An Ant-based multipath routing algorithm for QoS Aware Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

In the wireless ad-hoc network management, Quality of Service (QoS) is an important issue. Along with the QoS ensuring, another desirable property is the network reliability. In data communications, multi-path routing strategy can cope with the problem of traffic overloads while balancing the network resource consumption. In this paper, we propose a new multipath routing algorithm for QoS-sensitive multimedia services. Based on the ant colony optimization technique, the proposed algorithm can establish effective multi-paths to enhance the network reliability. According to the load balancing strategy, data packets are adaptively distributed through the established paths while maintaining an acceptable level of QoS requirement. The most important feature of the proposed approach is its adaptability to current traffic conditions. Simulation results indicate the superior performance of the proposed algorithm, while other schemes cannot offer such an attractive performance balance.

Due to the rapid growth of Software-Defined Networks, we can manage network traffic easier than before. One of the major issues on SDN is the multipath routing protocols due to its complexity of optimum path selection among the multiple routes. In this paper, we focus on multipath TCP (MPTCP). MPTCP is an extension of TCP that increases the throughput of TCP communication significantly by utilizing multiple paths transmission rather than a single path. We consider the multipath routing problem as a k Max-Min bandwidth disjoint paths one. The problem is to find k disjoint paths with relative higher throughput and the smallest bottleneck bandwidth of the k paths is the maximum. Since this problem is NP-complete, we propose a heuristic algorithm to solve this problem in polynomial time. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm perform better than previous work in terms of average throughput and average hop count.

Wireless Mesh Networks are new type of multi-hop wireless network with high rate and strong reliability. multipath routing is employed for load balancing, fault tolerance purposes in wireless mesh networks. With the more and more application need, multipath routing has gradually become an important topic to study. An algorithm of multipath routing algorithm based on dynamic source routing protocol(DSR) is proposed in this paper. This algorithm provides multiple QoS guarantee, such as bandwidth, delay and cost, achieves multipath load balancing and improves networks' performance. The experimental results show that our algorithm achieves better QoS performance and more advantages over DSR and split multipath routing protocol(SMR).

Demand for online services and cloud services has been increasing day to day. The usage of these services increases network traffic, which is difficult to handle by traditional networks. In the traditional networking paradigm, it is very difficult to integrate various networking devices of different versions. The programming capability in traditional networks is very less which requires manual installation even for small changes in the network. The traditional networking paradigm is a distributed architecture, in which individual networking devices will take control of the network devices which are under them. Overcoming the above limitations, a new networking paradigm called Software Defined Networking (SDN) came into existence. SDN possesses a centralized architecture in which the controller will take all the routing decisions and those instructions will be forwarded to the forwarding elements called switches. Through programming, networking devices can be configured which reduces manual installation. In this article, a detailed study on multipath routing in SDN is done. It provides a detailed study regarding different ways of implementing multipath routing. multipath routing based on optimization techniques and machine learning techniques are discussed. This chapter consists description of how load balancing can be improved and how Quality of Service (QoS) can be improved using multipath routing. multipath routing using shortest path algorithms like the Bellman-Ford algorithm, and Depth First Search (DFS) are discussed and how deep neural networks and reinforcement learning mechanisms will be used to implement multipath routing and to improve network performance is discussed. This study helps other researchers who try to do research based on multipath routing over SDN to get an overview of multipath routing. © 2023 IEEE.

A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a dynamic wireless network that can be formed without the need for any pre-existing infrastructure in which each node can act as a router. Due to bandwidth constraint and dynamic topology of mobile ad hoc networks, multipath supported routing is a very important research issue. This paper proposes a Network Coding-based Priority-packet Scheduler multipath routing in MANET using fuzzy controllers (NC-PSM). Specifically, differentiated packet scheme with feedback preference information (FPI) is studied in detail to illustrate the implement of the new approach. Simulation shows that the approach is efficient, promising and applicable in MANETs. The performance of the NC-PSM is studied using NS2 and evaluated in terms of the packet delivery ratio, packet overhead, and average end-to-end delay when a packet is transmitted. Simulation shows that the approach is efficient, promising and applicable in MANETs.

