We present in this work the analysis, investigation and experimental measurements for a high data rate (HDR), modulator design for biodevice telemetry over wireless inductive coupling. That has been achieving by programming a code description and implementation on an FPGA/CLPD. A new VHDL designed n-PSK modulator programmed with VHDL code generates digital BPSK, QPSK and 8PSK signals. However, comparing to the conventional analogue modulators, this type of modulator offers the flexibility to reconfigure and upgrade. The system has been designed to operate from inductively coupled RF power. Furthermore, we propose a modified a hybrid class E/F power amplifier system design, working at low radio frequency; in this work it is 135 KHz for modulated RF power with ASK modulator. The minimum magnetic field and powering range of the reader is considered in detail. The prototype system has been solved and performance simulated by using Matlab/ Simulink and was evaluated by lab measurement.

Relay selection is crucial in improving the performance of wireless cooperative networks. Most of previous works for relay selection use the current observed channel conditions to make the relay selection decision for the subsequent frame. However, this assumption is often not realistic given the time-varying nature of some mobile environments. In this paper, we consider finite state Markov channels in the relay selection problem. Moreover, we also incorporate adaptive modulation and coding, as well as residual relay energy in the relay selection process. The objectives of the proposed scheme are not only to increase spectral efficiency, mitigate error propagation, but also to maximize the network lifetime. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Based on the decomposed model of continuous phase modulation (CPM), CPM is divided into a continuous phase encoder (CPE) and a memoryless modulator (MM). Using the memorial and recursive character of CPE, combined with turbo code and random interleaver, the model of Turbo-CPM system is founded. In order to solve the problem of positive feedback during iteration with short frame, a method based on weighed extrinsic information exchange is proposed. Theoretic analysis and simulation results show that the proposed method can not only prevent the phenomena of positive feedback from taking place, reduce the error floor and improve the performance of BER under the condition of low SNR, but also reduce the average number of iteration and enhance the real-time. Furthermore, the method can avoid the conversion from probability to likelihood ratio and its inversion in the process of transferring extrinsic information, and reduce the complexity of decoding algorithm.

A multi-relay network is considered in which communication from source to relays takes place over a (discrete or Gaussian) broadcast channel, while the relays are connected to the receiver via orthogonal finite-capacity links. Unknown to the source and relays, link failures may take place between any subset of relays and destination in a non-ergodic fashion. Upper and lower bounds are derived on average achievable rates with respect to the prior distribution of the link failures, assuming the relays to be oblivious to the source codebook. The lower bounds are obtained via strategies that combine the broadcast coding approach, previously investigated for quasi-static fading channels, and various robust distributed compression techniques.

In IEEE 802.16j standard, relays are added to increase coverage and improve throughput. However, some overhead results from the inclusion of the relays. One typical example is an addition of R-MAP (relay MAP) to be included in the header of the frames transmitted from BS (base station) to RS (relay stations) in non-transparent mode [1]. The R-MAP conveys transmission schedules for the burst data from BS to an RS. Since R-MAP is mostly modulated by the lower MCS (modulation and coding Scheme) level (QPSK 1/2 for example), the bandwidth consumption is considerable. Compared with higher MCS level (64QAM 3/4 for example) used by data bursts, it uses 5 times the bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a scheme to compress the R-MAP and show its efficiency through simulation. We also show how to reduce the CID (connection identifiers) information in MAC headers to further reduce the overhead from relaying. Compression of R-MAP will greatly reduce the overhead from relaying. In other words, we reduce the overhead from relaying in control plane (R-MAP) as well as in data plane (MAC header). As confirmed by the performance evaluation, MAC efficiency of the proposed schemes is higher than that of the Standard schemes by approximately 11%.

