A high-rate spatially modulated space-time block code (HRSM-STBC) based on golden code is presented in which the spatial constellation (SC) codewords and the core STBC code matrix are designed for two active antennas. In addition to the high rate of the core STBC, the number of SC codewords offered by the HRSM-STBC scheme is the largest as compared to existing schemes that have the same antenna configuration. Consequently, the proposed scheme can provide the highest spectral efficiency to date. To maximize the achievable coding gain and diversity, the optimization of the HRSM-STBC is carried out. Performance advantages of our proposed scheme over its existing counterparts such as STBC-SM, H-STBC-SM, STBC-CSM, and DT-SM are demonstrated.

Robust output regulation for invertible nonlinear MIMO systems

The robust output regulation problem for a class of invertible nonlinear MIMO systems is addressed in this paper. Under a mild assumption on the high-frequency gain matrix and strongly minimum-phase assumption, a robust regulator is proposed with the combination of nonlinear internal model and a new extended high-gain observer. More explicitly, the robust output regulation is achieved by employing a novel extended high-gain observer-based stabilizer such that the regulated system, augmented with the nonlinear internal model, is asymptotically stabilized. The novelty of this approach consists in the use of an extended observer to estimate, under mild assumptions, all unmeasured terms. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Adaptive Iterative Learning Controller with input Learning Technique for a Class of Uncertain MIMO Nonlinear systems

In this paper, an adaptive iterative learning controller (AILC) with input learning technique is presented for uncertain multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear systems in the normal form. The proposed AILC learns the internal parameter of the state equation as well as the input gain parameter, and also estimates the desired input using an input learning rule to track the whole history of command trajectory. The features of the proposed control scheme can be briefly summarized as follows: 1) To the best of authors' knowledge, the AILC with input learning is first developed for uncertain MIMO nonlinear systems in the normal form;2) The convergence of learning input error is ensured;3) The input learning rule is simple;therefore, it can be easily implemented in industrial applications. With the proposed AILC scheme, the tracking error and desired input error converge to zero as the repetition of the learning operation increases. Single-link and two-link manipulators are presented as simulation examples to confirm the feasibility and performance of the proposed AILC.

Successive Interference Mitigation in multiuser MIMO Channels

Motivated by the work of Dahrouj and Yu in applying the Han-Kobayashi transmission strategy for mitigating the intercell interference in a multi-cell multi-user multiple-input single-output interference network (MISOIN), this paper considers splitting messages into private and common parts in a multi-cell multi-user MIMO IN. Specifically, the covariances of the private messages and common messages are designed to optimize either the sum rate or the minimal rate. The common messages and private messages are decoded in sequence using successive decoding. This paper shows how these difficult optimization problems can be adequately solved by means of d.c. (difference of concave functions) optimization over a simple convex set. Numerical and simulation results also reveal the great advantage of our proposed solutions for various types of INs. In particular, the proposed solutions are shown to outperform the algorithm developed by Dahrouj and Yu for the simpler case of the MISO IN.

Feedback-controlled lubrication for reducing the lateral vibration of flexible rotors supported by tilting-pad journal bearings

The feedback-controlled lubrication regime, based on a model-free designed proportional-derivative controller, is experimentally investigated in a flexible rotor mounted on an actively-lubricated tilting-pad journal bearing. With such a lubrication regime, both the resulting pressure distribution over the pads and hence the bearing dynamic properties are dynamically modified. The control strategy is focused on reducing the lateral vibrations of the system around its operational equilibrium within a wide frequency range. To synthesize the proportional-derivative controller gains, an objective function is optimized in the stabilizing gain domain and then chosen from a subdomain imposed by servovalve restrictions. This work demonstrates enhancements of the dynamic response of flexible rotor-bearing systems supported by an active tilting-pad journal bearing by means of the feedback-controlled lubrication regime featured via proportional-derivative controllers.

In this paper, we propose a Spatial Modulation (SM) with full diversity for 4 transmit antennas, called DS-SM, by designing SC codewords and incorporating them with a Diagonal Space Time Block Code. Similar to the conventional SM scheme, the proposed scheme only activates an antenna element at a time for signal transmission. However, it is different from the conventional SM in that it is able to achieve full diversity. In order to attain low detection complexity, an ML detector based on sphere decoding is presented. Computer simulation shows that the proposed DS-SM scheme outperforms some existing STBC-SM techniques in terms of both bit error rate (BER) performance and effective throughput.

This paper develops a multi-innovation stochastic gradient (MISG) algorithm for multi-input multi-output systems by expanding the innovation vector to an innovation matrix. The convergence analysis shows that the parameter estimates by the MISG algorithm consistently converge to the true parameters under the persistent excitation condition. The MISG algorithm uses not only the current innovation but also the past innovation at each iteration and repeatedly utilizes the available input-output data, thus the parameter estimation accuracy can be improved. The simulation example confirms the theoretical results. (c) 2008 Published by Elsevier Inc.

Blind joint estimation of channel order and the number of active users in direct sequence code-division multiple-access multi-path channels

A new, reliable and computationally efficient blind method is proposed for joint estimation of channel order and number of active users in a direct sequence code-division multiple-access system with multi-path fading channel. The proposed method (i) exploits a parametric model used for equalisation of multi-path channels in finite impulse response multi-input multi-output systems, (ii) first, estimates rank of correlation matrix of observation, by combining the subspace method and information-theoretic criteria, (iii) then, estimates simultaneously channel order and number of active users, by using the estimated rank and the model parameter, without any prior information, (iv) uses only a single antenna, in contrast to the previous methods, while having the ability to jointly estimate higher numbers of active users and channel order in lower signal-to-noise ratios. Numerical results show that the proposed method can estimate higher number of users and also has higher detection probability when using minimum mean square error algorithm.

Identification of multivariable nonlinear systems in the presence of colored noises using iterative hierarchical least squares algorithm

This paper presents an efficient method for identification of nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems in the presence of colored noises. The method studies the multivariable nonlinear Hammerstein and Wiener models, in which, the nonlinear memory-less block is approximated based on arbitrary vector-based basis functions. The linear time-invariant (LTI) block is modeled by an autoregressive moving average with exogenous (ARMAX) model which can effectively describe the moving average noises as well as the autoregressive and the exogenous dynamics. According to the multivariable nature of the system, a pseudo-linear-in-the-parameter model is obtained which includes two different kinds of unknown parameters, a vector and a matrix. Therefore, the standard least squares algorithm cannot be applied directly. To overcome this problem, a Hierarchical Least Squares Iterative (HLSI) algorithm is used to simultaneously estimate the vector and the matrix of unknown parameters as well as the noises. The efficiency of the proposed identification approaches are investigated through three nonlinear MIMO case studies. (C) 2014 ISA. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

On the reliable decentralised stabilisation of n MIMO systems

In this paper, we consider the problem of reliable decentralised stabilisation for n multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems when some of the shared controllers among these systems are faulty, in the sense that they fail to operate properly due to subsystem (module) failures that may occur in actuators, sensors or controllers. Specifically, we present a design framework using a dilated linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) technique for deriving reliable stabilising state-feedback gains for all n MIMO systems;while a set of decentralised unknown disturbance observers (UDOs) that are shared by all n MIMO systems is used for extending the result to the output-feedback case. Moreover, a sufficient condition for the solvability of the set of decentralised UDOs is given in terms of a minimum-phase condition of each subsystem and a lower-bounding condition on the number of outputs of each channel. We also present a numerical example that illustrates the applicability of the proposed technique.
