Prenatal vitamin A supplementation associated with adverse child behavior at 3 years in a prospective birth cohort in Japan

Background: Many pregnant women take vitamin supplements during pregnancy. The aim of this paper was to clarify the effects of dietary supplementation prior to and/or during pregnancy on child behavior. Methods: A prospective birth cohort study from pregnancy to 3 years of age involving 1271 pairs of Japanese pregnant women and their newborns, was carried out. The women completed a self-administered questionnaire during the third trimester of pregnancy. To evaluate deviations in child behavior as an endpoint, each mother completed the Japanese Child Behavior Checklist for ages 2-3 years after 3 years of birth. Participant characteristics were compared between supplement takers and non-takers. Results: Among many kinds of supplements, intake of supplemental vitamin A/beta-carotene prior to and/or during pregnancy was associated with hazardous effects on child behavior at 3 years of age (total t-score, P = 0.003;internal t-score, P = 0.027;external t-score, P = 0.013). This association held true even after adjusting for age, number of deliveries, infertility treatment, consumption of fast food, smoking status, maternal and paternal education, maternal and paternal income, gestational age at birth, anthropometry at birth (weight, height, head circumference and body circumference), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory at 3 years of age by means of multiple imputation. Conclusions: Intake of supplemental vitamin A prior to and/or during pregnancy may worsen child behavior at 3 years of age.

This paper analyzes the influencing factors of future price of crude oil,and makes quantitative analysis of the correlation between US dollar index,crude oil inventory,spot price of crude oil,US dollar exchange rate and future price of crude oil,establishes a multiple linear regression model,analyzes the influencing factors of future price of crude oil by the use of the regression model of the least square method,finds out the best function matching of a set of data by minimizing the quadratic sum of error,finds out the multiple linear regression equation of the influencing factors and future price of crude oil,establishes the multiple linear regression model by the use of statistical software,researches the correlation between the future price of crude oil and the influencing factors,thus providing useful basis for quantitative analysis of crude oil futures trading.

Our basic model is that to make some predictions for Billings next thirty years development. The major assumption is that the whole industry of the city can be divided into three parts: the agricultural area, the industrial area and the domestic area. We firstly make some predictions based on the collected data for different walks. And the future 30 years water usage trend has been given out by using the least square method and multiple linear regression model. Then we build three basic models for the three major departments. The irrigation model establishes the ditch network for west crops region accompanied by the sprinkling irrigation model used for the livestock husbandry. Next step, the industrial water consumption model is applied to the current factories.

Characteristics of heavy metal transfer and their influencing factors in different soil-crop systems of the industrialization region, China

Soil heavy metals and their bioaccumulation in agricultural products have attracted widespread concerns, yet the transfer and accumulation characteristics of heavy metals in different soil-crop systems was rarely investigated. Soil and crop samples were collected from the typical agricultural areas in the Yangtze River Delta region, China. The concentrations of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd and Hg in the soils, roots and grains of rice (Oryza Sativa L.), wheat (Triticum L) and canola (Brassica napus L.) were determined in this study. Transfer ability of heavy metals in soil-rice system was stronger than those in soil-wheat and soil-canola systems. The wheat showed a strong capacity to transfer Zn, Cu and Cd from root to the grain while canola presented a restricting effect to the intake of Cu and Cd. Soil pH and total organic matter were major factors influencing metal transfer from soil to rice, whereas soil Al2O3 contents presented a negative effect on heavy metal mobility in wheat and canola cultivation systems. The concentration of Zn and Cd in crop grains could well predicted according to the stepwise multiple linear regression models, which could help to quantitatively evaluate the ecologic risk of heavy metal accumulation in crops in the study area. Total phosphorus (TP) build-up in agricultural soils represents both a threat to aquatic ecosystems and a valuable resource for future crop production, given the context of increasing food demand combined with the rapid depletion of the world's phosphate reserves. Therefore, it is crucially important (i) to identify the main factors controlling topsoil TP and (ii) to develop methods for mapping its spatial distribution. multiple linear regression models were used with two distinct approaches to calculate TP and covariates linked to the P cycle. Firstly, covariates were selected from the Reseau de Mesures de la Qualite des Sols database, the French soil monitoring network, which consists of soil samples collected from 2158 sites on a 16-km regular grid. Secondly, covariates were selected to map TP from spatially exhaustive datasets in France. The first approach explains 80% of variability in topsoil TP. The variables selected are linked to the autochthonous origin of P (parent material), to allochthonous origin (organic carbon and nitrogen contents) and to the retention capacity of soil (Al, Fe, Ca and clay contents). The predicted map obtained from the second approach provides a mean TP of 0.76g/kg. This study demonstrates that creating national scale maps of TP, based on detailed soil sampling and many variables, is feasible and can be used to model the P cycle and P transfer processes. Such maps can be used in P erosion and transfer models over river basins, and therefore to predict P exports to surface waters.

