Advances in electronic systems, wireless communication protocols, and intelligent devices allowed the development of networks of mobile devices such as cars, drones, and robots. The field of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) comprises networks where the mobility of the devices is one of the fundamental elements that characterise these networks. However, the node's mobility leads to constant changes in the network's topology, representing a challenge to routing protocols designed for MANETs. Although there is effort from researchers to tackle the intricacies of routing protocols in MANETs, there is still room for improvement as new applications with challenging specifications continue to arise. This research enriches the existing theoretical perspective by presenting an innovative method for optimising the routing performance of the ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) protocol. Grounded on multi-objective metaheuristics, we aim to improve AODV's routing recovery performance concerning routing delay, energy consumption, packet loss ratio, and route load metrics. To gauge the quality of our contribution, we compare its performance to the standard AODV, a mono-objective optimised AODV, and four other well-known routing protocols with different routing approaches. The results indicate that the proposed solution was superior to the original AODV with average improvements of 56.0%, 59.3%, 48.1% and 0.7% on route load, routing delay, packet loss ratio and energy consumption, respectively. It also presented competitive results compared to other routing protocols.

On multi-objective economic predictive control for cyclic process operation

In recent literature, a utopia-tracking strategy has been proposed for multi-objective model predictive control. This strategy tracks a vector of independently minimized objectives, evaluated at steady-state operation (the utopia point). The approach in the present work is based on the premise that cyclic process operation may in some cases outperform, on average, steady-state operation. We therefore concern ourselves with optimizing average performance for one cyclic period of operation. A dynamic utopia-tracking strategy is proposed, which generalizes steady-state utopia-tracking to systems which are optimally operated cyclically. The proposed control law minimizes the distance of its cost vector to a vector of independently minimized objectives, evaluating average cyclic performance (the dynamic utopia point). Recursive feasibility is established for a cyclic terminal state constraint formulation, however, conditions for stability are not given. The theoretical concepts are illustrated for a simple acetylene hydrogenation case, and a more complex oil production optimization case. The simulation study indicates novel operational insight for the oil production optimization case, by illustrating how simultaneous optimization of two objectives results in cyclic operation with improved performance. A second-generation fast Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm product shape multi-objective imagery optimization model based on degradation(DNSGA-II)strategy is proposed to make the product appearance optimization scheme meet the complex emotional needs of users for the ***,the semantic differential method and K-Means cluster analysis are applied to extract the multi-objective imagery of users;then,the product multidimensional scale analysis is applied to classify the research objects,and again the reference samples are screened by the semantic differentialmethod,and the samples are parametrized in two dimensions by using elliptic Fourier analysis;finally,the fuzzy dynamic evaluation function is used as the objective function of the algorithm,and the coordinates of key points of product contours Finally,with the fuzzy dynamic evaluation function as the objective function of the algorithm and the coordinates of key points of the product profile as the decision variables,the optimal product profile solution set is solved by *** validity of the model is verified by taking the optimization of the shape scheme of the hospital connection site as an *** comparison with DNSGA-II,other multi-objective optimization algorithms are also *** evaluate the performance of each algorithm,the performance evaluation index values of the five multi-objective optimization algorithms are calculated in this *** results show that DNSGA-II is superior in improving individual diversity and has better overall performance.

multi-objective optimization problem resolution using Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) has not yet been completely addressed. Issues such as the population diversity loss and the EA sensitivity to the Pareto front shape affect the algorithm performance. Various EAs include knowledge acquisition for the evolutionary process to deal with such problems. Several issues are crucial for the addition of knowledge using a probabilistic model;among these, we mention the time at which the algorithm should update the model, and which information is suitable for constructing the model. To handle these issues, we propose the Non-dominated Sorting Differential Evolution improvement with Prediction in the objective Space (OSP-NSDE). When several premises based on the Approximated Hypervolume metric are achieved, the OSP-NSDE triggers the objective Space Prediction (OSP) strategy. The OSP identifies trends in the movements of non-dominated individuals in the objective space, and then rapidly determines promising regions in the search space and generates a new population considering such regions. Regular variation operators are used to produce the offspring whenever the OSP condition is not satisfied. The OSP-NSDE effectiveness was verified using 31 well-known functions and three real-world problems, and compared with EA-based algorithms and others with collective intelligence. This paper presents a methodology for the multi-objective (MO) robust optimization of plate structures under stress criteria, based on Mixed Super-Elements (MSEs). The optimization is performed with a classical Genetic Algorithm (GA) method based on Pareto-optimal solutions. It considers antagonist objectives among them stress criteria and thickness parameters distributed along the plate. This work aims at providing fast and efficient objective calculations. Our method is based on the implementation of MSEs for each zone of the plate featured by its own thickness. They are constructed with a Mixed Finite Element Model (MFEM) based on a displacement-stress mechanical formulation, and is enhanced with a sub-structuring modal reduction method in order to reduce the size of each constant thickness MSE. Those methods combined enable a fast and stress-wise efficient structure analysis, which improves the performance of the repetitive GA. A few cases minimizing the mass and the maximum Von Mises stress within a plate structure under dynamic loads put forward the relevance of our method with promising results. For the sake of robustness, both discrete frequencies and frequency bands are studied. The MO optimization is able to satisfy multiple damage criteria with different thickness distributions. It brings simplicity, saves computational time and the Pareto-front presentation with stress objective provides a good overview of the possibilities for the designers.

