In this paper, we present the performance of the generalized type II hybrid selective repeat (SR) ARQ scheme using punctured convolutional coding and the code combining technique in Multi-Carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems by computer simulations with different parameters. Multi-Carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) allows high data rate transmission in a severe noisy channel without the need of a complex receiver implementation as it reduces the inter symbol interference (ISI) and exploits frequency diversity. With the code combining, at successive decoding attempts for a data packet, the decoder for error correction operates on a combination of all received sequences for that packet. It is found that the system throughput efficiency increases when the modulation level, starting code rate and h values decreases and while the size of CDMA code matrix increases. Besides, it is observed that the system performance depends on not only the level of modulation but also the type of modulation.

Recently, pre-equalization for multi-carrier code-division multiple-access (MC-CDMA) systems has attained increased interest. In addition, combined-equalization has been proposed to further enhance the error rate performance of conventional MC-CDMA systems. However, an important issue, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), has not been addressed within such systems in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to fill this gap. In particular, we focus on uplink MC-CD MA with pre- or combined-equalization and analyze its PAPR. A general expression for the PAPR of uplink MC-CDMA is derived and some analytical properties are provided. It turns out that PAPR significantly depends on applied pre-equalization technique. Thus, we show how pre-equalization coefficients could be designed in order to reduce PAPR.

With the aid of interleaving operations, a novel construction of inter-group complementary (IGC) codes is proposed based on perfect complementary (PC) codes and orthogonal matrices. The presented IGC codes which consists of multiple groups with multiple subsets and each subset is a Z-complementary codes. For the novel IGC code, its cross-correlation function (CCF) between any two codes of different subsets in the same groups have a wider zero correlation zone (ZCZ) than that of any two codes in the same subset and its CCF between any two codes of different groups are zeros everywhere. IGC codes based code division multiple access (CDMA) systems may perform better on bit error rates than conventional codes based traditional interference-limited CDMA systems. Moreover, the new IGC codes may work well in both synchronous and asynchronous operational modes.

In this paper, an over-sampling inverse discrete multiwavelet transform (IDMWT) is suggested as a modulator strategy instead of inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) in the realization of the multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system. The suggested strategy was applied on the MC-CDMA with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, flat fading channel and frequency selective fading channel. Simulation results showed that, the proposed method gives a better bit error rate (BER) efficiency than the traditional MC-CDMA model based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) and MC-CDMA based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT).

multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) is one of the effective techniques for high data rate transmission with large user capacity. The use of carrier interferometry (Cl) codes further improves this user capacity relative to the conventional spreading codes. However. CDMA is interference limited and needs proper power allocation for channel capacity (data transmission rate) improvement. According to Shannon's theorem, channel capacity i.e data transmission rate increases with the increase in transmit power due to an increased signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR). MC-CDMA system being multiuser communication system, both signal and interference power are increased with the increase in transmit power which in turn demands optimum power allocation for transmission capacity improvement. In this paper, we develop an adaptive transmit power allocation technique for carrier interferometry multicarrier code division multiple access (CUMC-CDMA) system using Genetic Algorithms (GA). GA is used to find the optimum transmitted powers that maximize the channel capacity as well as reduce BER values. Objective function is defined as maximum channel capacity in a power constraint scenario. We have reported the performance of both the non-power adaptive and GA based proposed adaptive systems. Simulation results show that significant improvement in BER performance and transmission capacity are achieved in the present system.

When performed using an exhaustive search, the maximum likelihood (ML) joint detection of all users in a multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system has a prohibitive complexity, growing exponentially with the number of users and the number of bits in each modulation symbol. An ML multiuser detection algorithm has previously been proposed, with a complexity growing polynomially with the number of users, independent of the modulation size. The MC-CDMA system is modelled as a sphere packing lattice and a low-complexity optimum lattice decoder, called the sphere decoder, is applied to jointly detect all users. We propose sub-optimum simplifications, based on orthogonal projection of the received signal on a facet of the lattice constellation, to further decrease the complexity. Simulation results are shown with up to 64 users transmitting 16-QAM symbols.

In this paper, the effect of atmospheric turbulence on bit error probability in free-space multi-carrier optical CDMA (MC-OCDMA) scheme with Sequence Inverse Keyed(SIK) optical correlator receiver is analyzed. Here Intensity Modulation scheme is considered for transmission. The turbulence induced fading is described by the newly introduced gamma-gamma pdf[1] as a tractable mathematical model for atmospheric turbulence. Results are evaluated with Gold and Kasami code and it is shown that Gold sequence can be used for more efficient transmission than Kasami sequence in an atmospheric turbulence channel. Analysis also shows that, using two chips in each parallel path of MC-OCDMA transmitter rather than using single chip exhibits greater performance.

Future multimedia wireless communications systems will require higher spectral efficiencies, with decreased receiver complexity. MC-CDMA systems can increase spectral efficiency when employing the proper spreading code. Short codes can be used in MC-CDMA, since a high processing gain is not required. Short codes allow the use of maximum likelihood detection, thereby providing a simple form of multi-user detection. In contrast, correlation receivers are also feasible, since orthogonal codes are possible in an MC-CDMA structure. Correlation receivers offer low complexity for long code lengths, allowing an increase in frequency diversity. We emphasise the benefits of orthogonal codes for correlation detectors because of their effectiveness in reducing the crest factor, as well as providing low complexity receiver solutions.

Under certain conditions in time-slotted code division multiple access (CDMA) systems like TD-CDMA training sequence based channel estimation can be replaced by blind channel estimation. Blind channel estimation allows a capacity enhancement by allocating the resources originally reserved for the training sequences to user data transmission. In the present paper a blind channel estimation scheme is presented and briefly analyzed.

In this paper the downlink inter-cell interference (Id) of the multi-carrier CDMA systems is analyzed. Based on the concept that is always employed in the WCDMA multi-cell link-level simulation, radio geometry concept, we build a multi-cell MC-CDMA link-level simulation model with acceptable computing complexity and reliability. The question whether ICI can be modeled by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), i.e. Gaussian Approximation (GA), which is always assumed for most of the simulations, is addressed. In different scenarios, with different number of users in surrounding interfering cells and synchronization offset, the interference is analyzed by simulation on the model. The results turn out that the interference in-the MC-CDMA system is not always perfectly white. It depends on some factors in the system. Furthermore, the difference between real ICI and GA is also presented.
