A case of negative interaction is reported between the AC and DC voltage control of a STATCOM installed in a power system. A technique to design a decoupled multivariable sampled regulator for multi-input multi-output systems is applied-for the co-ordinated control-of STATCOM AC and DC voltage, so as to overcome a potential negative interaction. A comprehensive demonstration is presented by an example power system installed with a STATCOM.

An adaptive fuzzy systems approach to state feedback input-output (i/o) linearising controller is outlined. The analysis is based on a general nonlinear multiinputmultioutput (MIMO) systems, with minimum phase zero dynamics and uncertainties satisfying the matching condition. The adaptive fuzzy system is incorporated into the control system as an outer feedback loop to increase the robustness of the i/o linearising controller. The adaptive fuzzy system is also intended to add learning and provide a channel to incorporate human expert knowledge in the form of fuzzy rule 'intelligence' with conventional i/o linearising controllers. Finally, a spacecraft attitude control problem is used to compare the technique with a conventional i/o linearising controller.

A new identification methodology, the variable structure system-based identification method, is proposed for multi-input multi-output systems. The developed identifier can successfully estimate unknown system parameters for both linear and some kinds of nonlinear systems that may not be linear in parametric space. The new identifier is essentially a closed-loop system with variable structure control. One major advantage of the proposed identification algorithm is that it provides effective identification for those nonlinear plants if only they are linear in parameter space while in sliding mode, in contrast to other identification algorithms, which usually require that the original nonlinear plants be linear in parameter space. Another advantage of the identification algorithm is that, owing to the robustness of variable structure control, systems with high parameter uncertainties and nonlinearities are not controllable, and consequently identifiable.

In this paper, a method for obtaining state-space realization form of two-dimensional transfer function matrices (2DTFM), is proposed. It can be directly obtained from the coefficients of the given 2DTFM. This state-space realization form contains arbitrary constants, and by designating them properly, coefficients can be designated variously. And, various consideration about this state-space realization, is performed. Moreover, the conditions so that the state-space realization exists, is presented.

The purpose of the letter is to develop a direct method for deriving a kth-order Routh approximant, the main advantage being that, in order to find the parameters of a kth-order approximant, it will no longer be necessary to previously obtain those of all pth-order approximants (p≤k−1), as occurs with the Hutton and Friedland method (1975).
