Recently, linear programing (LP) models have been extended to track the marginal CO2 intensity of automotive fuels at the refinery gate. The obtained CO2 data are recommended for policy making because they capture the economic and environmental tensions as well as the processing effects related to oil products. However, they are proven to be extremely sensitive to small perturbations and therefore useless in practice. In this paper, we first investigate the theoretical reasons of this drawback. Then, we develop a multiple objective LP framework to assess relevant marginal CO2 footprints that preserve both defensibility and stability at a satisfactory level of acceptance. A case study illustrates this new methodology. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

We consider a multi-objective linear programming problem where some of the right hand side parameters of the constraints are multi-choice in nature. For some right hand side parameters of the constraints, there may exist multiple choices, out of which exactly one is to be chosen. The selection from the sets should be in such a manner that the combination of choices for each set should provide best compromise solution. In order to solve the proposed multi-choice multi-objective linear programming problem, this paper proposes an equivalent mathematical model, which can be solved with the help of existing non-linearprogramming method. The proposed model can accommodate a maximum of sixteen choices for a single parameter. An illustrative example is presented in support of the proposed model.

School campus energy conservation design covers a wide range of contents;it is a complex control system and involves limited resource allocation. The purpose of this study is to formulate a decision model for energy conservation and renewable energy for campuses, by employing multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) and fuzzy two-stage algorithm to reduce CO2 emissions. An empirical study was conducted using the campus of Chaoyang University of Technology as an example. Through a fuzzy two-stage algorithm, the non-inferior solution of a set of low carbon campus energy conservation design was obtained. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Fuzzy linearprogramming with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (TrFNs) is considered and a new method is developed to solve it. In this method, TrFNs are used to capture imprecise or uncertain information for the imprecise objective coefficients and/or the imprecise technological coefficients and/or available resources. The auxiliary multi-objectiveprogramming is constructed to solve the corresponding possibility linearprogramming with TrFNs. The auxiliary multi-objectiveprogramming involves four objectives: minimizing the left spread, maximizing the right spread, maximizing the left endpoint of the mode and maximizing the middle point of the mode. Three approaches are proposed to solve the constructed auxiliary multi-objectiveprogramming, including optimistic approach, pessimistic approach and linear sum approach based on membership function. An investment example and a transportation problem are presented to demonstrate the implementation process of this method. The comparison analysis shows that the fuzzy linearprogramming with TrFNs developed in this paper generalizes the possibility linearprogramming with triangular fuzzy numbers. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. A new single soft-fault diagnosis approach for analog circuit with parameter tolerance is proposed in this paper. The approach uses multi-objective linear programming (MLP) concept and fuzzy function together to diagnose the circuit under test. Node-voltage incremental equations, as constraints of MLP equation, are built based on the sensitivity analysis. Though evaluating the parameters deviations from the solution of the MLP equation and determining the deviation range using fuzzy function, it enable us to locate faulty components. Example illustrates the proposed approach and shows its effectiveness.

This work develops a possibilistic programming approach to solve imprecise project network scheduling (PNS) problems with multiple goals. The imprecise multi-objective PNS model designed here attempts to minimize total project costs and total completion time with reference to direct costs, indirect costs, contractual penalty costs, duration of activities and the constraint of available cost budget. An industrial case is used to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the proposed approach to real-life PNS problems. Several significant managerial implications for practical application of the proposed approach are also presented. The important contribution of this work lies in presenting a possibilistic mathematical programming methodology for solving the practical multi-objective PNS problems.

The growing environmental awareness and the apparent conflicts between economic and environmental objectives turn energy planning problems naturally into multi-objective optimization problems. In the current study, mixed fuel combustion is considered as an option to achieve tradeoff between economic objective (associated with fuel cost) and emission objective (measured in CO2 emission cost according to fuels and emission allowance price) because a fuel with higher emissions is usually cheaper than one with lower emissions. Combined heat and power (CHP) production is an important high-efficiency technology to promote under the emission trading scheme. In CHP production, the production planning of both commodities must be done in coordination. A long-term planning problem decomposes into thousands of hourly subproblems. In this paper, a bi-objectivemulti-period linearprogramming CHP planning model is presented first. Then, an efficient specialized merging algorithm for constructing the exact Pareto frontier (PF) of the problem is presented. The algorithm is theoretically and empirically compared against a modified dichotomic search algorithm. The efficiency and effectiveness of the algorithm is justified. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. To meet green supply chain management's requirements of a company and its transportation service providers (TSPs), it is essential to set clear, achievable, and realistic targets. This paper proposes two data envelopment analysis (DEA) approaches to find targets for two-stage network structures. The objective of proposed approaches is to plan in feasible region. The feasible region specifies bounds to ensure targets are within current operational capacity of TSPs. Applying the approaches to set targets for 24 TSPs lead to different results. However, proposed models ensure that the TSPs would be efficient in their current capacity. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Combining the economics and the environmental and social aspects of bioenergy chain implementation is a difficult task, particularly for wood fuel production. multiple aspects, such as financial analysis, technology development, natural resource exploitation and avoided environmental pollution, must be considered simultaneously. Thus, decision support models seem to be the proper tools for the overall definition of strategies in the wood energy sector. The objective of this study has been to develop a partial equilibrium model able to quantify the socio-economic and environmental effects of policy, technology and best biomass allocation scenarios on the forest residue chain. The model, based on multi-objective linear programming and spatial analysis, considers the financial benefits/losses and the potential trends of three compartments: sawmills, forest enterprises and energy plants. In addition, the model computes avoided emissions for bioheat and bioelectricity production and introduces an impact indicator for the road transport of biomass. Model outputs are defined using a multi criteria approach. The main results stress the importance of both environmental parameters and the implementation of organic Rankine cycle technology for the optimization of the entire bioenergy chain. The model was tested in an Italian Alpine region (province of Trento). (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we present an application of a method for solving the multi-objectiveprogramming problem (the MP method), which was introduced in [1]. This method is used to solve the problem of distribution (the problem of cost/profit allocation). The method is based on the principles of cooperative games and linearprogramming. In the paper, we consider the standard case (proportional distribution) and the generalized case in which the basic ideas of coalitions have been incorporated. The presented theory is applied and explained on an investment model for economic recovery.
