multi-view video consists of a set of multiple video sequences from multiple viewpoints or view directions in the same scene. It contains extremely a large amount of data and some extra information to be stored or transmitted to the user and computational complexity of processing. This paper proposes fast disparity and motion estimation for reduce complexity, to solve the redundancy reduction problem by considering the information of regions, and set up priority among region based on information in the pre-processing. The proposed method makes some changes to the conventional fractal-based video coding method which vary block partition depends on priory region. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the encoding time, so that the encoder complexity can be reduced but achieves almost the same compression quality. The encoding time is reduced up to 25.4%.

In this paper, a framework of region-of-interest (ROI) based multi-view video coding has been proposed to improve compression efficiency by properly segmenting the multi-view videos into different macroblock level ROI and encoding them separately. We define depth based ROI for multi-view video. Then, we propose a semantic low-complexity ROI extraction algorithm based on multi-view video plus depth. ROI quality can be improved by allocating more bits on ROI regions while fewer bits are allocated to non-ROI regions for bit rate saving. Experimental results on multi-view video coding show that 11.34% and 21.41% bit rate can be saved for Ballet and Breakdancers sequences while maintaining high objective quality of ROI regions and high subjective quality of the multi-view videos.

Efficient exploitation of the temporal and inter-view correlation is critical to multi-view video coding (MVC), and the key to it relies on the design of prediction chain structure according to the various pattern of correlations. In this paper, we propose a novel prediction structure model to design optimal MVC coding schemes along with tradeoff analysis in depth between compression efficiency and prediction structure complexity for certain standard functionalities. Focusing on the representation of the entire set of possible chain structures rather than certain typical ones, the proposed model can given efficient MVC schemes that adaptively vary with the requirements of structure complexity and video source characteristics (the number of views, the degrees of temporal and interview correlations). To handle large scale problem in model optimization, we deploy a hybrid genetic algorithm which yields satisfactory results shown in the simulations.

Exploiting redundancy is the hallmark of traditional video coding but is even more essential in multi-view video coding (MVC). The exploitation of additional redundancies, however, incurs extra computational complexity, counteracting the benefits gained from coding efficiency. In this paper, we propose an efficient segmentation scheme for MVC, which aims to lower complexity while achieving high coding efficiency in MVC. The proposed scheme is applied to the base view in MVC using the intensity of decoded frames and motion vectors of base view, which can be also recovered by the decoder. Therefore, no segmentation masks need to be encoded. So that increase of complexity and output bit rate from segmentation can be limited, allowing fast and on-line processing. The segmented objects in base view are then applied to an object-based MVC, which using object registration and warping to predict enhancement views (EVs) and initial disparity maps of EVs. These features are utilized in lowering the complexity of EVs' coding. The experimental results show that the proposed technique provides high quality and consistent segmentation masks with low computational complexity. In addition, by applying the proposed scheme, high coding efficiency and low complexity object-based MVC is achieved.

In this paper, we adopt constrained relaxation for distributed multi-view video coding (DMVC). The novel framework integrates the graph-based segmentation and matching to generate inter-view correlated side information without knowing the camera parameters. Moreover, graph-based representations of multi-view images are incorporated to form more distinctive feature constraints. The sparse data as a good hypothesis space aim for a best matching optimization of inter-view side information with compact syndromes, from inferred relaxed coset. The plausible filling-in from a priori feature constraints between neighboring views could reinforce a promising compensation to inter-view side information generation for joint multi-view decoding. In order to find distinctive feature matching with a more stable approximation, PCA-SIFT and TPS (thin plate spline) are adopted to reduce the dimension of SIFT descriptors and construct a more accurate inter-view motion model. The experimental results validate the high estimation precision and the rate-distortion improvements.

multi-view video coding (MVC) produces more realistic three-dimensional scenes using disparity (or depth) information derived from cameras placed in parallel than mono and stereo video coding. However, the performances such as chip area, power consumption and processing time are dependent on how to schedule the multi-view frames. This paper proposes a low-complexity frame waiting time aware scheduler (WTaS) for faster MVC. In order to reduce the frame memory size for MVC, we design a shared frame memory scheme so that the frame memories of many views can be shared using a smaller frame memory for high frame memory utilization. Experimental results show that the proposed low-complexity WTaS scheduler can reduce the size by 30%similar to 50% without degradation of the processing time.

The use of mixed spatial resolutions in multi-view video coding is a promising approach for coding videos efficiently at low bitrates. It can achieve a perceived quality, which is close to the view with the highest quality, according to the suppression theory of binocular vision. The aim of the work reported in this paper is to develop a new multi-view video coding technique suitable for low bitrate applications in terms of coding efficiency, computational and memory complexity, when coding videos, which contain either a single or multiple scenes. The paper proposes a new prediction architecture that addresses deficiencies of prediction architectures for multi-view video coding based on H.264/AVC. The prediction architectures which are used in mixed spatial-resolution multi-view video coding (MSR-MVC) are afflicted with significant computational complexity and require significant memory size, with regards to coding time and to the minimum number of reference frames. The architecture proposed herein is based on a set of investigations, which explore the effect of different inter-view prediction directions on the coding efficiency of multi-view video coding, conduct a comparative study of different decimation and interpolation methods, in addition to analyzing block matching statistics. The proposed prediction architecture has been integrated with an adaptive reference frame ordering algorithm, to provide an efficient coding solution for multi-view videos with hard scene changes. The paper includes a comparative performance assessment of the proposed architecture against an extended architecture based on the 3D digital multimedia broadcast (3D-DMB) and the Hierarchical B-Picture (HBP) architecture, which are two most widely used architectures for MSR-MVC. In this paper,an efficient mode decision algorithm,named the multicorrelation -based mode decision(MMD),is proposed to reduce the computational complexity while maintaining the high coding *** this method,the rate distortion(RD) cost of the Direct mode is always computed and compared with an adaptive threshold as a possible early termination *** adaptive threshold is determined by using the spatial,temporal and inter-view correlation between the current macroblock(MB) and its neighboring *** results demonstrate that the proposed MMD algorithm can significantly achieve computational saving of 72.38%on average with no significant loss of rate-distortion performance,compared with the full mode decision in the reference software of multi-view video coding(MVC).

Motion estimation（ME） plays an important role in digital video compression. But it requires huge complexity to find an optimal motion vector. multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity for motion estimation in multi view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, a modified TZ search method for motion estimation in multi-view video coding is proposed in this paper. The proposed search method exploits the characteristics of the distribution of motion vectors to place the search points. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over Pel Block Search and TZ search method（JMVC） can be up to more than 77 times and 1.8 .5 times faster respectively by reducing the computational complexity and the image quality degradation is about to 0.05 ~ 1（d B） and 0.01～0.24（d B） respectively.
