Production using modular architecture can not only shorten the product development cycle and improve the efficiency of product development, but also facilitate the upgrading of a product's main functions and the recycling of materials. However, mechatronic products are plagued by various problems, such as greater difficulty in development and longer product development cycles due to their large numbers of parts with intricate internal relationships. However, the existing modular design method still faces problems when dealing with the modular design of mechatronic products. The structure of mechanical and electrical products is very complex, which is not conducive to the establishment of a model, and complex structural models lead to low efficiency and poor accuracy of module identification. Therefore, we propose an integrated module division method for mechatronic products based on core part hierarchical clustering and non-core part association analysis. Firstly, the core part screening method is used to simplify the structural model of mechatronic products and reduce the difficulty of modeling. Then, based on the core parts, the corresponding product design structural matrix (DSM) model is established. Secondly, the hierarchical clustering algorithm is used to obtain the module division scheme of different levels of mechatronic products, and the optimal modular scheme is obtained through an evaluation of modularity and a rationality analysis of module structure. Finally, based on the analysis of the association strength between the non-core parts and the existing modules, the non-core parts are classified into the corresponding product modules, and the final modularization scheme is obtained. A case study demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed method through the modular design of an electric bicycle.

The rationality of product module partition is crucial to the success of modular design. The correlations between components of complex products are complex, increasing the difficulty of module partition. Thus, many existing methods of module partition have difficulty realizing this process effectively for complex products with a large number of components. This paper proposes a module partition method for complex products based on stable overlapping community detection and overlapping component allocation. The correlations between components are analyzed to obtain a comprehensive correlation strength matrix. The undirected weighted network is used to represent components and the correlations between them. A stable overlapping community detection algorithm based on the improved judgement of within-community Shapley values is proposed to generate multiple preliminary schemes of module partition. Overlapping components among modules are allocated to the most suitable modules by adopting a genetic algorithm (GA). The scheme with the largest modularity measure Q is selected as the final scheme of module partition. The proposed method is applied to a computer numerical control (CNC) grinding machine. The proposed module partition method for complex products is demonstrated to be superior to other effective methods.

module partition is a cornerstone of modular design. Currently, the majority of module partition methods are devised for established systems with preliminary designs in place. However, for systems in the conceptual design phase, where the interrelations among internal components are yet to be fully undefined, such as small modular reactors, there exists a dearth of mature partition methods. In this paper, a new partition method tailored for undefined systems is proposed. Firstly, the random network is utilized to describe the mathematical model of the undefined system. Based on this, the well-known community detection method, the Louvain algorithm, is introduced for module partition for the undefined systems. Furthermore, a new module partition scheme that integrates the Louvain algorithm with intelligent optimization algorithms is proposed to address the problem that the Louvain algorithm is prone to be trapped into local optima for complex-structure undefined systems. Several systems, including simple-structure systems and undefined complex-structure systems, are constructed for validation, and results demonstrate that the newly proposed module partition method significantly enhances modularity and achieves superior partition outcomes for complex systems compared to other existing methods.

module partitioning is beneficial for engineers to gain a better understanding of the structure and function of complex mechanical products (CMPs). It plays an important role in the entire life cycle of the CMPs. However, owing to the large number of mechanical parts and the complex relationships, existing module partition approaches cannot obtain multi-level information. Consequently, the in-depth analysis of CMPs is hindered. Therefore, a novel multi-granularity module partition approach for CMPs based on a complex network (CN-MgMP) is proposed in this paper. Using this approach, a weighted complex network for mechanical parts (MP_WCN) was constructed. The multi-granularity module partition algorithm is presented based on MP_WCN. It consists of three phases. First, based on the concept of modularity increment, the MP_WCN is decomposed into several sub-networks, and fine-grained modules are thus obtained. Next, the topic semantic vectors of these fine-grained modules are extracted using the termfrequency-inversedocumentfrequency (TF-IDF) text analysis method. Finally, taking the global module distance (Glo-MD) as the optimization goal, the fine-grained modules are merged hierarchically to obtain optimal coarse-grained modules. The experimental results for the vertical elevator demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.

