Modern global routers use various routing methods to improve routing speed and the quality. Maze routing is the most time-consuming process for existing global routing algorithms. This paper presents two bounded-length maze routing (BLMR) algorithms (optimal-BLMR and heuristic-BLMR) to perform much faster routing than traditional maze routing algorithms. The proposed sequential global router, which adopts a heuristic-BLMR, identifies less-wirelength routing results with less runtime than state-of-the-art global routers. This study also proposes a parallel multi-threaded collision-aware global router based on a previous sequential global router. Unlike the conventional partition-based concurrency strategy, the proposed algorithm uses a task-based concurrency strategy. Experimental results reveal that the proposed sequential global router uses less wirelength and runs about 1.9X to 18.67X faster than other state-of-the-art global routers. Compared to the proposed sequential global router, the proposed parallel global router yields almost the same routing quality with average 2.71and 3.12-fold speedup on overflow-free and hard-to-route benchmarks, respectively, when running on an Intel quad-core system.

This paper introduces multi-threaded implementation of our binary code analyzer BE-PUM for malware. On-the-fly model generation by BE-PUM is combined with duplication detection and hash compaction method to minimize the resource consumption. The method operates in three phases including parallel expansion of states, duplication detection and update of the state space. A notable feature of our algorithm is that it requires very little synchronization or cooperation between threads, which is often a bottleneck of multi-threading, due to our strategy of local resource management. The experiments on 125 real-world malware show good performance improvement.

A problem with distance fields is that the performance cost for computing a distance field is quite extensive. The main contribution of this paper is proposing multi-threaded signed distance fields based on special partition which accelerate the computing speed. Here we use the uniform grid to divide the space. We convert distance values to color and create rendering slices along x, y, z axis to visualize the computing result of signed distance fields. Besides we achieve loading and saving OBJ and STL format models. We achieve one to two orders of magnitude in the running time when comparing with brute force method.

As the number of cores per server node increases, designing multi-threaded applications has become essential to efficiently utilize the available hardware parallelism. Many application domains have started to adopt multi-threaded programming;thus, efficient management of multi-threaded applications has become a significant research problem. Efficient execution of multi-threaded workloads on cloud environments, where applications are often consolidated by means of virtualization, relies on understanding the multi-threaded specific characteristics of the applications. Furthermore, energy cost and power delivery limitations require data center server nodes to work under power caps, which bring additional challenges to runtime management of consolidated multi-threaded applications. This article proposes a dynamic resource allocation technique for consolidated multi-threaded applications for power-constrained environments. Our technique takes into account application characteristics specific to multi-threaded applications, such as power and performance scaling, to make resource distribution decisions at runtime to improve the overall performance, while accurately tracking dynamic power caps. We implement and evaluate our technique on state-of-the-art servers and show that the proposed technique improves the application performance by up to 21% under power caps compared to a default resource manager.

In this article we present an algorithm to compute the maximum size of an object, in three dimensions, that can move collision-free along a fixed trajectory through a virtual environment. This can be seen as a restricted version of the general problem of computing the maximum size of an object to move collision-free from a start position to a goal position. We compute the maximum size by dividing the object into numerous small boxes and computing which ones collide with the virtual environment during the movement along the given trajectory. The algorithm presented is optimized for multi-threaded computer architectures and also uses data structures that leave a small memory footprint making it suitable for use with large virtual environments (defined by, e.g., millions or billions of points or triangles). 3D video based on stereo/multi-view representations is becoming widely popular. Real-time encoding/decoding of such video is an important concern as the number and spatial/temporal resolution of views increase. We present a systematic method for design and optimization of multi-threaded multi-view video encoding/decoding algorithms using multi-core processors and provide benchmark results for real-time decoding. The proposed multi-core decoding architectures are compliant with the current MVC extension of H.264/AVC international standard, and enable multi-threaded processing with negligible loss of encoding efficiency and minimum processing overhead. Benchmark results show that multi-core processors and multi-threading decoding are necessary for real-time high-definition multi-view video decoding and display. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. A multi-threaded fast convolver for dynamically parallel image filtering

2D convolution is a staple of digital image processing. The advent of large format imagers makes it possible to literally "pave" with silicon the focal plane of an optical sensor, which results in very large images that can require a significant amount computation to process. Filtering of large images via 2D convolutions is often complicated by a variety of effects (e.g., non-uniformities found in wide field of view instruments) which must be compensated for in the filtering process by changing the filter across the image. This paper describes a fast (FFT based) method for convolving images with slowly varying filters. A parallel version of the method is implemented using a multi-threaded approach, which allows more efficient load balancing and a simpler software architecture. The method has been implemented within a high level interpreted language (IDL), while also exploiting open standards vector libraries (VSIPL) and open standards parallel directives (OpenMP). The parallel approach and software architecture are generally applicable to a variety of algorithms and has the advantage of enabling users to obtain the convenience of an easy operating environment while also delivering high performance using a fully portable code. Nowadays traffic classification is a fundamental process for Internet traffic management devices and Internet applications need accurate, high performance and scalable traffic classification. Traditional traffic classification is inaccurate and elementary because they are based on imprecise transport layer port method and have unacceptably memory access latency in packet processing. In this paper, we discuss an accurate multi-stage traffic classification in gigabits Internet traffic management systems using multi-threaded processor. Firstly, we address the problem of inaccurate packet classification and analyze payload of applications and standard protocols. Secondly, we present a multi-stage traffic classification using packet header fields and payload string. Finally, we present the software pipeline architecture and hardware design for our approach with network processor. We used our approach to monitor a carrier's backbone node for a month. Compared with traditional methods, the multi-stage traffic classification has 91% accuracy in a real network environment.

In this paper, Dual-Phase pipeline architecture and variable length instructions of a shader processor are proposed. The Dual-Phase pipeline architecture achieves a performance of dual core using a single core, and a parallelism of GP-GPU to accelerate graphic operations. For simplifying hard,are, the register optimization is proposed. The variable length instructions are designed for efficient executions with less memory. Various pipeline hazards are resolved by a multi-threaded method. The proposed processor supports OpenGL ES 2.0. It has a size of 0.13Mlogic and shows the performance of 16.6MVertices/s, and 33.3MPixels/s
