose a new repetitive bandwidth limitation technique which reduces bandwidth expansion of both the envelope and phase polar drive signals without compromising the efficiency of the PA. It has been found that the improvement in bandwidth of drive signals is proportional to the number of repetition. The bandwidth limitation often results in spectral splatter and error vector magnitude (EVM). To counter this, we employ a QAM correction technique which reduces the in band distortion.

The IEEE 802.16 standard defines MAC and Physical layers for broadband wireless networks called WiMAX, however, it does not define the scheduling algorithm for the uplink and downlink traffic. In this paper, a predictive scheduling algorithm for uplink traffic in IEEE 802.16 networks is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses the cross-layer approach and is applied on the queue of the bandwidth requests messages in the BS. For each bandwidth request, the proposed algorithm calculates a deadline in accordance with the modulation and coding Schemes (MCS). Thus, the proposed algorithm reduces the average delay on the access network and uses the resource, in the environment with several burst profiles, in a fair and efficient way. Its evaluation by means of modeling and simulation showed satisfactory results.

Trellis Coded Spatial modulation (TCSM) is a novel transmission technology for Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems, which has been recently proposed to improve the performance of Spatial modulation (SM) over correlated fading channels. The fundamental principle of TCSM is to use convolutional encoding and Maximum-Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE) decoding to increase the free distance between sequences of spatial constellation points, thus improving, especially over spatially correlated fading channels, the end-to-end system performance. In this paper, we propose tight analytical bounds for performance analysis of TCSM over correlated fading channels. In particular, the contributions of this paper are as follows: i) we propose two asymptotically tight (for high Signal-to-Noise-Ratios, SNRs) upper bounds for the analysis of uncoded SM schemes, which offer a better accuracy than already existing frameworks, ii) we propose a simple Chernoff bound for performance analysis of TCSM, which, although weak, can well capture the diversity order of the system, and iii) we propose an asymptotically tight (for high SNRs) true union bound for the accurate performance prediction of TCSM over correlated fading channels. Analytical frameworks and findings will also be substantiated via Monte Carlo simulations.

Bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) because of its improved diversity over fast fading channels is an attractive transmission scheme for future wireless systems. For coded BICM systems, receivers need to employ max log MAP demodulators (demappers) that calculate soft-decision metrics i.e. log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) for the decoder. The complexity of the calculation of these LLRs is exponential in the number of bits per symbol and moreover for systems exploiting spatial dimension (MIMO), the complexity further increases exponentially in the number of transmit antennas. In this paper we propose matched filter (MF) based low complexity max log MAP bit metrics for BICM single input single output (SISO) and low dimensional BICM MIMO systems using Gray encoded M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) alphabets. For SISO systems, the maximum likelihood (ML) detector needs computation and comparison of minimum distances between the received symbol and M constellation points on the complex plane for the calculation of each LLR. In this paper we show that these LLRs can be computed precisely from the MF output and therefore do not necessitate any minimum distance calculations. For low dimensional BICM MIMO systems, we further propose a MF based bit metric which successfully trims down one complex dimension of the system thereby reducing complexity. Both these metrics substantially reduce the number of calculations needed for each LLR without compromising the performance and MF being an integral part of all receiver structures facilitates their hardware implementation. Simulation results over Rayleigh fading channels verify similar performance of the simplified metrics as those of the original metrics but with a significant reduction in the complexity.

A new McEliece-like symmetric-key scheme is proposed in this paper. modulation is applied as a step of encryption to provide two functions: modulation and scrambling. The mapping process of modulation is controlled by error vectors, which is different from we are familiar with. Analysis shows that the new scheme can keep an acceptable security level and achieve a smaller key size in comparison with the previous McEliece-like symmetric-key schemes. Moreover, there is no trade-off between error correcting performance and the security level.

We present a novel partial decoding method at the relay, called pairwise check decoding (PCD), for two-way relay fading channels. The proposed PCD method forms a so-called check-relationship table for the superimposed Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC)-coded packet pair during the multiple access phase. Meanwhile, it incorporates adaptive network coding by using closest-neighbor clustering mapping (CNCM) to compensate the phase deviation of the fading channels. The proposed PCD method is a practical and efficient realization of the promising denoise-and-forward relay strategy with advanced channel coding and non-linear network coding. Simulation results show that under the same LDPC-coded two-way relay system, our proposed PCD considerably outperforms the case where the relay performs only adaptive network coding without channel decoding. It also performs better than the case where the relay adopts the belief propagation decoding along with conventional XOR-based network coding under certain regions.
