Terrestrial digital multimedia TV/handle broadcasting (DMB-TH) is a newly upcoming framing structure, channel coding and modulation for digital television terrestrial broadcasting system standard of China, which is recently drafted and is ready to be verified in order to deploy mobile multimedia broadcasting services for the public. The adoption of strong channel coding techniques appears to be of key importance for mobile operators and broadcasters. Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes have been widely considered as error-correcting codes for next generation communication systems. A good LDPC decoder design requires both implementation friendly LDPC codes and efficient decoder architectures. The quality of LDPC code is crucial in determining the coding gain and implementation complexity of LDPC hardware decoders. This paper presents a turbo-decoding message-passing algorithm (TDMP) based LDPC code search algorithm with hardware considerations. The main advantages of the proposed algorithm over the DMB-TH standard decoding algorithm are 1) improvement in coding gain by an order of magnitude at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), 2) reduced decoder complexity. The performance of the proposed TDMP architecture is shown by the comparison of simulation results.

We propose a promising property for the transmitter using inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT). Based on this property and parallel combinatory (PC) code, we propose a new parallel combinatory OFDM system. For different design requirements such as peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction or BER performance improvement, the system can select appropriate phase sets for all modulated subcarriers for each PC code. Compared with the original BPSK modulated OFDM system, the proposed system will achieve better PAPR characteristics or promising BER performance which also decreases the cost of handsets.

The significant propagation factor effecting the link availability and channel capacity of millimeter-wave fixed cellular systems operating at 30 GHz frequencies is rain attenuation. Adaptive coded modulation and combining techniques are methods to increase link availability and channel capacity for these systems. The aim of this paper is to present the performance evaluation of these systems. The results of simulation study by using the rain fading compensation method show that performance of the systems are guaranteed to have signal reception quality with maximum BER 10 -6 in 2 km link length. The performance also shows that the link availability is 99.99% by using both selection combining (SC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC). The results also show that the channel capacities are 3.648 bps/Hz for SC and 3.653 bps/Hz for MRC. Additionally, the simulation study shows that diversity gain of MRC is better approximately 1 dB than SC at 0.01% outage probability.

The subspace channel was introduced by Koetter and Kschischang as an adequate model for the communication channel from the source node to a sink node of a multicast network that performs random linear network coding. So far, attention has been given to one-shot subspace codes, that is, codes that use the subspace channel only once. In contrast, this paper explores the idea of using the subspace channel more than once and investigates the so called multishot subspace codes. We present definitions for the problem, a motivating example, lower and upper bounds for the size of codes, and a multilevel construction of codes based on block-coded modulation.

Modern global positioning system (GPS) signals L2C and L5 have a new developmental prospect, although GPS was originally conceived for use by the military in their missions, it has become an important utility for a number of civil and commercial applications. New signals simulations provide effective help to the design of simulation as well as various simulation algorithms. This article discusses the structure of modern GPS new L2C and L5 civilian signals, analyses the principle and generation approach of the L2C ranging code and L5 two ranging codes in quadrature (I and Q channels), and then the modern GPS signals simulation was constructed based on Simulink. The result shows that the simulation platform is effective and reliable, and it is simple and intuitional which can provide a strong support for the engineering application.

This paper reports on a study undertaken within the CEPT SE42 project team with the objective of evaluating the impact of adjacent-channel interference from TDD terminal stations (TSs) to FDD TSs in the 2.6 GHz band. The results confirm that the effects of TS-to-TS interference are very modest, even in high-density hot-spot scenarios, if the TS out-of-block emissions comply with a block-edge mask (BEM) baseline limit of -15.5 dBm/(5 MHz). In carrying out this analysis we have taken into account of interference experienced as a result of finite adjacent-channel interference ratios, inter-modulation products, and saturation effects.

In this paper a game theoretic approach to study the effect of constellation size on energy efficiency of MC DS CDMA system for M-QAM modulation is studied. A non cooperative game is proposed in which each user seeks to choose its transmit power, transmit symbol rate as well as the constellation size in order to maximize its own utility while satisfying its delay quality of service (QoS) constraint. The utility function used here measures the number of reliable bits transmitted per joule of energy consumed and it is particularly suitable for energy-constrained networks. It is shown that in order to maximize the userpsilas utility, a user must choose the lowest constellation size that can accommodate the userpsilas delay constraint. This strategy is different from one that could maximize spectral efficiency. Using this approach, the trade offs among energy efficiency, delay, throughput and constellation size are also studied and quantified. The effect of Trellis coded modulation on energy efficiency is discussed additionally.

In this paper, link adaptation, which dynamically selects modulation level and coding rate according to the channel condition, and several multi-input multi-output (MIMO) transmission modes are studied. As we know, the subchannels' signal-to-noise radio (SNR) by singular value decomposition (SVD) are unequal, which requires different modulation and coding schemes (MCS) to maximize the throughput. However, uniform channel decomposition (UCD) greatly reduces the coding and modulation complexity by decomposing the MIMO channel into multiple subchannels with identical capacity. This paper analyzes the post-detection SINR of different MIMO transmission modes and presents their throughput performance with link adaptation under the constraint of required packet error rate (PER). We show that UCD mode is the first choice at high SNR considering both coding/modulation complexity and throughput performance, while at low SNR, space-time block coding (STBC) mode outperforms other MIMO transmission modes.
