Accurate parameters are critical to permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive. This article investigates accurate flux linkages, inductances, and PM flux linkage estimation for PMSM with core loss compensation. With conventional model, core loss will induce flux linkage error especially in deep saturation region. Hence, this article first proposes a novel differential modeling technique to compensate core loss, in which differential measurement is defined as the incremental value calculated from the actual measurements under two different speed conditions. With multiple differential measurements, the flux linkage error due to core loss can be compensated to improve the accuracy of flux linkage estimation. Then, the polynomial-based flux linkage model is used to derive PM flux linkage and cross-saturation inductances. Self-inductances are estimated from the flux linkage model using least-squares method. The proposed approach can accurately estimate parameters without the need of core loss data and can improve the estimation accuracy especially in deep saturation region, which is validated on a laboratory interior PMSM and compared with the existing methods under various operating conditions.

This paper explores joint multi-parameter estimation for intra-vehicle wireless sensor networks (IVWSNs) over kappa - mu fading channels. Precise parameter estimation is crucial for reliable transmission and accurate sensing in IVWSNs, yet existing moment-based estimations lack accuracy. To address this, we propose a novel suboptimal multi-parameter estimation algorithm for robust transmission and sensing (SMARTS) based on sequential number-theoretic optimization (SNTO) within the framework of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). Its performance approaches the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB), and an efficiency-enhancement strategy is introduced to improve real-time applications. Simulation and data analysis demonstrate its accuracy, robustness, and practicality.

This paper proposes a novel multi-parameter estimation algorithm for the k-mu fading channel model to analyze wireless transmission performance in complex time-varying and non-line-of-sight communication scenarios involving moving targets. The proposed estimator offers a mathematically tractable theoretical framework for the application of the k-mu fading channel model in realistic scenarios. Specifically, the algorithm obtains expressions for the moment-generating function of the k-mu fading distribution and eliminates the gamma function using the even-order moment value comparison method. It then obtains two sets of solution models for the moment-generating function at different orders, which enable the estimation of the k and m parameters using three sets of closed-form solutions. The k and mu parameters are estimated based on received channel data samples generated using the Monte Carlo method to restore the distribution envelope of the received signal. Simulation results show strong agreement between theoretical and estimated values for the closed-form estimated solutions. Additionally, the differences in complexity, accuracy exhibited under different parameter settings, and robustness under decreasing SNR may make the estimators suitable for different practical application scenarios.

A multi-parameter estimation of layered rock-soil thermal properties of borehole heat exchanger in a stratified subsurface

The high initial investment of borehole heat exchanger (BHE) prevents the popularization and application of ground-coupled heat pump system (GCHPs). As the premise of designing BHE, ground thermal properties are usually obtained using thermal response test (TRT), and parameter estimation method are applied based on homogeneous BHE model independent of geological stratification. In this paper, a multi-parameter estimation method using Bat algorithm (BA) is firstly proposed to obtain the layered rock-soil thermal properties based on the numerical layered BHE model, considering the characteristics of geological stratification. Then, a TRT experimental platform of three-layer BHE is developed to measure thermal responses of different stratified subsurface. Finally, the six thermal properties are obtained by the proposed multi-parameter estimation method based on BA, and their accuracy is validated using the experimental data in TRT. The five temperatures obtained from the numerical layered BHE model using the estimated results are compared with the corresponding experimental data, the results show that the maximum error of the inlet and outlet water temperatures of the BHE is respectively 3.32 % and 3.59 %, and it is 3.31 %, 2.38 % and 2.7 % for the coarse sand, fine sand and brown soil, respectively.

Estimating multiple parameters simultaneously is of great importance to measurement science and application. For a single parameter, atomic Ramsey interferometry (or equivalently optical Mach-Zehnder interferometry) is capable of providing the precision at the standard quantum limit (SQL) using unentangled probe states as input. In such an interferometer, the first beam splitter represented by unitary transformation U generates a quantum phase sensing superposition state, while the second beam splitter U-1 recombines the phase encoded paths to realize interferometric sensing in terms of population measurements. We prove that such an interferometric scheme can be directly generalized to estimation of multiple parameters (associated with commuting generators) to the SQL precision using multi-mode unentangled states, if (but not iff) U is orthogonal, i.e. a unitary transformation with only real matrix elements. We show that such a U can always be constructed experimentally in a simple and scalable manner. The effects of particle number fluctuation and detection noise on such multi-mode interferometry are considered. Our findings offer a simple solution for estimating multiple parameters corresponding to mutually commuting generators.

