The severe competition in the market has driven enterprises to produce a wider variety of products to meet consumer's need. However, frequent variation of product specification and more complexity of product cause the assembly sequence planning of product become more and more complicated. As a result, the issue of assembly sequence planning of complex product becomes a problem which is worthy of concern. In this study, a methodology for assembly sequence planning of complex components is presented, which consists of three phases: assembly-based modular design, assembly subsequences generation for each module and assembly sequences merging. Nested partitions (NP) method is used to merge assembly subsequences. Assembly sequences merging can make full use of subsequences information of modules and simplify assembly sequence planning of the complex products. A desk lamp is used as an example for implementation to validate the feasibility of this research. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

From the perspectives of modularization disassembly, the influence of entity structure, function, motion and other factors of product brought to disassembly efficiency is elaborated. A way to improve design facing modularization disassembly is proposed. The time and cost of disassembly are checked by the proposed method through examples. Comparisons of disassembly evaluation before and after improvement are conducted based on the results. The general method to improve design is summarized. In terms of differences of repair probability of key parts in maintenance process, the improvement design criterion is put forward in the method, which improves the maintenance efficiency, reduces the maintenance cost and difficulty of disassembling operation and avoids data explosion of disassembly sequence because of too many parts.

Aiming at the characteristics of optional disassembly problem, disassembly strategy based on bionic disassembly hive model is presented in this study. This method is combined with modular theory to resolve the data explosion which is caused by too many parts in disassembly body for relevant algorithms. Through establishing disassembly hive space model, the judgment of disassembly direction and some other problems are transferred into the evaluation of ant bee groups' migration routes. The relative disassembly difficulty of the part is defined based on the conception of disassembly ring. This paper presents a new method of product module partition based on the fuzzy clustering analysis. This method demonstrates the relevant definitions and calculation methods of the initial partition, min-max partition, submodule relevancy and module aggregation etc., and establishes the incidence matrix to respectively carry out the initial partition for the products and calculation of min-max partition according to various incidence relations between parts and components. Taking the submodule as computing unit in each module set, this paper carries out the fuzzy cluster analysis to obtain the module partition results of the products, and finally demonstrates the rationality and effectiveness of this method by taking the example of the working units of the wheel loaders.

This paper analyzes the current status and inadequate of three-dimensional parametric design, and introduces the conceptions and principles of KBE (Knowledge Based Engineering) technology and the parametric design. The key techniques of parametric design system are studied based on the platform of combination of Solid Works as three-dimensional feature modeling software, Microsoft Access as supported database and Microsoft Visual Basic as the development tool. Firstly, we divide the product into modules by functions. Secondly, invoke corresponding knowledge and methods of design and calculation in the KBE knowledge base to perform design and calculation. Then we use parametric modification method combined with equations, values link and design tables to get the parametric models, judge the rationality of the design parameters through finite element analysis, and create the drawings which meet the processing and production requirements using drawings automatically adjustment technology. Finally a case study of stacker design is given to validate these techniques of parametric design system, and show that the techniques have great significance for improving product design quality, shorting the design cycle and improving the competitiveness of enterprises.

At present, many sluice supervisory and control systems have high cost because of using technologies such as PLC and fieldbus. In this paper, sluice supervisory and control system is studied by using 485 bus, video capture card and digital input/digital output (DI/DO) card technologies. The system architecture and software module partition are proposed, and then detail introduction of subsystems are given. The software system is developed with low cost, and it can effectively implement the information management of sluices supervisory and control.

To improve the capability of small underwater vehicle for different type of tasks, such as high speed cruise and low speed exploration, a modular design method is discussed and different module interface forms are compared to guide the development of small reconfigurable underwater vehicle. By analyzing the structure characters and function parameters of underwater vehicle, a practical module partition method is proposed and according to a certain requirement for survey task a typical module interface form of small modular underwater vehicle is developed, including the function module structure and mechanical and electrical interface. Some possible structures based on the basic modules are also described to validate the reconfigurable capability of the small underwater vehicle.
