The fuel cell/gas-turbine hybrid power systems can utilize exhaust fuel and waste beat from fuel cells to increase the system efficiency. This paper considers an internally reforming solid oxide fuel cell/gas turbine (SOFC/GT) hybrid system, where the anode exhaust, which contains the remainder of the fuel, is mixed with the cathode exhaust as well as an additional supply of fuel and compressed air and then burned in a catalytic oxidizer. The hot oxidizer exhaust is expanded through the turbine section, driving an electric generator. After leaving the gas turbine, the oxidizer exhaust passes through a heat recovery unit in which it preheats the compressed air that is to be supplied to the fuel cell and the oxidizer. This paper concentrates on multidisciplinary modeling and simulation of the fuel cell/gas turbine hybrid power system. Transient response of the hybrid energy system is studied through time-domain simulation.

Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator (EHA) is an integrated system whose performance is related to many disciplines, such as electrics, mechanics, hydraulics and control. In order to achieve the performance optimization, the best way is to balance the multidisciplinary and realize the integrated optimization. This paper focuses on the collaborative design and simulation based on commercial software AMESim for hydraulic and Mat lab for control, in which the mutual design could harmonize the designed parameters and dynamic performance synchronously. The application indicates that the multidisciplinary model is practicable and effective.

A Model Identity Card to Support Simulation Model Development Process in a Collaborative multidisciplinary Design Environment

Today, one of the major challenges in full-vehicle model creation is to get domain models from different experts while detecting any potential inconsistency problem before the Integration, Verification, Validation, and Qualification phase. To overcome such challenges, the conceptual design phase has been adapted to the current model development process. For that, the system engineers start to define the most relevant system architecture by respecting quality and time constraints. Next, the simulation model architects design the delivered system architecture in a more formal way with a modeling and simulation point of view to support the integration of domain-level simulation models in a consistent fashion. Finally, the model architects negotiate with different simulation model providers with the aim of specifying vehicle-and domain-level simulation models and their interface connections. To improve knowledge sharing between the mentioned actors, we propose a model identity card (MIC) for classifying simulation model knowledge, including input/output parameters, method, and usage specifications. The fundamental concepts that form the basis of all simulation models are identified and typed for implementation into a computational environment. An industrial case study of the engine-after-treatment model is used to show how MICs and the integrated model design phase might be used in a given scenario. A validation protocol is conducted through a heuristic observation to estimate the rate of model rework and ambiguity reduction.

A solution of multidisciplinary collaborative simulation for complex engineering systems in a distributed heterogeneous environment

This paper presents an integrated approach to multidisciplinary collaborative simulation for complex engineering systems. The formulized paradigm of multidisciplinary collaborative simulation for com- plex engineering systems is principally analyzed. An IEEE HLA and web services based framework is proposed to provide a heterogeneous, distributed and collaborative running environment where multidisciplinary modeling, running management and post-processing of collaborative simulation are undertaken. The mechanism of multidisciplinary collaborative modeling, disciplinary model transformation, and time-synchronized simulation advancement are studied in detail. A prototype with the functions of multidisciplinary modeling, running management and post-processing for collaborative simulations is developed, and a typical complex engineering system is chosen as a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of this new approach towards collaborative simulation.

Motor-pump assembly is the core component of the Aerospace Electro-hydrostatic Actuator(EHA).Thus,the design of the motor pump can be very challenging under conditions of high speed and wide pressure range,especially in particular working *** ultimate goal is to pursue better flow characteristics under a wide range of working *** this paper,we built a sub-model of the main friction interfaces and a model of single-shaft coaxial motor-pump assembly adopting the method of hierarchical *** experimental investigation of the output characteristics was mainly carried out in a phosphate ester medium ***,the flow characteristics were compared and analyzed with the simulation *** indicated that the flow characteristics of the motor-pump assembly could be accurately simulated by the model and quite severe in a low speed and high-pressure environment.

A decision support system for paper making based on simulation and optimization

In this paper a model-driven decision support system related to paper making is introduced. The intention is to emphasize the necessity of coupling different modeling techniques, multiobjective optimization, and software engineering in order to make the end user application realistic, practical and usable. Firstly the paper making process and selected aspects concerning its mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, and multiobjective optimization are introduced, then the related computerized system, called a virtual paper making line, is described. In addition, the associated decision support system, which provides a suitable level of automation to improve the quality of decision making and support the user's expertise is discussed. Finally, an example presents different ways of using such a software tool.

A generic approach for developing process-level hydrologic modeling components

Component software architectures offer an alternative approach for building large, complex hydrologic modeling systems. In contrast to more traditional software paradigms (i.e. procedural or object-oriented approaches), using component-based approaches allows individuals to construct autonomous modeling units that can be linked together through shared boundary conditions during a simulation run. One of the challenges in component-based modeling is designing a simple yet robust means for authoring model components. We address this challenge by presenting an approach for efficiently creating standards-based, process-level hydrologic modeling components. Using this approach, a hydrologic process is implemented as a modeling component by (1) authoring a configuration file that defines the properties of the component and (2) creating a class with three methods that define the pre-run, runtime, and post-run behavior of the modeling component. We present the design and implementation of this approach, which we call the Simple Model Wrapper (SMW), and demonstrate how it can be applied to create an Open modeling Interface (OpenMI)-compliant modeling component for a basic hydrologic process. We describe the design and implementation of L2W - a Problem Solving Environment (PSE) for landuse change analysis. L2W organizes and unifies the diverse collection of software typically associated with ecosystem models (hydrological, economic and biological). It provides a web-based interface for potential watershed managers and other users to explore meaningful alternative land development and management scenarios and view their hydrological, ecological, and economic impacts. A prototype implementation for the Upper Roanoke River Watershed in Southwest Virginia, USA is described.

Object-oriented design of process line simulation and optimization-A case study in papermaking

Simulation-based optimization for industrial process lines is discussed in this paper. Our approach combines multidisciplinary modeling, modern sensitivity analysis methodology as well as multiobjective optimization by means of object-oriented software design principles. As a result, a simulation and optimization approach that can be extended and modified due to users' needs can be developed. Our approach is illustrated by a real-world example from papermaking industry.