Facility location-allocation problems arise in many practical settings from emergency services to telecommunication networks. We propose a multi-objective multi-layer facility location-allocation (MLFLA) model with congested facilities using classical queuing systems. The goal is to determine the optimal number of facilities and the service allocation at each layer. We consider three objective functions aiming at: (1) minimizing the sum of aggregate travel and waiting times;(2) minimizing the cost of establishing the facilities;and (3) minimizing the maximum idle probability of the facilities. The problem is formulated as a multi-objective non-linear integer mathematical programming model. To find and analyze the Pareto optimal solutions, we propose a Pareto-based multi-objective meta heuristic approach based on the multi-objective vibration damping optimization (MOVDO) and the multi-objective harmony search algorithm (MOHSA). We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and exhibit the efficacy of the procedures and algorithms by comparing MOVDO and MOHSA with two well-known evolutionary algorithms, namely, the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and multi-objective simulated annealing (MOSA). Maximizing the circular economy of hazardous wastes is one of the imperatives not to overshoot the biogeochemical limits of Earth. This study aimed to characterize and valorize the textile dyeing sludge (TDS) pyrolysis in response to the addition of FeCl3 conditioner in the N2 and CO2 atmospheres. The increase fraction of FeCl3 decreased comprehensive pyrolysis index (CPI600) from 1.05 to 0.42 in the N2 atmosphere and from 0.71 to 0.41 in the CO2 atmosphere at 20 degrees C/min. The addition of FeCl3 diminished the pyrolysis performance, with a more pronounced inhibitory effect occurring in the N2 atmosphere than in the CO2 atmosphere. Regardless of the type of pyrolysis atmosphere, with or without FeCl3, all the TDS pyrolysis released CO, CO2, CH4, aromatics, NH3, and SO2. The main pyrolytic byproducts were nitrides and hydrocarbons, represented by ethanolamine (C2H7NO) and benzene (C6H6). Not only did 4 % FeCl3 addition facilitate the transformation of nitrides into hydrocarbons during the pyrolysis, but it also achieved the optimal energetic performance and emission reduction. Our findings provide novel and actionable insights into the byproduct valorization and pollution control during the TDS pyrolysis and the promotion of carbon capture, utilization, and storage.

With the increase in the available types of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar radiation, it is essential that thermal power plants operate more flexibly in order to stabilize their power system. For practical flexible operation, operators (or designers) need to consider multiple evaluation indicators. This paper proposes a multi-objective evaluation method for plant operation using self organizing maps and data envelopment analysis. Pareto-optimal solutions extracted from the results of start-up dynamic simulation of a combined cycle power plant verify the efficacy of the proposed method. The high pulsating demand of fast charging stations (FCS) may cause monthly demand charges to account for a significant fraction of a station's electric bill. To reduce these costs, demand charge management can be applied to suppress peak power demands at FCSs, also using battery energy storage systems (BESS). This paper proposes a multi-objective approach for the optimal BESS and grid-tie sizing in FCS designs using genetic algorithms. With demand data from a FCS in the Netherlands, numerical studies are conducted in the Mosaik and Pymoo environments to assess the effectiveness of the proposed formulation.

Vehicle routing problem with soft time windows (VRPSTW) is an important logistic problem in the supply chain. Besides minimizing transport costs, how to guarantee fairness among the vehicles is one of the main concerns. This paper investigates a variant of VRPSTW, called VRPSTW with salary balancing(VRPSTWSB). The salary is calculated by travel costs, load, and time window violations. To solve the problem, we first design a clustering algorithm to group the customers, then propose a novel multi-objective local search algorithm to plan the route for each vehicle. The simulation results on the traditional instances show that the proposed algorithm can obtain satisfactory solutions.
