The paper addresses the problem of geocasting in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) environments. Geocasting is a variant of the conventional multicasting problem. For multicasting, conventional protocols define a multicast group as a collection of hosts which register to a multicast group address. However for geocasting, the group consists of the set of all nodes within a specified geographical region. Hosts within the specified region at a given time form the geocast group at that time. We present two different algorithms for delivering packets to such a group, and present simulation results.

multicast heuristic algorithms are currently the field of interest for networks researchers. The optimization analysis of fast algorithms is performed using random and heuristic networks (graphs). This theoretical work approaches problem of constructing trees between the sender and group of receivers in real computer networks. The paper presents basic methods of generating the Internet topology on graph level -Waxman method and the Barabasi-Albert method. A performance study of multicast trees constructed by the algorithms is carried out and analysed, also with the heuristic network generator -Inet.

This paper is focused on the problem of QoS multicast routing. First, protocols that have been developed to support real-time multimedia delivery and quality-of-service (QoS) for multicast applications are presented. Then their performance is analyzed and compared by means of simulation. QoS routing is considered with the special goal of providing a time-alignment of multiple users, needed in many interactive multimedia services, taking into account the necessity of supporting them through efficient connections.

This paper proposes a set of novel distributed algorithms on top of m-D irregular mesh overlay to achieve the short delay and low network resource consumption end host multicast services. Our end host multicast fully utilizes the advantages of m-D irregular mesh to construct a two-layer architecture. Compared to previous approaches, the novelty and contribution of our end host multicast include: 1. cluster formation that partitions the group members into different clusters in the lower layer; 2. cluster core selection that selects a core who has the minimum sum of overlay hops to all other cluster members for each cluster ; 3. weighted shortest path tree construction that constructs the shortest multicast trees with the minimum number of paths to propagate the multicast traffic; 4. distributed multicast routing directs the multicast messages to be efficiently distributed along the two-layer multicast architecture in parallel without a global control. Simulation results show that our end host multicast can distributively achieves the short delay and low network resource consumption multicast services as compared with some well-know end host multicast systems.

Due to the globalized IC market model, the chance of a third party vendor providing a compromised chip multiprocessor by embedding a Hardware Trojan (HT) is high. multicast traffic becomes more common with the development of parallel applications and diverse programming models. In this paper, we study the effect of denial of service attacks launched by HTs on the performance of multicast routing algorithms. The HT model is proposed which exploits the on-chip temperature sensor information to identify the hotspot nodes and launch an attack on multicast packets to degrade the performance of the network-on-chip. We propose the hierarchical multicast routing algorithm which is an amalgamation of multiple unicast and dual-path routing algorithms. Simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm is more resilient to this new type of attack than a multipath algorithm.

This paper addresses the problem of multicast routing in ATM networks. Formal experimental methods are used to evaluate the relative performance of three simple multicast routing algorithms on simple mesh-based networks, using call-level simulation. The performance study focuses on the scalability of multicast routing algorithms with respect to network size, the level of multicast traffic on the network, and the size of multicast groups. The results show that the choice of a multicast routing algorithm has a major impact on network performance. Shared link algorithms, which route multicast calls along common link channels whenever possible, improve the overall call blocking performance, reduce the call blocking bias against large multicast groups, and scale much better with network size. However, the improved call blocking performance for multicast calls comes at the expense of increased call blocking for unicast calls.

multicast communication's history has been driven by many schemes; however, a few have shown their efficiency on interconnection networks. Among these schemes, path based multicast has been proven to be more efficient in handling multicast, than those classified either as unicast based or tree-based schemes. This paper, therefore, focuses on path based scheme, examining some well-known path-based algorithms. Many experiments have been conducted to evaluate these algorithms in various operating scenarios and traffic conditions. The relative strengths, weaknesses and applicability of each algorithm to diverse situations are discussed. Our results have shown the superiority of our proposed QG algorithms against some of the well know multicast algorithms

This paper presents a formal design for a novel group multicast service that provides virtually synchronous semantics in asynchronous fault-prone environments. The design employs a client-server architecture in which group membership is maintained not by every process but only by dedicated membership servers, while virtually synchronous group multicast is implemented by service end-points running at the clients. Specifically, the paper defines service semantics for the client-server interface, that is, for the group membership service. The paper then specifies virtually synchronous semantics for the new group multicast service, as a collection of commonly used safety and liveness properties. Finally, the paper presents new algorithms that use the defined group membership service to implement the specified properties. The algorithm that provides the complete virtually synchronous semantics executes in a single message round in parallel with the membership service's agreement on views, and is therefore more efficient than previously suggested algorithms providing such semantics.

For massive data transmission in Data Grid supporting radio and wireless, a set of novel hierarchical multicast algorithms is proposed to attain higher efficiency of data transfers. The newly-proposed algorithms first form different clusters, second calculate the space weight vector W' and the data quantity weight vector W'' in very cluster. Then the algorithms try to find a new vector W composed by linear combination of the two old ones W' and W". The space factor and data factor game and balance, and the point of game and balance is ¿ i ¿ j=0 m-1 w i, j ' = ß i ¿ j=0 m-1 w i, j " a built a binary simple equation, and we sought linear parameters and generate a least weight path tree, namely multicast tree, which is then constructed by using the newly-proposed algorithms to implement the inter-cluster routing. Extended simulation results indicate that the new algorithms are more suitable for Data Grid.

This paper presents a new traffic engineering technique for dynamic constrained multicast routing, where the routing request of traffic arrives one-by-one. The objective we adopted is to minimize the maximum of link utilization. Although this traffic engineering is useful to relax the most heavily congested link in the Internet backbone, the total network resources, i.e. sum of link bandwidth consumed, could be wasted when the acquired path is larger (in terms of number of hops) than the conventional shortest path. Accordingly we find a multicast tree for routing request that satisfies the hop-count constraint. We formulate this problem as a mixed-integer programming problem and propose a new heuristic algorithm to find a multicast tree for multicast routing request. The presented heuristic algorithm uses the link-state information, i.e. link utilization, for multicast tree selection and is amenable to distributed implementation. The extensive simulation results show that the proposed traffic engineering technique and heuristic algorithm efficiently minimize the maximum of link utilization better than the shortest path.
