The traditional system identification method based on least square method has the disadvantages of heavy computation and slow operation speed in a particular model. In this paper, the off-line identification based on the equation error autoregressive model is studied by using the relaxation algorithm which is proved the unbiasedness and effectiveness. Furthermore, on the basis of off-line identification parameters, the system is identified online by recursive relaxation algorithm that calculated by relaxation algorithm. The simulation results show that the recursive relaxation algorithm has good computational speed and identification accuracy in the multi-input-multi-output linear system.

In this paper a new space time coding, which is suitable for high data rate communications is proposed. In this approach data is encoded by using a decomposition of a circulant matrix and the output of encoder is splitted into N streams to be transmitted simultaneously to N transmit antennas. The performance of this multiple input multiple output system is evaluated in a Rayleigh fading channel. Its performance in terms of symbol error rate, diversity gain and complexity is obtained. Simulation results show that with a perfect channel estimator, when channel state information (CSI) is available at the receiver, the Circulant Space Time code (CSTC) has a better symbol error rate via signal to noise ratio in compared to the spatial multiplexing and near to orthogonal space time block code.

A method of controller design for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system is needed that will not give the high order controllers of modern control theory but will be more systematic than the "ad hoc" method. The objective of this method of design for multiple input multiple output systems is to find a controller of fixed order with performance specifications taken into consideration. An inner approximation of the stabilizing set is found through the algorithm discussed in Keel and Bhattacharyya's "Fixed order multivariable controller synthesis: A new algorithm." The set satisfying the performance is then approximated through one of two algorithms; a hybrid of two optimization algorithms or the grid algorithm found in Lampton's "Reinforcement Learning of a Morphing Airfoil-Policy and Discrete Learning Analysis." The method is then applied to five models of four aircraft; Commander 700, X-29, X-38, and F-5A using controllers of first and second orders. The examples show that when the method finds a stabilizing set, it will also find the performance set if it exists. However, it is possible for the method to not find a stabilizing for a stabilizable system.

Impact of channel estimation error on channel capacity of multiple input multiple output system

In order to investigate the impact of channel estimation error on channel capacity of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system, a novel method is proposed to explore the channel capacity in correlated Rayleigh fading environment. A system model is constructed based on the channel estimation error at receiver side. Using the properties of Wishart distribution, the lower bound of the channel capacity is derived when the MIMO channel is of full rank. Then a method is proposed to select the optimum set of transmit antennas based on the lower bound of the mean channel capacity. The novel method can be easily implemented with low computational complexity. The simulation results show that the channel capacity of MIMO system is sensitive to channel estimation error, and is maximized when the signal-to-noise ratio increases to a certain point. Proper selection of transmit antennas can increase the channel capacity of MIMO system by about 1 bit/s in a flat fading environment with deficient rank of channel matrix.

On covariance matching for multiple input multiple output errors-in-variables systems

The multiple input multiple output errors-in-variables problem is considered and it is shown how the problem can be solved by means of covariance matching. A right matrix fraction description is used for the transfer function and some covariance relations are derived. Based on these covariance relations and a set of estimated covariances from the data, an estimator in the form of a separable least squares problem is proposed. A user choice of which covariances to consider must be made. Different types of parameterizations can be considered for the estimation algorithm. Some properties of the method are illustrated in numerical examples.

Channel capacity of multiple-input multiple-output systems with transmit and receive correlation

In order to investigate the impact of channel model parameters on the channel capacity of a multipleinput multiple-output （MIMO） system, a novel method is proposed to explore the channel capacity under Rayleigh fiat fading with correlated transmit and receive antennas. The optimal transmitting direction which can achieve maximum channel capacity is derived using random matrices theory. In addition, the closed-form expression for the channel capacity of MIMO systems is given by utilizing the properties of Wishart distribution when SNR is high. Computer simulation results show that the channel capacity is maximized when the antenna spacing increases to a certain point, and furthermore, the larger the scattering angle is, the more quickly the channel capacity converges to its maximum. At high SNR （〉12 dB）, the estimation of capacity is close to its true wlue. And, when the same array configuration is adopted both at the transmitter and the receiver, the UCA yields higher channel capacity than ULA.

