Cloud service providers usually utilize the resource in the data center to offer cloud computing service which needs to satisfy the demand of different customers. The load among the physical servers in the data center needs to be balanced to avoid hotspot and improve resource utility. In this paper we present a load balancing system and design an algorithm base on MOGA to get a new mapping relationship between physical machines and VMs. By a set of migrating operations of VMs the problem of load imbalance are solved. Through comprehensive simulations, the experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approaches can significantly improve the resource utilization when system load is stable variant.

Aiming at the difficulty with structure and parameter design for a wing analog beam under a large deformation condition, a large-span cantilever truss model with Pro/e is designed. Then a mathematical model of the wing beam based on the multi-objective genetic algorithm is proposed. Thereby the sizing optimization and shape optimization for the wing analog beam are conducted with the finite element analysis and meanwhile two main objectives minimizing the maximum von Mises stress and the mean-square error of the deformation displacement curve fitting are satisfied. A Pareto optimal solution aggregate is obtained after the optimization. Finally an optimal structure is concluded via the multi-objective optimization design, which improves the curve fitting accuracy of the wing and satisfies the stress strength requirement as well.

In this paper, a cooperative outsourcing platform between single-outsourcer multiple-subcontractors has been developed under a combined approach of maintenance management and production control. This platform is composed of n independent subcontractor companies; each one has a single randomly failing and repairable machine. The basic objective is to develop mathematical models for sharing the outsourcing request between the subcontractors and to find the best outsourcing periods. Different multi-subcontractor strategies is adopted, namely, equitable distribution strategy, competitive strategy, the invoice outsourcing minimization strategy and multi-objective optimization strategy. For each model, we develop optimization algorithms and conduct computational experiments to study the managerial insights for the models and the algorithms.

In order to research on the arrangement way of high-strength steel in ultrahigh voltage transmission towers, the integrated structure and material multi-objective optimization model of ultrahigh voltage transmission towers was established, and the optimization model is solved by using fast non-dominated sorting geneticalgorithm (NSGA-II). Sectional areas and materials of each bar were regarded as the design variables, the structural min-cost was considered as the objective of the economic optimization, and the min-displacement of the control point was regarded as the objective of structural optimization. Based on the software MATLAB, relevant optimization program was programmed to solve the optimization model. The results show, the optimal results can satisfy the structural requirements and reduce the cost of projects, making the arrangement way of high-strength steel way in ultrahigh voltage transmission towers more reasonable and more economical.

A lot of research effort has been put into community detection from all corners of academic interest such as physics, mathematics and computer science. In this paper I have proposed a Bi-objectivegeneticalgorithm for community detection which maximizes modularity and community score. Then the results obtained for both benchmark and real life data sets are compared with other algorithms using the modularity and MNI performance metrics. The results show that the BOCD algorithm is capable of successfully detecting community structure in both real life and synthetic datasets, as well as improving upon the performance of previous techniques.

This paper proposes an algorithm to optimize multiple indices of Quality of Service of multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP networks. The proposed algorithm, the Variable Neighborhood multiobjectivegeneticalgorithm (VN-MGA), is a geneticalgorithm based on the NSGA-II, with the particular feature that different parts of a solution are encoded differently, at Level 1 and Level 2. In order to improve the results, both representations are needed. At Level 1, the first part of the solution is encoded, by considering as decision variables, the arrows that form the routes to be followed by each request (whilst the second part of the solution is kept constant), whereas at Level 2, the second part of the solution is encoded, by considering as decision variables, the sequence of requests, and first part is kept constant. The preliminary results shown here indicate that the proposed approach is promising, since the Pareto-fronts obtained by VN-MGA dominate the fronts obtained by fixed-neighborhood encoding schemes. Besides the potential benefits of the application of the proposed approach to the optimization of packet routing in MPLS networks, this work raises the theoretical issue of the systematic application of variable encodings, which allow variable neighborhood searches, as generic operators inside general evolutionary computation algorithms.

The present study focuses on the development of a model for the optimal design of a road diet plan within a transportation network, and is based on rigorous mathematical models. In most metropolitan areas, there is insufficient road space to dedicate a portion exclusively for cyclists without negatively affecting existing motorists. Thus, it is crucial to find an efficient way to implement a road diet plan that both maximizes the utility for cyclists and minimizes the negative effect on motorists. A network design problem (NDP), which is usually used to find the best option for providing extra road capacity, is adapted here to derive the best solution for limiting road capacity. The resultant NDP for a road diet (NDPRD) takes a bi-level form. The upper-level problem of the NDPRD is established as one of multi-objective optimization. The lower-level problem accommodates user equilibrium (UE) trip assignment with fixed and variable mode-shares. For the fixed mode-share model, the upper-level problem minimizes the total travel time of both cyclists and motorists. For the variable mode-share model, the upper-level problem includes minimization of both the automobile travel share and the average travel time per unit distance for motorists who keep using automobiles after the implementation of a road diet. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is mobilized to solve the proposed problem. The results of a case study, based on a test network, guarantee a robust approximate Pareto optimal front. The possibility that the proposed methodology could be adopted in the design of a road diet plan in a real transportation network is confirmed. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
