The development of non-orthogonal multiplexing (NOM) techniques such as layered-division-multiplexing (LDM) brings opportunities to the evolution of the fifth generation mobile networks (5G). In order to improve the performance of 5G multicast and beyond, this paper proposes an LDM-based hybrid multicast system to take advantage of both multicast/Broadcast Single Frequency Network (MBSFN) and Single Cell Point to Multipoint (SC-PTM). Specifically, each cell in the network transmits the upper layer LDM signal in the MBSFN mode, while transmits the lower layer LDM signal in the SC-PTM mode. With the aim of maximizing system throughput, we formulate an optimization problem to allocate the transmit power between these LDM signal layers in each cell. Then, to solve the formulated problem, an algorithm based on the concave-convex procedure is proposed, which guarantees the convergence. Numerical simulation evaluates the performance of the proposed algorithm and LDM-based hybrid multicast, and demonstrates the improvement in system throughput and stream data rate.

The multicast beamforming problem with quality-of-service constraints is an NP-hard quadratically constrained quadratic program, for which a variety of low-complexity approximation techniques have been proposed. A recent approach to multicast beamforming relies on an algorithm with projections onto convex sets and bounded perturbations to approximate solutions in a Hilbert space. Owing to its iterative nature, this algorithm is suited for deep unfolding, where its design parameters are learned using some training data. A deep unfolded multicast beamforming algorithm for the single-group setting has recently been proposed. However, this method is not applicable in multi-group settings. In this paper, we propose a deep-unfolded algorithm for multicast beamforming in a multi-group setting, which is based on an algorithm with superiorized projections onto convex sets. Simulations show that the proposed method outperforms the underlying untrained algorithm in the multi-group setting. At the same time, its performance matches that of the existing deep-unfolded single-group multicast beamforming algorithm if there is only one multicast group.

Intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) have shown huge advantages in many potential use cases and thus have been considered a promising candidate for next-generation wireless systems. In this paper, we consider an IRS-assisted multigroup multicast (IRS-MGMC) system in a multiple-input single-output (MISO) scenario, for which the related existing literature is rather limited. In particular, we aim to jointly design the transmit beamformers and IRS phase shifts to maximize the sum rate of the system under consideration. In order to obtain a numerically efficient solution to the formulated non-convex optimization problem, we propose an alternating projected gradient (APG) method where each iteration admits a closed-form and is shown to be superior to a known solution that is derived from the majorization-minimization (MM) method in terms of both achievable sum rate and required complexity, i.e., run time. In particular, we show that the complexity of the proposed APG method grows linearly with the number of IRS tiles, while that of the known solution in comparison grows with the third power of the number of IRS tiles. The numerical results reported in this paper extend our understanding on the achievable rates of large-scale IRS-assisted multigroup multicast systems.

For the upcoming 5G systems and beyond (5G/B5G), the multicast broadcast services (5G-MBS) capability is one of the most appealing use cases. The effective integration of Point-to-Multipoint (PTM) communication will address the ever-growing traffic demands, disruptive enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) multimedia services, massive connectivity, and low latency applications. In such context, the envisaged multicast resource management solutions can take advantage of the radio access technology (RAT) Device-to-Device (D2D) communications to extend the service area, handle the multi-user diversity, improve the overall quality of service (QoS) and manage overload situations at the base stations. This work aims to study the advantage of using in-band D2D communications as a multicast relay for improving the network performance of 5 G -MBS use cases. We evaluate the multicast access technique Conventional multicast Scheme (CMS) and K-Means subgrouping based on Orthogonal Multiple Access (OMA), leveraging in-band D2D communications to enhance its resource efficiency and QoS. Linklevel simulations recreating specific MBS use cases are used to assess the proposal’s efficacy. As validation criteria, we assess the system aggregated data rate (ADR), proportional fairness (PF), and the minimum dissatisfaction index (MDI), considering various constraints associated with multimedia services, available resources, and number of users.

The XRP Ledger relies on a trusted set of validator nodes to advance the ledger history. Nodes use flood-based broad-casting to disseminate messages. Flooding offers strong message delivery guarantees at the cost of high network utilisation caused by duplicate messages. In this paper, we present pemcast, an application layer algorithm for efficient one-to-many message routing. The algorithm leverages limited topology awareness and application layer multi-casting to deliver messages in the network. The evaluation shows that compared to flooding and gossiping algorithms, pemcast can maintain similar reliability whilst generating significantly less redundant traffic.