Nitrous Oxide Emissions from a Masson Pine Forest Soil in Subtropical Central China

The forest ecosystem plays a pivotal role in contributing greenhouse gases to the *** order to characterize the temporal pattern of nitrous oxide(N_2O) emissions and identify the key factors affecting N_2O emissions from a Masson pine forest in a hilly red-soil region in subtropical central China,we measured the N_2O emissions in Jinjing of Hunan Province using the static chambergas chromatographic method for 3 years(2010-2012) and analyzed the relationships between the N_2O fluxes and the environmental *** results revealed that the N_2O fluxes over the 3 years varied from-36.0 to 296.7 μg N m^(-2) h^(-1),averaging 18.4±5.6 μg N m^(-2) h^(-1)(n=3).The average annual N_2O emissions were estimated to be 1.6±0.3 kg N ha^(-1) year^(-1).The N_2O fluxes exhibited clear intra-annual(seasonal) variations as they were higher in summers and lower in *** with other forest observations in the subtropics,N_2O emissions at our site were relatively high,possibly due to the high local dry/wet N deposition,and were mostly sensitive to variations in precipitation and soil ammonium N *** this work,a multiple linear regression model was developed to determine the influence of environmental factors on N_2O emissions,in which a category predictor of "Season" was intentionally used to account for the seasonal variation of the N_2O *** a model explained almost 40%of the total variation in daily N_2O emissions from the Masson pine forest soil studied(P<0.001).

Effects of weather conditions during different growth phases on yield formation of winter oilseed rape

Winter oilseed rape (WOSR) is an important oil and protein crop in Europe, used in biofuel production and as protein source in livestock farming. In contrast to cereals, WOSR seed yields are still increasing in most countries but yield stability was not improved during the last decades. In our study, we analyzed the effects of weather conditions during different growth stages on maximum seed yield, maximum oil yield, number of seeds per m(2) and 1000-seed weight to get further information on yield formation processes. Field trials performed at 34 environments (site x year combinations) representing different soil characteristics and climate regions in Germany were used for the analysis. About 40% of seed yield variability could be explained by weather conditions during specific growth phases. The most important phenological phases thereby were: onset of pods and seeds (BBCH 50-65) and seed development (BBCH 71-79). During onset of pods and seeds, yield was significantly influenced by temperature, radiation and drought stress. Assimilate availability during this phase determines the number of seeds per m(2) (sink size). After flowering, only temperature significantly affected WOSR yield. Temperature is the major parameter determining the duration of growth stages. Lower temperature elongates the time of assimilate production and translocation to the seeds. During this growth stage, seed weight is determined. In our data sets, low sink size was not yield limiting due to compensatory effects between the yield components number of seeds per m(2) and 1000-seed weight. Yield response pattern suggests that WOSR yield is predominantly source-limited, especially during the late reproductive phase. (C) 2015 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Statistical modeling to women self-help groups of Odisha based on socio-economic developmental parameters in aquaculture

multiple linear regression analysis was performed to estimate the relative effect of nine independent variables, i.e., age of the women self-help groups (WSHGs), number of group members, monthly savings of the group, pond area, fish production, number of literate members, number of technical trained members, bank loan and profit on average financial contribution of a WSHG (the dependent variable), a primary factor for socioeconomic development of women. Socioeconomic data on 90 WSHGs were collected from 27 blocks of eight districts from four physiographic zones, namely Northern Plateau, Central River Basin, Eastern Hills and Coastal Plains of Odisha during 2008-2009. It is revealed from the study that in all the four physiographic zones of Odisha, bank loan and profit have significant positive effect on average financial contribution of a WSHG (p < 0.05). On the other hand, number of group members is a negative contributing factor (p < 0.05) which explains that with increase in members, amount of bank loan and profit is proportionately reduced per member. Three factors such as monthly group savings, pond area and number of literate members are significantly contributing to average financial contribution of a group in Coastal Plains (p < 0.05). As the WSHGs in Coastal Plains were more developed than the WSHGs in other three physiographic zones, the multiple linear regression model of Coastal Plains may be considered as a best fit model. The regression equation is expressed as = 1,746.876 - 125.763members + 1.295mogrsav + 313.730area + 449.373literate + 0.023loan (p < 0.05).

Weather conditions determine the variation in the floating population at tourist sites and, consequently, the number of persons who stay overnight;therefore, it is necessary to select those determinants that are most influenced by the weather. Our aim is to construct a multiple linear regression model and system based on big data processing tools to process large volumes of meteorological and population data with the ultimate goal of supporting predicted accommodation congestion with high prediction accuracy. First, we transform the floating population data into accommodation congestion by estimating the resident population during periods of high demand. Second, we conduct a multiple linear regression analysis with variable removal steps and a residual analysis. Moreover, to verify our regression model, we use two prediction accuracy measures: the mean absolute percentage error and the R-squared value. The final part of the paper describes the construction of a big data processing system that was built to compute the series of prediction operations.
