IP multicast over the unidirectional satellite network provides a low cost solution that provides an effective one-to-many communication with wide area of coverage. However, IP multicast does not provide reliable data transfer which makes it unsuitable for distributing software or large amount of textual information over the network. In this paper, we propose a reliable multicast protocol which is designed specifically for unidirectional satellite link, called Reliable multicast over Unidirectional Satellite Link (RMUS). In our design, we take care of the characteristics of the unidirectional satellite link with long latency delays and often with high bandwidth on the downstream link but narrow return paths. RMUS provides error and congestion control to the multicast transmission. RMUS ensures data reliability by having the receivers detect packet loss and report that to the sender. The sender collects data loss information and uses selective repeat algorithm to retransmit loss packets. RMUS minimizes the acknowledgement process in order to keep the return path from congestion and also to keep sender away from ACK implosion. As for congestion control, RMUS monitors the current condition of the network and adjusts the transmission rate accordingly. The data rate adjustment is designed to effectively utilize the available bandwidth without causing network congestion. Our experimental results show that RMUS provides reliable multicast communication and effectively utilizes the available bandwidth as compared to other flow control schemes.

In this paper, we analyze several models of overlay multi-cast routing problem, and bring forward a new model based on multi-objective programming, discussing the solution of the model simultaneously. Then we employ the Prufer sequence as chromosome code and then propose a genetic algorithm to solve the model.. Finally, we analyze the complexity of the algorithm.

Neuromorphic simulation is fundamental to the study of information processing mechanism of the human brain and can further inspire application development of event-driven spiking neural networks. However large-scale neuromorphic simulation requires massive parallelism on multi-chip processing and imposes great challenges on dealing with data transmission latency and congestion problems between chips, especially when the number of simulated neurons reaches to billions or even trillions level. In this paper, we propose an ultra-low-latency on-chip router together with a multicast routing algorithm that focuses on reducing global loads and balancing loads between links. Additionally, we build a large-scale neuromorphic simulation platform consisting of 64 FPGA chips and evaluate the proposed design on it. The experiment results suggest that this design benefits from the proposed multicast routing algorithm in global communication loads and simulation capacity. This work has 4.1% similar to 5.2% reduction of global loads comparing to previous works and can achieve a latency as low as 25ns and a maximum data throughput of 6.25Gbps/chip.

In [1] a family of DHT-based infrastructures, termed DkappaS(N, k, f), with a number of desirable properties is presented. In the current paper, we show how multicast is achieved in DkappaS(N, k, f) overlay networks. Each multicast group is represented by an instance of ***(N, k, f), which is created and maintained exactly as the underlying overlay network. multicast messages are efficiently disseminated thanks to a correcting broadcast algorithm that allow each multicast message to be delivered exactly once to all application layer proccesses despite the presence of erroneous routing information.

It is impossible for nodes in an actual dynamic network to maintain the global accurate network state information. Therefore, it is unreasonable and inefficient to express the QoS constraints with deterministic values. In this paper, the QoS multicast routing problem is solved by use of the fuzzy number model based on GA. Both imprecision of the network state information and the fuzziness of QoS constraints are taken into account invoking fuzzy set theory. A new fuzzy genetic algorithm for QoS multicast routing is also presented and simulation experiments demonstrate that the algorithm is efficient.

A routing algorithm is proposed to support multicast routing infrastructure for heterogeneous wireless/wired networks. The algorithm has two goals: (a) reduce the overall cost of the multicast tree, (b) reduce the latency for join and leave operations when mobile units hand-off from one cell to another. The algorithm LMM (Low-cost Mobile multicast) reduces the delay during the hand-off process by precomputing the least-cost path to all neighboring cells. LMM is able to effectively support both static and mobile hosts.

Constrained minimum Steiner tree (CMST) problem is a key issue in multicast routing with quality of service (QoS) support. Bounded shortest path algorithm (BSMA) has been recognized as one of the best algorithms for the CMST problem due to its excellent cost performance. This algorithm starts with a minimum-delay tree, and then iteratively uses a k-shortest-path (KSP) algorithm to search for a better path to replace a "superedge" in the existing tree, and consequently reduces the cost of the tree. The major drawback of BSMA is its high time complexity because of the use of the KSP algorithm. For this reason, we investigate in this paper the possibility of more efficient implementations of BSMA by using different methods to locate the target path for replacing a superedge. Our experimental results indicate that our methods can significantly reduce the time complexity of BSMA without deteriorating the cost performance.

In recent years, the Internet using a conventional IP mechanism has a lot of problems such as slow packet forwarding, complex routing and inefficient usage of network resources. Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is one of the mechanisms that are proposed to solve these problems. In addition, multicast is one of the big issues In the Internet society because it can efficiently support real-time multimedia traffic. Therefore, the next generation Internet will be a system which have an MPLS backbone and can support multicast. In this paper, an MPLS multicast mechanism is considered under Internet broadcasting systems. Specially, the scalability problem of common problems in MPLS and multicast is solved using label aggregation. In the proposed algorithm, the Label Edge Router (LER) of edge router in MPLS has a new table containing information of each tree node. The table is called multicast Tree Node Table. Extending the Constrain-based Routed Label Distribution Protocol (CR-LDP), the label allocation is performed by using this table. The scalability problem can be solved using this algorithm because it reduces label consumption. So, the MPLS multicast mechanism can be easily supported in a large Internet backbone network.

Connecting mobile computing devices, such as smartphones and tablets, anytime and anywhere has been the target of mobile networks in recent decades. Nowadays, this concept is extended to connecting selected people, which requires knowing the social profile of the device users, and therefore created the Mobile Social Network (MSN). multicast routing in MSNs is concerned with finding and selecting people to deliver a message. Traditional multicast routing protocols do not consider the users' profile. Recently, some social multicast protocols have emerged. These protocols consider the social behavior and relationships of the users to decide which nodes can act as relays and which ones can be considered destinations. The aim of this paper is to experimentally compare and analyze the performance of three known protocols in MSNs. The performance measures used are: delivery ratio, relay count, overhead ratio, hop count and dropped packets. The experiments are run with different network sizes, variable buffer capacities and packets Time-To-Live (TTL). The paper is concluded with a summarized analysis of the compared protocols.

This paper presents a RAte-based multicast Protocol for lArge-scale Reliable Transport (RAMPART), which is designed to provide scalable, TCP-friendly and responsive reliable multicast transport service for applications of bulk-data transfer. We proposed a dual-bitmap mechanism to solve the problem of duplicate packets and eliminate unnecessary retransmissions. A new scalable indirect RTT measurement algorithm is introduced. And Specific Receiver selection process is distributed among all group members with records of Local_SR_ rate and Global_SR_rate assuring correct SR selection and avoiding frequent SR changes. Control tree is constructed with the aid of multicast routers using a label-based sorting algorithm. RAMPART protocol was implemented on NS. Simulations were conducted with respect to RTT measurement, throughput analysis and TCP-friendliness. The results show RAMPART is effective.