As edge computing capabilities increase, model learning deployments in diverse edge environments have emerged. In experimental design networks, introduced recently, network routing and rate allocation are designed to aid the transfer of data from sensors to heterogeneous learners. We design efficient experimental design network algorithms that are (a) distributed and (b) use multicast transmissions. This setting poses significant challenges as classic decentralization approaches often operate on (strictly) concave objectives under differentiable constraints. In contrast, the problem we study here has a non-convex, continuous DR-submodular objective, while multicast transmissions naturally result in non-differentiable constraints. From a technical standpoint, we propose a distributed Frank-Wolfe and a distributed projected gradient ascent algorithm that, coupled with a relaxation of non-differentiable constraints, yield allocations within a 1 − 1/e factor from the optimal. Numerical evaluations show that our proposed algorithms outperform competitors with respect to model learning quality.

Physical layer multicasting is an efficient transmission technique that exploits the beamforming potential at the transmitting nodes and the broadcast nature of the wireless channel, together with the demand for the same content from several UEs. This paper addresses the max-min fair multigroup multicast beamforming optimization, which is an NP-hard problem. We propose a novel iterative elimination procedure coupled with semidefinite relaxation (SDR) to find the near-global optimum rank-1 beamforming vectors in a cell-free massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) network setup. The proposed optimization procedure shows significant improvements in computational complexity and spectral efficiency performance compared to the SDR followed by the commonly used randomization procedure and the state-of-the-art difference-of-convex approximation algorithm. The significance of the proposed procedure is that it can be utilized as a rank reduction method for any problem in conjunction with SDR.

This work presents an approach to optimize the network and reduce the congestion within a chip. It involves using NVIDIA Simba architecture as reference for Processing Element (PE). Increasing complexity within the development of multicore processors increases the need for optimization within Network-on-Chip architectures to achieve high performance in modern computing. This paper also presents the strategies in addressing major issues related to latency, and scalability in NoC systems. It concerns methods like Based Routing Conformed Paths, which improves efficiency in multicasting, the Forward & Absorb multicast method, which resolves deadlock issues related to the interaction between multicast and unicast traffic and the U-mesh algorithm used in the Advanced Hierarchical scheme, which supports efficient cycles and traffic management to further contribute to NoC performance. The proposed system involves using python script, GUI interface to generate Verilog code for the routing table in 2D 4x5 mesh network. The Leaders (L1 & L2) are selected based on U-mesh to route the data. The comparative analysis between the two algorithms are conducted and the simulation waveforms are shown. This paper explores a wide spectrum of technologies like semiconductor technology to high performance computing and consumer electronics, in general with implications for aerospace, space and defense applications.

With advancements in hardware and communication technologies, the demand for 360-degree video applications has surged. However, the overall spectral efficiency is compromised due to the inability of current multicast schemes to accurately identify 360-degree video users with similar characteristics, resulting in improper user grouping. To address these issues, we propose Hcast360, an adaptive user-correlation-based 360-degree video multicast strategy, in which we designed a user correlation metric based on the throughput difference between multicast and unicast to determine the feasibility of multicast among users. This strategy accurately assigns users to appropriate multicast groups, significantly improving the utilization efficiency of wireless resources. We decompose the 360- degree video multicast problem into three sub-problems: user grouping, resource allocation, and bitrate adaptation. To solve these problems, we propose an adaptive grouping algorithm that assigns users to suitable multicast groups without predefining the number of multicast groups. Finally, we employ a genetic algorithm to determine the bitrate for 360-degree video tiles. Experimental results show that our algorithm can improve users' Quality of Experience (QoE) significantly, achieving noticeable gains without any increase in bandwidth usage.

In this paper, the problem of maximizing the sum rate of all users in an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted millimeter wave multicast multiple-input multiple-output communication system is studied. In the considered model, one IRS is deployed to assist the communication from a multi-antenna base station (BS) to the multi-antenna users that are clustered into several groups. Our goal is to maximize the sum rate of all users by jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming matrices of the BS, the receive beamforming matrices of the users, and the phase shifts of the IRS. To solve this non-convex problem, we first use a block diagonalization method to represent the beamforming matrices of the BS and the users by the phase shifts of the IRS. Then, substituting the expressions of the beamforming matrices of the BS and the users, the original sum-rate maximization problem can be transformed into a problem that only needs to optimize the phase shifts of the IRS. To solve the transformed problem, a manifold method is used. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can achieve up to 13.3 % gain in terms of the sum rate of all users compared to the algorithm that optimizes the hybrid beamforming matrices of the BS and the users using our proposed scheme and randomly determines the phase shifts of the IRS.