Practical analysis of codebook design and frequency offset estimation for virtual-multiple-input-multiple-output systems

A virtual-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless system using the receiver-side cooperation with the compress-and-forward (CF) protocol, is an alternative to a point-to-point MIMO system, when a single receiver is not equipped with multiple antennas. It is evident that the practicality of CF cooperation will be greatly enhanced if an efficient source coding technique can be used at the relay. It is even more desirable that CF cooperation should not be unduly sensitive to carrier frequency offsets (CFOs). This study presents a practical study of these two issues. Firstly, codebook designs of the Voronoi vector quantisation (VQ) and the tree-structure VQ (TSVQ) to enable CF cooperation at the relay are described. A comparison in terms of the codebook design and encoding complexity is analysed. It is shown that the TSVQ is much simpler to design and operate, and can achieve a favourable performance-complexity tradeoff. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that CFO can lead to significant performance degradation for the virtual-MIMO system. To overcome this, it is proposed to maintain clock synchronisation and jointly estimate the CFO between the relay and the destination. This approach is shown to provide a significant performance improvement.

This study presents a new low-cost multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) beam-pace technique to increase the overall link capacity of wireless MIMO communications systems in scatter-rich underground mines. This technique is based on generating multiple orthogonal beams for data spatial multiplexing using conformal cylindrical-shape patch arrays. Hence, this study is intended to reveal interests towards the use of conformal MIMO systems for underground mine communications. Two separate 4 x 4 MIMO measurement campaigns are performed and then investigated in a comparative way;the first uses conformal microstrip patch arrays (CMPA), while the second uses conventional planar microstrip patch arrays (PMPA). Based on sweeping-frequency technique (2.35-2.55) GHz, the channel performance is characterised in terms of path loss, fading distribution, capacity and RMS time dispersion parameters. Whether under a line of sight (LOS) or a non-LOS (NLOS) condition, the extracted results confirm the performance priority of CMPA for underground mines communications as they further enhance the propagation characteristics and the capacity gain of the channel;under NLOS, a maximal capacity of 12.95 bits/s/Hz is achieved compared to 9.6 bits/s/Hz obtained using PMPA. For LOS and NLOS cases, maximal capacity boosts of up to 0.43 and 3.35 bits/s/Hz are achieved over PMPA, respectively.

In this paper, we report the performance of an imaging multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system. The VLC transmitter consists of a two-dimensional (2-D), individually addressable Gallium Nitride micro light-emitting diode (mu LED) array. The receiver uses a 2-D avalanche photodiode array fabricated using complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS). Using integrated CMOS-based LED drivers, a data rate greater than 1 Gb/s was obtained at a link distance of 1 m with the system field of view of 3.45 degrees using four channels. At a reduced link distance of 0.5 m, a data rate of 7.48 Gb/s was obtained using a nine channel MIMO system. This demonstrates the feasibility of compact MIMO systems that offer substantial data rates.

Extending the reverberation chamber using a channel emulator for characterisation of over-the-air performance of multiple-input-multiple-output wireless devices

The reverberation chamber (RC) is a common tool in the wireless industry for evaluating the performance of wireless devices. In its standalone configuration, it provides an accurate and efficient test setup widely accepted for performance evaluation for R&D, acceptance testing purposes and similar. This study describes how a channel emulator can be integrated into the RC setup and in this way extend the inherent channel model of the standalone RC. It is shown that this combined setup provides a flexible solution with high accuracy for emulating various test scenarios, thus enabling comprehensive over-the-air performance evaluation of multiple-input-multiple-output wireless devices. The properties for two examples of test scenarios are described in details. These scenarios are further utilised for obtaining the data throughput performance for commercially available devices, in order to illustrate the value of multi-scenario testing.