This paper investigates a novel current injection-based multi-parameter estimation technique for dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) considering the magnetic saturation and temperature effects simultaneously. One set of currents is injected in harmonic subspace, which does not interfere with average torque production in the fundamental subspace to obtain the stator resistance under different temperature conditions. For each injection operation, the temperature effects on the resistance and permanent magnet flux linkage are considered and modelled. Meanwhile, this proposed method employs high order polynomial surface to fit the self- and cross-saturation effects. The analytical model achieved from the proposed estimation scheme satisfies both the light and heavy saturation regions. The proposed approach is validated through experimental studies on a laboratory dual three-phase interior PMSM.

Quantum metrology is one of the technologies from which we expect a quantum superiority over classical strategies in the near future. For single-parameter estimation, a clear advantage for global strategies based on entanglement can be proven. However, there exist different answers to the question whether global strategies are better than separable strategies for multi-parameter estimation. The putative inconsistency is based on the investigation of different problem settings as well as different interpretations of the word 'separable' leading to different estimation strategies. In this paper, we discuss these different strategies for the special case of estimating a complete set of linear independent global variables of a sensor network (Eldredge et al 2018 Phys. Rev. A 97, 042337, Proctor et al 2017 arXiv:1702.04271) and outline the advantages and disadvantages of the different strategies.

Precise device characterisation is a fundamental requirement for a large range of applications using photonic hardware, and constitutes a multi-parameter estimation problem. Estimates based on measurements using single photons or classical light have precision which is limited by shot noise, while quantum resources can be used to achieve sub-shot-noise precision. However, there are many open questions with regard to the best quantum protocols for multi-parameter estimation, including the ultimate limits to achievable precision, as well as optimal choices for probe states and measurements. In this paper, we develop a formalism based on Fisher information to tackle these questions for setups based on linear-optical components and photon-counting measurements. A key ingredient of our analysis is a mapping for equivalent protocols defined for photonic and spin systems, which allows us to draw upon results in the literature for general finite-dimensional systems. Motivated by the protocol in Zhou, et al Optica 2, 510 (2015), we present new results for quantum-enhanced tomography of unitary processes, including a comparison of Holland-Burnett and NOON probe states.

Two-parameter estimation with single squeezed-light interferometer via double homodyne detection

The simultaneous two-parameter estimation problem in a single squeezed-light Mach-Zehnder interferometer with the double-port homodyne detection is investigated in this work. The analytical form of the two-parameter quantum Cram & eacute;r-Rao bound defined by the quantum Fisher information matrix is presented, which shows the ultimate limit of the phase sensitivity will be further approved by the squeezed vacuum state. It can not only surpass the standard quantum limit, but also can even surpass the Heisenberg limit when half of the input intensity of the interferometer is provided by the coherent state and half by the squeezed light. For the double-port homodyne detection, the classical Fisher information matrix is also obtained. Our results show that although the classical Cram & eacute;r-Rao bound does not saturate the quantum one, it can still asymptotically approach the quantum Cram & eacute;r-Rao bound when the intensity of the coherent state is large enough. Our results also indicate that the squeezed vacuum state indeed can further improve the phase sensitivity, similar to the single-parameter estimation. In addition, when half of the input intensity of the interferometer is provided by the coherent state and half by the squeezed light, the phase sensitivity obtained by the double-port homodyne detection can also surpass the Heisenberg limit for a small range of the estimated phases.

We propose a method to generate the multi-mode entangled catalysis squeezed vacuum states(MECSVS)by embedding the cross-Kerr nonlinear medium into the Mach–Zehnder *** method realizes the exchange of quantum states between different modes based on Fredkin *** addition,we study the MECSVS as the probe state of multi-arm optical interferometer to realize multi-phase simultaneous *** results show that the quantum Cramer–Rao bound(QCRB)of phase estimation can be improved by increasing the number of catalytic photons or decreasing the transmissivity of the optical beam splitter using for photon *** addition,we also show that even if there is photon loss,the QCRB of our photon catalysis scheme is lower than that of the ideal entangled squeezed vacuum states(ESVS),which shows that by performing the photon catalytic operation is more robust against photon loss than that without the catalytic *** results here can find applications in quantum metrology for multiparatmeter estimation.
