A wireless resource scheduling problem is formulated in the context of IPTV multicasting streaming services over WiMAX channels. The goal is to maximize quality of services, in terms of number of subscribers served, number of IPTV channels carried, and video qualities of individual channels; subject to constraints of finite amount of multicast channel capacities as well as time and spatially varying wireless channel qualities. While a globally optimal solution is NP-hard, we present an efficient heuristic algorithm that exploits the structure of the problem formulation to yield solutions that are very close to the optimal solution.

In GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) mobile satellite system, subscribers could not be paged when the MES (Mobile Earth Station) is normally out of coverage area due to additional propagation path losses. In this paper, an orthogonal coded modulation scheme based on BPSK (Binary Phase Shift keying) is proposed for the GEO mobile satellite system for the sake of establishing the call. Compared with the common paging channel modulation method QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) and BPSK, the code words are mutual orthogonal, which is convenient for demodulation. And to be emphasized, the simulation results show that this scheme can increase the SNR (Signal Noise Ratio) of actual transmitted information, which is greatly more than the SNR of data in the common paging channel. It allows subscribers to be paged even when the MES is normally out of coverage area due to additional propagation path losses, and to move on an advantageous position.

A multiple component carrier (CC) solution has been agreed as the underlying structure of the Long Term Evolution - Advanced (LTE-A) systems, which are currently being standardized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In this deployment, the bundling of modulation and coding Scheme (MCS) and Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) parameters across multiple CCs is foreseen to maintain the feedback signaling comparable with the one of the previous LTE Release 8. This paper focuses on the transmission over multiple CCs in LTE-A Uplink. Issues related to the bundling of the link level parameters is discussed and a simple Codeword (CW) mixing strategy is proposed to boost the spectral efficiency performance while keeping low feedback overhead. Results show that, combined HARQ/MCS bundling can achieve the same performance of HARQ only bundling when used together with our proposed CW mixing strategy, with the advantage of a lower feedback overhead. CW mixing also leads to similar spectral efficiency when the bundling is performed over 2 and 3 CCs. The use of a turbo Successive Interference Cancellation (turbo SIC) receiver further improves the spectral efficiency, especially when antenna gain imbalance (AGI) occurs.

In this paper, we propose Patched Distributed Space-Time Block Codes (DSTBC) for the Dynamic Decode and Forward (DDF) Relaying protocol, in which the relay transmits combination of information from the first and second phase of the DDF protocol, and the destination makes a linear combination of symbols received in the two phases. Thus, from the error correcting code point of view, the number of coded bits seeing a diversity-one channel reduces proportionally as the number of symbols sent by the relay increases, which is not the case with known schemes. In other words, the length of the phase two of the DDF protocol needed to achieve full diversity can be reduced with respect to known schemes. Three examples of Patched DSTBC are presented, the Patched Alamouti, the Patched Golden Code and the Patched Silver Code whose outage analyses prove the diversity enhancement offered by the proposed scheme.

In this paper, we proposed a neural network (NN) framework as a machine learning technique for link adaptation based on adaptive modulation and coding in 802.11n MIMO-OFDM wireless system to predict the best modulation and coding scheme (MCS) index under packet error rate (PER) constraints. Our approach is compared with the k-nearest neighbour (k-NN) algorithm in frequency selective wireless channels. Simulation results validate the implementation of proposed neural network framework in frequency selective channels, and show that the neural network technique outperforms k-NN algorithm especially in terms of PER when low MCS index selection which provide higher communication reliability is exploited.

Scalable video coding (SVC) and Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) are two key techniques for video multicast in broadband wireless networks. They can improve the system performance by enhancing the wireless resource allocation schemes and assigning appropriate modulation and coding schemes (MCS) to different layers of scalable video sequences. We formulate the problem as maximizing the total system utility subject to the total resource constraint, where the utility of each user is a generic non-negative, non-decreasing function of received rate. We then propose a fast intra-session MCS assignment algorithm based on dynamic programming. This algorithm can be integrated with an existing inter-session resource allocation algorithm and applied to multi-session scenarios. Simulation results show that our algorithm achieves significant improvement on the video quality over a naive algorithm and an adapted greedy algorithm, and greatly reduces the running time in both single-session and multi-session scenarios compared to a former optimal algorithm.

DRM technology has been widely used in modern Digital AM Broadcasting. The design of DRM base band encoder and modulator based on embedded system is presented in order to realize less cost, smaller power loss and more portability for the DRM transmission system. The function of software modules are described in details combined with DRM standard, and relevant solutions are also presented for reference. Finally, the application of this base band encoder and modulator is analyzed.

When channel state information is not available, combined unitary space-time modulation and parallel concatenated convolutional code can greatly improve the system performance, however it also meet with the error floor phenomenon. We propose a scheme of utilizing unitary space-time symbol based serial concatenated convolutional code for multiple-antenna wireless communication systems over rapid fading channels which can avoid the error floor. We also give the MAP decoding algorithm for both the systematic symbol and the parity symbols. With iterative decoding and/or multi-antennas, it can further improve the system performance, which helps to give an acceptable bit error rate.

Acquisition is one of the essential stages in the DSSS signal processing. The conventional acquisition methods may degrade when there is a code phase offset which in the worst case may be a quarter of one chip in this stage. A new acquisition method by using weighting adjustment is proposed to solve this problem. In this paper, we take GPS C/A code as an example to introduce this method. The performance of this method is tested and compared with one conventional method. The simulation results show that the new method has an advantage when there is a large code phase offset.

We develop a scheme to improve data throughput for multiuser cooperative relay communications operating in half-duplex mode. Cooperative relay, while effective in mitigating fading effects, might reduce the overall throughput of the network since it requires additionally resources for relay. In order to overcome this limitation, we develop a multiuser cooperative communication scheme that employs hierarchical modulation. This scheme exploits the different fading conditions for each user and allows the system to transmit two independent data streams simultaneously. Since the bit-error rate of the proposed system is a function of the distance parameters of hierarchical modulation, transmission reliability can be controlled flexibly by varying the distance parameter. We derive the error-rate expressions of the proposed scheme and compare its symbol-error rate performance for specific distance parameters with that of conventional relay schemes.
