In this paper, we present a new solution to the well-known integer bit loading problem for Power Line Communication systems, that is able to jointly consider transmission rate and bit error rate (BER) as performance parameters. This goal is achieved by means of a Trellis Coded modulation (TCM), by taking advantage of its appealing property to combine modulation and coding, so as to state the power allocation problem as an optimization in which both BER and rate are tied to the TCM optimal design. The need to compare such a scheme with others known in the Literature in terms of performances, led us to give a brief insight into the two standard approaches: Maximum Rate (MR) and Minimum BER (MB), which consider as objective functions only rate or BER, respectively. Numerical results are presented to stress how our solution improve system performances, both in ideal condition and with additional impairments such as crosstalk and impulsive noise.

We demonstrate for the first time improved program, erase, and endurance for charge trap flash TaN-Al 2 O 3 -Si 3 N 4 -ldquoTunnel-oxide (TO)rdquo-Si MOSFETs through band engineered tunnel oxides (BETO). Several high-K dielectrics (HfO 2 , HfSiO, Al 2 O 3 , Si 3 N 4 ) and tunnel stack sequences (SiO 2 -high-k, SiO 2 -high-k-SiO 2 ) are compared. New results are as follows: SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 (OA) BE-TO and SiO 2 /Si 3 N 4 /SiO 2 (ONO) BE-TO DeltaVth windows improve >300% vs. standard SiO 2 -TO. Both OA and ONO stacks endure P/E cycles to at least 100 K cycles maintaining a window >4V. Results are consistent with a model based on high-k conduction/valence band offsets. Increased erase efficiency for BE-TO enables improved endurance without sacrificing P/E window due to lower P/E voltage stressing. These large, enduring windows are favorable for multi-level cell application and may extend TANOS flash beyond the 20 nm node.

Space-time modulation exploiting diversity or/and coding gains has been a major focus in high-speed wireless communications systems against channel fading. We employ noncoherent space-time modulation in cyclic-prefix (CP) based single-carrier (SC) block systems over frequency selective Rayleigh block fading channels, where channel order, upper-bounded by the CP length, is assumed known. Capitalizing on multi-channel input-output relation for time-domain processing, we reveal that employing complex orthogonal m-sequences can enable a simplified maximum-likelihood (ML) detector. Further, code construction is addressed so as to adaptation of a variety of transmission rates and trellis-coded unitary space-time modulation is also investigated. Numerical results suggest that this noncoherent space-time modulation for SC block system, coupled with time-domain ML detection, can realize multipath diversity under certain circumstances.

In order to improve the control performance of some electro-hydraulic digital control system and simplify the system a kind of combination digital valve was designed in the paper. Based on pulse code modulation principle, the combination digital valve which is made of many on-off valves has a lot of advantage such as being simple in structure, good in anti-pollution and cheap, so it is suitable for application in electro-hydraulic servo control system control by the computer of some large-scale mining machinery equipment like the long-distance belt conveyer.

Symbol mapping is very crucial for the performance of bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding (BICM-ED). In this paper, an analysis method of the performances of symbol mappings is proposed. This method is via analysis based on harmonic mean of the minimum Euclidean distance and distance spectrum of Euclidean distances for mappings. Harmonic mean centered on the average of Euclidean, while distance spectrum presents the matter of distribution of Euclidean distances in detail. The performance over fading channels depends on the average (harmonic mean) of the minimum Euclidean distance, which could be reduced by using feedback. Distance spectrum of Euclidean distances illustrates that the key role in improvement is derived from the decreasing of weight at the minimum Euclidean distance. Through analysis and comparisons with several different symbol mappings in terms of both harmonic mean of the minimum Euclidean distance and distance spectrum of Euclidean distances, simulation results in Rayleigh fading channels show that the two agents determine the asymptotic gain after feedback and BER performance at high E b / N o range.

The IEEE 802.16e standard provides five different scheduling services to meet the QoS requirement of multimedia applications and this paper investigates one specific scheduling service, i.e. rtPS scheduling. In order to relieve the serious MAC overhead problem in WiMAX system, an efficient scheduling algorithm for the rtPS services has been proposed in this paper. Also the algorithm has been implemented and evaluated in the WiMAX simulation platform developed based on NS-2. From the simulation results, we can see not only the QoS requirement is ensured, but the system performance is also optimized with reduced MAC overhead using the proposed scheduling algorithm.

Group layered multi-antenna architectures (GLAs) employing orthogonal space-time block codes and spatial multiplexing techniques may simultaneously exploit diversity and multiplexing gains with simple decoding algorithms based on successive interference cancellation (SIC). In this paper we first describe a decoding method of a SIC receiver based on QR decomposition in a GLA using LDPC codes, and then find a combination of code rate and modulation order which optimizes the asymptotic performance of the GLA. Simulation results show that the performance of the GLA using code rates and modulation orders found by our method is better by 2 dB than that of a GLA using the same code rate and modulation order in all layers. Our optimization method can be applied to adaptive modulation and coding schemes for GLAs.

Upcoming multi antenna systems such as 3GPP-LTE employ code book based multi-mode preceding in order to adapt to a wide range of channel conditions. Link adaptation, which includes the selection of preceding matrices, the number of spatially multiplexed layers as well as modulation coding schemes is a crucial task, carried out by the receiver. In this contribution we propose link adaption based on the measure of mutual information between the channel input and the linear detector output and evaluate the behavior of the proposed algorithm in spatially correlated and uncorrelated propagation scenarios. The results highlight the importance of proper link adaption in order to mitigate the impact of spatial correlation.

We present an adaptive soft-input soft-output (SISO) turbo equalization receiver for doubly-selective channels. The proposed receiver exploits the complex exponential basis expansion model (CE-BEM) for the overall channel variations, and an autoregressive (AR) model for the BEM coefficients. We extend an existing turbo equalization approach based on symbol-wise AR modeling of channels to channels based on BEMs. Simulation examples and an EXIT chart analysis demonstrate that our CE-BEM-based approach outperforms the existing symbol-wise AR model-based turbo equalizer.