This paper proposes a Network Coding-based on-demand multipath routing algorithm in MANET (NCMR). It is typically proposed in order to increase the reliability of data transmission or to provide load balancing. In our simulation, we compare NCMR routing protocol with AODVM routing protocol, in terms of the packet delivery ratio, packet overhead, and average end-to-end delay when a packet is transmitted. The simulation results show that the NCMR routing protocol provide an accurate and efficient method of estimating and evaluating the route stability in dynamic MANETs.

A common reason for electronic measurement anomaly is the inadvertent rise in ground potential with respect to measurement ground. The ground potential rise happens during current leakage to ground from lightning or from power grid and leads to catastrophic failure unless appropriate preventive action is taken to isolate the sensitive measurement systems. A networked system for acquisition and transmission of ground potential measurements to data monitoring station is presented here. The system is aimed to implement using low-cost IoT devices with limited resources since these units are planned to be expendable. The limited processing power of such devices is not sufficient to run high efficient computation intensive routing algorithms. A lightweight routing algorithm for this purpose is proposed here. The discussion on reliability of such systems is also presented. The multipath route discovery strategy presented here reconfigures the network to an optimal configuration with respect to energy dissipation and node distribution.

Survivability optimisation of communication network for demand response in source-grid-load system

The increase of power consumption around the world puts forward higher requirements for the robustness of the power grid. As a critical application of the smart grid, demand response (DR) has significant impacts on the stable operation of the grid. The source-grid-load system (SGLS) in Jiangsu Province of China has implemented three different types of DR. This study aims at promoting the survivability of the DR communication network, which can enhance the reliability of DR. In response to concurrent dual-link failure, the authors first present a capacity expansion algorithm with the minimum distance to enhance the topology of the DR communication network. Next, they design a multipath routing algorithm based on pre-estimation to configure multiple paths for every DR terminal according to the characteristics of the DR service. Then they propose a link capacity sharing algorithm for multipath to reduce the communication network cost for DR. Simulations demonstrate the proposed algorithm can improve survivability and reduce the cost of the DR communication network. Furthermore, they compare the multipath configuration algorithms in different topology enhancement schemes, which can give some suggestions on the construction of SGLS in the future.

From Best Effort to Deterministic Packet Delivery for Wireless Industrial IoT Networks

Wireless industrial networks require reliable and deterministic communication. Determinism implies that there must be a guarantee that each data packet will be delivered within a bounded delay. Moreover, it must ensure that the potential congestion or interference will not impact the predictable properties of the network. In 2016, IEEE 802.15.4 time-slotted channel hopping (TSCH) emerged as an alternative medium access control to the industrial standards such as WirelessHART and ISA100.11a. However, TSCH is based on traditional collision detection and retransmission, and cannot guarantee reliable delivery within a given time. This paper proposes LeapFrog Collaboration (LFC) to provide deterministic and reliable communication over a routing protocol (RPL) based network. LFC is a novel multipath routing algorithm that takes advantage of route diversity by duplicating the data flow onto an alternate path. Simulations and analytical results demonstrate that LFC significantly outperforms the single-path retransmission-based approach of RPL + TSCH and the state-of-the-art LinkPeek solution.

Many applications of wireless sensor networks are critical such as, medical, crisis management, environmental, military, transportation, emergency, security applications. These applications require reliable data collection and achievement. Researchers have been investigated in this area proposing many techniques for WSN reliability meet, such as redundancy or retransmission mechanisms or multipaths routing protocols, some of these techniques dont care about the WSN limitation resources such as energy consumption. In this paper we propose a multi-path routing algorithm for WSN for reliability data transmission, considering distance and energy consumption constraints.
