Spatial modulation (SM) is a class of novel multi-input multi-output (MIMO) techniques for wireless communications. In SM-MIMO, only part of the transmit antennas are active for transmission, which avoids the interference among multiple antennas and simplifies the structure of MIMO transceiver. In this paper, we summarize the recent researches related to SM-MIMO, to demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of the new technique. Furthermore, we show some potential applications of SM-MIMO in future 5G wireless communications.

Receive Spatial Modulation (RSM) uses the index of the receive antenna to convey additional information bits, which reduces the receiver complexity and improves spectral efficiency. Additionally, it provides inherent physical layer security using the Zero-forcing (ZF) precoding technique. However, the channel becomes vulnerable to eavesdropper (Eve) if the channel impulse response is assumed to be time-invariant or stationary through coherent block intervals. In this paper, a physical layer secure scheme is proposed based on phase index RSM to combat eaves-droppers that use k-nearest neighbors (KNN) supervised pattern recognition. The average bit error rate (BER) performance shows the ability of the proposed scheme to provide a suitable level of security while degrading the average BER performance of Eve.

Visible light communication (VLC) has been regarded as a promising solution in short-range intelligent communication system. Nowadays, the research is focused on integrating the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technique in the VLC system, to achieve a larger transmission capacity and stronger transmission reliability. However, one important issue should be addressed due to the use of MIMO technology: the multipath inter-symbol interference. The multipath inter-symbol interference comes from the reflection of the signal in the room and channel crosstalk between different channels. In this paper, we propose a novel optical system used in the MIMO VLC system to reduce multipath interference dramatically. Signals from different LEDs can be separated by using parabolic lens plated with reflecting film. This structure can reduce the reflection effect effectively as well. We present the simulation results to observe the distribution of optical power on the imaging plane for various receiving positions and low correlation between all channels. We can find that the optical power density becomes stronger than non-imaging system and the interference is sharply decreased, thus the SNR and BER are also optimized. Analysis about the optical system is given in this paper.

multi-input multi-output (MIMO) wireless communication system is an emerging area which offers substantial advantages for achieving high data rate with cost effective design. The spectral efficiency and reliability of MIMO systems greatly depends on the assumption that the transmitter and/or the receiver have perfect knowledge of channel state information (CSI). Hence, it is required to predict the CSI at the receiver and send the updated CSI back to the transmitter. In this paper particularly the Frequency-Flat Rayleigh i.i.d MIMO channel is considered, where as the Rayleigh fading channel provides complex and random coefficients. These complex channel parameters are estimated by using split complex real-time recurrent learning (SCRTRL) and fully complex real-time recurrent learning (FCRTRL) algorithm based recurrent neural network (RNN) structure with complex weights. The RNN with SCRTRL and RNN with FCRTRL algorithm produced a premature convergence which is overcome by the proposed genetic algorithm (GA) based learning process. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. In recent years, the concept of physical layer security (PLS) has emerged as a promising approach to supplement traditional cryptographic solutions. However, many PLS techniques rely on accurate knowledge of the channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter, which can be difficult to obtain in real-world scenarios. This paper presents a physical layer security scheme designed to enhance the security of a coded multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system operating under imperfect channel estimation conditions. To achieve a high level of security, we adopt a strategy that involves a channel-dependent interleaving scheme for the coded MIMO system, and combined additional simple coding schemes to prevent serious performance degradation caused by CSI error. Simulation results presented in this paper demonstrate that the proposed scheme effectively protects the transmitted data without any information leakage to the eavesdropper.

This paper proposes an innovative dual-input dual-output (DIDO-DC) DC-DC converter for the DC microgrid applications. The proposed converter is derived from the classic buck-boost DC-DC converter. The converter has four IGBTs, two inductors, two filter capacitors and three diodes to integrate two input sources and two loads. Using this converter topology, both the loads can be powered even when one of the input sources is not available. Compared to the conventional topologies, the proposed topology has fewer component counts and low voltage stresses which improve the converter efficiency. The output voltage expressions of the DIDO-DC converter are derived from the analytical waveforms for the buck-boost mode of operation. To verify the operation of the converter, the simulation studies have been carried out using PSCAD 4.5.1 (R) software. The experimental prototype of the converter is fabricated and tested successfully in the laboratory. The measured experimental results are also presented in this paper. Finally, the performance comparison of the DIDO-DC converter with the conventional topologies is discussed.

In this paper, a novel method is exposed to improve the performance of the Golden code. In fact, we recommend using the octagonal reconfigurable isolated orthogonal element (ORIOL) antennas instead of a conventional microstrip patch antenna. In order to obtain a dramatic improvement, the ORIOL antenna should be employed in both the transmitter and the receiver sides. Accordingly, in this paper, we recommend spacetime- polarization diversity instead of space-time singly;therefore, it is obvious that by employing this technique, the system obtains more strength against destructive fading. The simulations for different rates have confirmed that utilizing the ORIOL antenna outperforms patch microstrip one, which is roughly about 2 to 3 dB according to the rates.

This paper presents an extension of a diffusion model-based single microphone Speech Enhancement (SE) method, known as the Score-Based Generative Model for SE (SGMSE), to a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) SE. The extended method is called a multi-stream SGMSE (mSGMSE). MIMO SE's goal is to estimate multimicrophone clean speech signals with spatial cues from noisy, reverberant speech signals captured by a distant microphone array. mSGMSE models the conditional distribution of clean speech signals given the captured signals for multi-microphone signals using a diffusion model and generates clean speech estimates by using the reverse diffusion process. We also propose techniques to make mSGMSE computationally efficient and adaptable to various or unknown array geometries for general MIMO SE scenarios. Experiments show that mSGMSE outperforms SGMSE (when separately applied to each microphone signal) in terms of signal quality, spatial cues, and computation times. mSGMSE also significantly improves the automatic speech recognition performance when applied to the REVERB challenge real dataset, which has substantial mismatches including array geometries from the training dataset. Finally, we confirm that Weighted Prediction Error dereverberation (WPE) pre-processing can further enhance mSGMSE more than SGMSE.

A geometry-based stochastic scattering model (GBSSM) combining of multi-rings and multi-ellipses model for wideband multi-input multi-output (MIMO) vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) fading channels is developed in this paper with cross polarized antennas. The proposed model can be applied for the line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) scenarios. The channel implementation described in this paper is more concise compared with the available analytical solutions. Based on the proposed GBSSM and realized channel, the channel characteristics and parameters at 2 and 5 GHz with 100 MHz bandwidth are investigated in further.

A nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) algorithm based on a neural network model is proposed for multivariable nonlinear systems. A multi-input multi-output model is developed using multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network which is trained by Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm and amplitude modulated pseudo random binary (APRBS) signals with noise as data sets. Model predictive control also uses Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm for the control signal optimization. The control performance is improved by using a disturbance model that compensates both model mismatch and external disturbance. The learning rate of disturbance estimation network changes adaptively to treat the model mismatch differently from the external disturbance. Simulation results using the quadruple-tank are employed to show the effectiveness of the method.
