Nash equilibrium in games with incomplete preferences

This paper investigates Nash equilibrium under the possibility that preferences may be incomplete. I characterize the Nash-equilibrium-set of such a game as the union of the Nash-equilibrium-sets of certain derived games with complete preferences. These games with complete preferences can be derived from the original game by a simple linear procedure, provided that preferences admit a concave vector-representation. These theorems extend some results on finite games by Shapley and Aumann. The applicability of the theoretical results is illustrated with examples from oligopolistic theory, where firms are modelled to aim at maximizing both profits and sales (and thus have multiple objectives). Mixed strategy and trembling hand perfect equilibria are also discussed.

Eco-innovation analysis: A data envelopment analysis methodology

The examination of financial development and environmental effect has driven inquiry into creating assessment models on environmental and economic changes, particularly on eco-innovation goods. Here, a new approach is proposed to find the common set of weights (CSWs) in data envelopment analysis (DEA) to examine the eco-innovation in the presence of undesirable factors. For this purpose, first, the current models are reviewed and criticized, and their shortcomings are clarified. Then, a simple way is proposed to find CSWs in DEA. We show the proposed approach leads to a better solution compared to current methods in the literature. Finally, the proposed model is applied to the eco-innovation analysis of OECD countries. Our findings show that the Czech Republic has the highest rank in eco-innovation. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Hovering efficiency optimization of the ducted propeller with weight penalty taken into account

The ducted propeller is superior to the open propeller in hovering efficiency. However, the overall system efficiency of a ducted propeller is reduced due to its heavy structure. If the weight penalty is taken into account, will the ducted propeller still be superior to an open propeller? And in this scenario, how will a ducted propeller with better efficiency than an open propeller be designed? This paper investigates these questions by parametric analysis based on experiments and then parametric optimization that involves hovering efficiency and structural weight in objective functions. Both multi-disciplinary design optimization and multi-objective programming are performed by surrogate-based optimization. An in-house automatic structured mesh generation module is developed to deal with significant geometry variation in design space. Finally, the optimization results are validated by post-optimization experiments. The results of experiment and optimization indicate that the effects of weight penalty play a leading role at low disk loading and hence in this case, the one with lighter structure is superior. But at high disk loading, as thrust gets higher, the leading factor turns into aerodynamic hovering efficiency, therefore the one with higher aerodynamic hovering efficiency prevails. The multi-objective optimization produces an L-shaped Pareto front, and the optimum of multi-disciplinary optimization is quite close to the Pareto front knee point. The designs in this region encounter limited aerodynamic hovering efficiency loss but gain significant weight reduction. Therefore, we can obtain a ducted propeller superior to an open propeller in system efficiency with pretty low disk loading, although the weight penalty is considered. These designs feature a relatively large inner lip radius, a small outer lip radius, and a short or even no diffuser. Biofuel logistics network scheme design with combined data envelopment analysis approach

This paper studies the biofuel logistics network scheme (BLNS) design problem dealing with several decision variables, such as the biofuel facility location, allocation, delivering harvested biomass stocks to biofuel producing facilities, and distributing biofuels to the stations. Since building the biofuel facilities requires a huge amount of investments, designing an efficient BLNS will be essential to attract potential investors. We formulate the design problem as a multi-objective programming (MOP) model. Solving the MOP model would yield various network schemes based upon the weight given to each objective/goal. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) method could be applied to evaluate the efficiency of each BLNS generated by solving the MOP model. Several approaches based on the traditional DEA method emerge to overcome a critical weakness regarding discriminating power. This paper combines three well-known DEA methods to make the most use of each method's strengths and to evaluate and identify the more efficient network schemes. Through a case study for South Carolina, we observe that the proposed procedure performs well in terms of designing efficient and robust BLNSs. The proposed procedure would enable the decision-makers to have more choices for BLNSs to consider before finally selecting the best scheme regarding efficiency, practicality, and feasibility. A proposed method for third-party reverse logistics partner selection and order allocation in the cellphone industry

There are growing social and government pressures that encourage end of life (EOL) electronic products companies to focus on reverse logistics (RL) and recovery options. The complexity of RL elements for EOL electronic products is a challenge in this field. Recently, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have focused on RL activities. To this aim, third-party reverse logistics partners (3PRLPs) play an important role. This paper simultaneously draws attention to the selection of 3PRLPs and determine how orders are assigned to every 3PRLP using a new framework. There are two phases in this framework. The first phase includes an approach that integrates data envelopment analysis (DEA) with a differential evolution (DE) algorithm to increase the discriminatory power and distinguish the 3PRLPs based on their efficiencies. DEA is considered in this study because it is an effective method to determine the efficiency based on the simultaneous analysis of inputs and outputs. In Phase 2, those efficiency scores are utilized to allocate orders to 3PRLPs using a multi-objective model. Two solution approaches are employed for solving the proposed multi-objective model and to find Pareto-optimal solutions. The application of the models is shown in Canada's cellphone industry. The results reveal that the efficiency of 3PRLPs may have an effect on both third-party reverse logistics partner selection and the orders allocated to them.

