As the scale of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) grows, the inter-neuron connection problem becomes one of the major design considerations of SNN-based hardware. To deal with this issue, many researchers have studied Network-on-Chips (NoCs) with tree-like topologies to easily support one-to-many communication method in SNNs. However, such network suffers from high congestion, especially under the bursting activity of SNNs. In this paper, we introduce a novel multicast routing algorithm and 3D-NoC architecture for spiking neuromorphic chips. The proposed routing method alleviates the congestion of the overall SNN system by adopting a K-means clustering scheme, which divides the network into balanced partitions. The proposed algorithm, named KMCR, is integrated into our 3DNoC-SNN1 system and was validated based on an RTL-level implementation, while the area/ power analysis is performed using 45-nm CMOS technology. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves about 14.43% lower latency and 24.5% higher throughput when compared to the XYZ-unicast multicast for 3D-NoC configuration. Furthermore, the system achieves 8.7% higher spike injection rate when compared to other exiting works.

It is essential for implementing processing systems of edge computing, internet of things (IoT) and wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN) to use low-power parallel and distributed architectures with high speed and low power consumption. Most of the artificial intelligence and machine learning applications need to be executed on efficient distributed architectures with multicast support. In this paper, TLAM, a high-performance and low-cost NoC architecture is proposed. TLAM stands for Two-Level network-on-chip Architecture with multicast support and includes a hybrid path/tree based multicast routing algorithm and a specific two-level mesh topology. The routing algorithm of TLAM is basically working according to the Hamiltonian paths. In the proposed architecture, the topology is partitioned and the two-level links provide an efficient infrastructure for low-cost and low-latency transmission of multicast and broadcast messages between partitions. In TLAM, in addition to multicasting routing algorithm, hardware components for handling multicasting packets are designed in order to achieve performance improvements. The goal is to improve the efficiency and performance, especially latency, while handling both unicast and multicast packets. Experimental evaluations including network-level and router-level analysis with different configurations under various traffic patterns were performed. The evaluations in terms of latency, throughput, area and power consumption, indicate that TLAM provides higher performance, especially for dense multicasting and broadcasting, in comparison with the existing architectures.

The reliability of multicast communication has a strong challenging area of research and very popular in current computer networks. In this paper, based on the high reliability transmission, we proposed a minimum cost with delay-constrained multicast routing algorithm named MART, and described a network topology model with multiple QoS-constrained. The algorithm tries to minimize the cost of multicast tree under the multiple QoS-constrained. Simulation results show that the algorithm is valid and reasonable.

With the development of multimedia network, more and more real-time multimedia applications require a network capable of satisfying QoS constraints such as delay and delay-variation bound so that the messages reach each destination node at almost the same time within a certain specified time limit, and certain application also demand that different streams for each different destination node should reach with minimum cost under the constraints. Therefore, the delay and delay-variation constraint multicast routing problem is studied and a new strategy in core selection methods is proposed. The algorithm we propose guarantees that the delay from the source to any destination does not exceed a real-time constraint satisfying the delay-variation constraint under cost minimization. In addition, this core selection methods achieve a balance of optimizing cost and delay of the multicast tree. Simulation results show that the algorithm has low complexity and balances between the computational complexity and performance, it can also meet the requirements of real-time network communication.

Satellite network has played an important role in providing multicast services for its ability of wide coverage. The performance of satellite multicast can be improved if multi-layer Satellites are used in the architecture. In this paper, combining LEO satellites' advantages on transmitting real-time information with GEO's ability of big computing, a GEO/LEO Double-Layer multicast routing algorithm (DLMRA) is introduced. Using the logical location concept to calculate the first added destination, take the permanent of link into account, our algorithm aims to minimize cost of multicast trees, under the condition of the available bandwidth bound and multicast tree delay bound. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance benefits of the proposed DLMRA in terms of the tree delay, the bandwidth cost by comparison with the other algorithms proposed before.

Due to massive amount of smart grid real-time communication data and the limited network resources poses a great challenge to the timeliness and reliability of power communication services. Designing a suitable routing algorithm to improve the power communication services by saving network resources and reducing the communication delay is greatly required. Therefore, the multicast routing algorithm Minimizing Bandwidth under Delay Constraint (MBDC) was proposed. However, when using this method in real smart grid communication network, the topology of network model has a great influence on the performance of the proposed algorithm. Accordingly, the performance analysis of MBDC running in different network models constructed by complex theory was presented in this paper. The simulation results and performance analysis will help the engineers to improve the communication network when using the proposed algorithm in smart grids communication.

MMNNN: A tree-based multicast Mechanism for NoC-based deep Neural Network accelerators

Network-on-Chip (NoC) devices have been widely used in multiprocessor systems. In recent years, NoC-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) accelerators have been proposed to connect neural computing devices using NoCs. Such designs dramatically reduce off-chip memory accesses of these platforms. However, the large number of one-to-many packet transfers significantly degrade performance with traditional unicast channels. We propose a multicast mechanism for a NoC-based DNN accelerator called multicast Mechanism for NoCbased Neural Network accelerator (MMNNN). To do so, we propose a tree-based multicast routing algorithm with excellent scalability and the ability to minimize the number of packets in the network. We also propose a router architecture for single-flit packets. Our proposed router transfers flits to multiple destinations in a single process and has no head-of-line blocking issue, offering higher throughput and lower latency than traditional wormhole router architectures. Simulation results show that our proposed multicast mechanism offers excellent performance in classification latency, average packet latency, and energy consumption.

As people's dependence on the Internet increases, traditional network architectures with rigid characteristics will gradually fail to meet all demands. It has higher flexibility and provides a convenient platform for technologies and concepts such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and network function virtualization. However, the flexibility of SDN also brings various security risks. For example, (i) the fault-tolerant mechanism is not sound enough, if communication with the controller fails, then the forwarding layer device may not be able to obtain the routing information;(ii) more complex applications have lower reliability, and new applications may have hidden unknown vulnerabilities;and (iii) the open programmable interface is also in danger of being illegally intruded. To address these problems, this paper proposes a blockchain-based SDN monitoring system that uses the information invariance of the blockchain and a distributed consensus mechanism to enhance the security of SDN. It also uses the distributed storage feature of P2P network to enhance the disaster resistance of SDN. In addition, in order to prevent stakeholders and non-professionals from affecting the reliability of supervision, we use multicast instead of broadcasting for information transmission. While taking full advantage of the functions of flow control and protocol deployment, the overall security of the system can be effectively improved. Encouragingly, the simulation results show that the scheme can effectively control the traffic and balance the load at the same time. Furthermore, we also outlined some challenges and future research directions.