The residual energy in multi-code CDMA systems is not used to transmit any useful information and may increase up to the incremental energy multiplied with the number of multi-code channels. A two-group resource allocation scheme is developed to reduce this upper bound on the residual energy down to as low as a single-channel incremental energy, resulting higher energy utilization to improve the sum capacity. Since the incremental energy is the additional energy required to increase a data rate to a higher data rate by an additional amount called bit granularity, a new design of modulation and coding scheme based on the rate multiplication of outer and inner codes can be developed to produce different data rates such that the bit granularity is reduced, hence decreasing the incremental energy to further maximize the sum capacity. The two-group resource allocation scheme implemented with the proposed modulation and coding scheme is observed to have a 4 dB gain over the current HSDPA systems.

In this work we will discuss the implications of understanding hybridization using the mathematical framework of error control coding theory and how this requires not only the use of information theoretic analysis tools, but compels us to view and model biomolecular systems as information transmission and processing systems. Using the genetic communication theory paradigm, we investigate coding theory algorithms for in silico categorization of single nucleotide polymorphisms based on the calculation of syndromes [1]. We explore the use of coding theory frameworks in the design of in vitro computational biosensors [2] and design of error correcting biosensors [3] for monitoring biomolecular systems. We conclude by briefly investigating the necessity of biological coding theory in the emerging field of synthetic biology [4] where incorporation of error control codes into synthetic DNA, an established area of research in the field of DNA computing [5], is becoming an area of growing interest in order to increase the robustness of engineered biomolecular systems.

In this paper, we propose a joint link-adaptation and traffic control algorithm that efficiently allocates network resources to support multiple scalable video users over a capacity constrained wireless channel. Multi-rate networks, such as IEEE 802.16 or IEEE 802.11 use a link adaptation mechanism in the physical layer (PHY) and adjust the coding and modulation schemes to maintain the reliability of transmission under varying channel conditions. We consider Medium Grain Scalable (MGS) H.264/AVC video and employ a traffic control module that selectively drops individual video packets based on the packet dependencies in MGS. We present a framework that jointly optimizes the operation of the link adaptation and packet drop modules to achieve the highest video quality, while satisfying bandwidth/capacity constraints. Performance evaluations show that our proposed framework results in significant gains over existing schemes in terms of average video PSNR that can reach 3 dB in some cases for different channel SNRs and different bandwidth budgets.

Recently, tight network coordination in cellular systems has been demonstrated to improve the spectrum efficiency by means of signal processing methods. However, the performance of signal processing based multi-cell coordination is sensitive to backhaul delays, channel estimation errors and imperfections in fast link control. In this paper we consider tight network coordination for fast radio resource management (RRM) including packet scheduling, power control and modulation and coding scheme selection. We use a system level simulator to analyze the uplink performance of a multi-cell coordinated system that is built around a fast backhaul transport infrastructure for the purpose of enabling coordinated RRM rather than coordinated signal processing. We find that coordinated RRM alone can provide significant performance gains, up to 50% for cell edge and cell capacity as compared to traditional single-cell configurations and that multi-cell fast power control and modulation and coding scheme selection can significantly improve the accuracy of link adaptation in terms of signal-to-interference-and-noise (SINR) distribution, while imposing lower demands on the capacities of backhaul links compared to coordinated signal processing. Therefore RRM coordination can be an efficient complement to coordinated signal processing in multi-cell coordinated clusters.

We consider the design and performance analysis of adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) applied to regenerative dual-hop transmission systems, where a source node communicates with a corresponding destination node only indirectly via an intermediate relay station operating in the well-known decode-and-forward mode. Specifically, we consider the general case where the AMC over both hops is performed independently of each other. As such, a buffer is required at the relay station to buffer certain data packets received from the source node before they can be forwarded to the actual destination. The proposed scheme is especially suitable for systems operating in time division duplex (TDD) mode, where channel state information is readily available at the transmitter-side. We analyze the performance of our approach based on a finite-state Markov chain model of our system and we derive exact analytical closed-form expressions for a variety of different performance measures, which are illustrated for various cases by means of selected numerical results.