A traffic-awareness dynamic resource allocation scheme based on multi-objective optimization in multi-beam mobile satellite communication systems

Mobile satellite communication systems play an important role in space information networks. They mostly operate at the L or S band and have multiple beams efficiently reusing the limited spectrum. Advanced technologies, such as beamforming, are used to generate numerous beams through multiple feeders, and each beam's power allocation is correlated and constrained. Frequency reuse among multiple beams results in co-channel interference issue, which makes bandwidth allocation among multiple beams coupled. It is a challenging topic to optimize the resource allocation in the real-time service traffic. In this article, a new multi-objective programming scheme is used to solve the dynamic resource allocation problem, guaranteeing high quality-of-service for multiple services of different priorities. Since the dynamic resource allocation problem is formulated as NP-hard, a new traffic-aware dynamic resource allocation (TADRA) algorithm is proposed. This algorithm is proved to be optimal in terms of the Pareto-front under constraints of co-channel interference and onboard transmit power. Simulation results show that the trade-off is well balanced between the call completion ratio in high priority and the throughput for video and data services in medium and low priorities. Additionally, it is shown that the new multi-objective programming scheme, based on the traffic-awareness dynamic resource allocation algorithm, can rapidly achieve the Pareto-front solutions and reduce the computing complexity to a large extent.

Scale Forecast Method for Regional Highway Network Based on BPNN-MOP

The forecast of the scale of highway network is of great importance in the planning of regional highway network. This paper is to seek a hybrid method to improve the accuracy and reliability of scale-forecast and obtain the optimal hierarchical structure of highway network in Hangzhou in the Year 2015, 2020 and 2025. Firstly, drawbacks of traditional scale-forecast methods of highway network and advantages of the combinative forecast method which embraces BP neural network (BPNN) and Markov chain are illustrated. Then, a novel prediction method which is based on BPNN and Markov chain with the consideration of five elements, including GDP, total population, the number of civil motor vehicle ownership, passenger capacity and volume of freight traffic is proposed. After that, a multi-objective programming (MOP) model is established to obtain the optimum technical grade structure of highway network. Thirdly, with the Program for the 13th Five-Year Development Plan of Highway Transportation in Hangzhou, the scale of highway and its optimal hierarchical structure in the year of 2015, 2020 and 2025 is obtained. Finally, the results show that the accuracy and reliability of the forecast method are improved, and the model proves to be of both theoretical and practical significance.

Industrial Structure Adjustment of Shaanxi Province under the Limited Water Resources Condition

Shaanxi Province is a region poor of water resources in China, and the lack of water resources is becoming a key factor which restricts the social and economic development of Shaanxi Province. In the perspective of ef ficient utilization of water resources,Shaanxi Province is committed to the transformation of the economic growth and the industrial structure, and treats these measures as important guarantees for the future development of Shaanxi Province. This paper focuses on building multi-objective programming model of industrial structure optimization under the limited water resources condition, indicates the direction of the industrial transformation and water consumption structural adjustment by solving the model, and furthermore points out the key factors that affect the development of Shaanxi Province in the future. Finally, the authors give some advices of promoting the reasonable and effective utilization of water resources of Shaanxi Province.

Optimization of Integrated Risk in Commercial Banking based on Financial Statements

Integrated risk control and asset optimization is an important issue in commercial bank industry. This paper combines balance sheet with income statement, and forms a structure measuring each asset's risk based on the method using income statement only, having a better use of the data resource. Considering the commercial bank's diversified pursuit of low risk and high profit, we solve the problem using the method of multiple objective programming, and we give the Pareto surface to support selection decisions. The analysis framework of the integrated risk optimization based on financial statements provides a feasible idea for commercial banks’ asset optimization research with limited data resource.

Joint simulation through orthogonal factors generated by the L-SHADE optimization method

Due to its better results over the traditional co-simulation methods, joint simulation of variables through orthogonal factors has gained popularity. In this approach, practitioners transform variables into orthogonal factors, simulate them independently, and back-transform the results into the initial space. It is unlikely to generate spatially uncorrelated factors at more than two lags. Therefore, the idea of simultaneous diagonalization has become the topic of so many studies. Some approaches have used the Jacobi transformation to replace a multivariate minimization problem with a sequence of univariate problems. However, these studies do not pay attention to the interruption of the previously minimized univariate problems while solving the new one. Therefore, this study aimed to minimize the objective function by considering all the univariate problems at once using the L-SHADE optimization method. The proposed method was applied to the Meiduk porphyry copper deposit to generate the L-SHADE factors. L-SHADE was efficient due to high speed of convergence and giving logical answer. Comparison among the L-SHADE factors and those of principal component analysis and Min/max autocorrelation factors showed better performance of the L-SHADE method such that the cross-variograms of the L-SHADE factors did not show noticeable spatial pattern and generally had smaller values. Sequential simulation was used to produce fifty equiprobable realizations from the L-SHADE factors. The proposed approach could reproduce the means, variances, correlation coefficients, cumulative distributions, and auto/cross-variograms of the variables in the simulations. Therefore, the simulations were reliable to be used in long-term production planning.