Optimization of module partition Based on the Weighted Clustering Method for a Wideband Irregular Subarrayed Array

In wideband beam scanning with module-level time delay and subarray-level phase shifting methods in irregular subarrayed planar arrays, obtaining the optimal module partition is a critical challenge. In this article, we propose a module partition optimization method based on the weighted clustering method (WCM). First, we demonstrate that pattern matching is equivalent to the subarray-level excitation matching principle. Then we transform the complex optimization model into a real clustering optimization framework based on the second-order Taylor approximation, which reduces the computational complexity. Next, the WCM is proposed to reduce the matching error by modifying the membership rule and cluster center of K-means clustering, ultimately obtaining the optimized module partition scheme. In addition, we propose a minimum module quantity estimation method to explore the relationship between array bandwidth and module quantity. The proposed methods are applicable to both the uniform and nonuniform weighting cases. The effectiveness and potential of the proposed method are verified by different numerical experiments and comparison of the state-of-the-art method.

In the context of digitalization, the rapidly changing market and ever -improving technological environment are driving the propagation of design changes, which have become a major source of risk for the successful development of complex products (CPs). To quickly respond to changing demands and improve the efficiency of CPs development, this study aimed to reveal and express the intrinsic mechanism of change propagation and develop a product module partition method that considers the influence of change propagation. First, a multilayer weighted network of CPs was constructed based on the Function-Behavior-Structure (FBS) model. Subsequently, interval -valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFS) were introduced to calculate the FBS correlation strength, and a dynamic weighting method was proposed based on IVIFS accuracy and piecewise functions. The Louvain algorithm was proposed to solve community detection problems in directed weighted networks. Finally, the viability and effectiveness of the proposed method were verified using a centrifugal unit as an example and comparing with the modified GN algorithm.

Affected by uncertain factors such as equipment automation transformation and function upgrading, mechanical products may face varying degrees of upgrade risk. In order to solve the problems about high complexity of product upgrading, the optimization method for module partition considering upgrade risk is proposed. Firstly, the basic principles for module partition are analyzed to build fuzzy correlation matrix. With the goal of optimizing module partition quality and minimizing the upgrade complexity, the improved artificial bee colony algorithm is proposed to solve the model. Chaotic dynamic weight factor is introduced to enhance convergence speed of the algorithm. The set of non-dominated solutions for module partition is obtained. Finally, the module partition of an elevator is given to verify the effectiveness of this work.

It is tough to build an effective mathematical model to describe the complicated relationships in complex mechanical products, which leads to the module partition of complex mechanical products and the guarantee of accurate results become more difficult. In addition, the module partition method cannot bring about a satisfactory module partition result if the scale of the products is huge and complicated. In this case, complex network theory is used to solve these problems in this paper. Firstly, a weighted complex network is established to systematically express the structure of complex mechanical products. In particular, customer demands are taken into account for module partition by introducing customer involvement. Secondly, the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets are used to calculate the relationships between parts for reducing the subjectivity of the calculation process. Afterwards, a modified GN algorithm (community detection algorithm) is proposed to achieve the module partition of complex mechanical products. Finally, the module partition of a wind turbine is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper. The result of the case study shows that the modified GN algorithm achieves better module partition performance than the classical GN algorithm and fuzzy clustering analysis method, which obtains a satisfactory result for applications.

How to evaluate the module partition results is a key problem to modular design, especially from the viewpoint of product lifecycle. First, this paper proposes an evaluation model consist of different information from two aspects to describe modules and products based on their lifecycle scenario. Second, the formulas are established to express the relationships between factors. Then use the triangle fuzzy functions to transform the qualitative evaluation into quantitative evaluation, so that it is easy to be analyzed. The weight and evaluation value calculating methods are given. At last, a case study is given based upon the working device system of wheel loader, and the result indicates that the model and the calculation method are available and effective.

Against the sweeping trend of mass customization, the importance of product platform design is becoming increasingly recognized by the manufacturers. module design is the foundation of product platform design, and module partition determines the effectiveness of module design. Traditionally, the vast majority of existing module partition methods ignored the design factor of customer preferences. This study proposes to employ the basic principles of robust design to make the module partition schemes less sensitive to the dynamically changing customer preferences by considering them as a noise factor. A criterion function and a noise function are each established based on the component-component correlation matrix and component-function contribution matrix, respectively. The criterion and noise functions, when combined, lead to a unique multi-objective optimization problem. Furthermore, an improved Pareto archive particle swarm optimization (PAPSO) algorithm is introduced to solve the multi-objective optimization problem in order to prevent the premature selections of non-optimal solutions. A case study is presented to showcase how the proposed new method is followed to conduct the module partition on an electric-traction drum shearer. The improved algorithm demonstrates highly competitive performance in comparison to the existing multi-objective optimization algorithms.
