Uncontrolled hemorrhage remains the leading cause of death in clinical and emergency care,posing a major threat to human *** achieve effective bleeding control,many hemostatic materials have *** them,nature-derived biopolymers occupy an important position due to the excellent inherent biocompatibility,biodegradability and ***,sponges have been widely used in clinical and daily life because of their rapid blood ***,we provide the overview focusing on the latest advances and smart designs of biopolymer-based hemostatic *** from the component,the applications of polysaccharide and polypeptide in hemostasis are systematically introduced,and the unique bioactivities such as antibacterial,antioxidant and immunomodulation are also *** the perspective of sponge structure,different preparation processes can obtain unique physical properties and structures,which will affect the material properties such as hemostasis,antibacterial and tissue ***,as development frontier,the multifunctions of hemostatic materials is summarized,mainly including enhanced coagulation,antibacterial,avoiding tumor recurrence,promoting tissue repair,and hemorrhage ***,the challenges facing the development of biopolymer-based hemostatic sponges are emphasized,and future directions for in vivo biosafety,emerging materials,multiple application scenarios and translational research are proposed.

Nepenthes inspired superhydrophobic surfaces with multiple functions via femtosecond laser and chemical fluorination

Titanium alloys have great applications in the fields of medical devices, orthopedic implants and aerospace components due to their excellent physicochemical properties, and endowing their surface with super-hydrophobic properties is very necessary. Inspired by the wax crystals of Nepenthes, superhydrophobic microstructures on titanium alloy were designed and then fabricated via femtosecond laser ablation and chemical fluorination. This innovative method attributes a programmable laser micro-processing technique that realizes the facile fabrication of superhydrophobic microstructures with the advantages of simple design and multiple functions. The fabricated superhydrophobic surfaces achieved the contact angle of 163.45 degrees and the sliding angle of 5.13 degrees, and exhibited ultralow adhesion, good bouncing behaviors, excellent anti-icing capability and strong functional durability. Moreover, analyses based on experiment results demonstrated that the microstructure characteristics have a significant effect on the superhydrophobicity, and appropriate parameters can improve the superhydrophobic properties. Additionally, due to the insufficient accuracy and uncontrollability of femtosecond laser ablation, irregular pores resembled the wax crystals were fabricated which can cause the formation of stable air-film and accordingly enhances the superhydrophobicity, therefore becomes the crucial technique of this study. This study offers an innovative method for the fabrication of multi-functional superhydrophobic surfaces on titanium alloys, and promotes their applications in engineering fields.

Hydrogel Complex Electrospun Scaffolds and Their multiple functions in In Situ Vascular Tissue Engineering

Hydrogel complex scaffolds (hydrogel scaffolds) are prepared by coating precursor solutions onto heparin-modified poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCLH) scaffolds followed by subsequent in situ gelation. Here, we show that hydrogel complexation can significantly strengthen the scaffold and slow its degradation. The hydrogel scaffold was implanted into the abdominal aorta of a rat model, and the aneurysm incidence rate of the hydrogel scaffolds sharply decreased compared with that of the hydrogel-free scaffolds. Histological and immunohistological analyses showed that the implanted grafts had good vascular regeneration. The absence of calcification and occurrence of contractile smooth muscle cells (SMCs) at the first month was found in the hydrogel-free PCLH scaffold due to the presence of surface-modified heparin, whereas the hydrogel scaffold exhibited mild calcification and later occurrence of contractile SMCs as the complexed hydrogel covered the fibers and blocked the interaction between heparin and cells. Heparin was further physically encapsulated into the hydrogel before gelation, and its sustainable release was demonstrated by an in vitro release test. A pilot implantation in a rabbit carotid model showed that the encapsulated heparin modulated the scaffold characteristics including anticoagulation, anticalcification, and the early occurrence of contractile SMCs in vivo. Consequently, hydrogel complexation can significantly improve the in vivo regeneration property of the scaffold due to its multiple beneficial characteristics.

Lightweight and compressible anisotropic honeycomb-like graphene composites for highly tunable electromagnetic shielding with multiple functions

Lightweight and highly compressible macrocellular honeycomb-like graphene composites with anisotropic structure are fabricated by orderly assembling hollow porous macrotubes of reduced graphene oxide into an array structure and encapsulating them with polydimethylsiloxane. The architecture could not only show high comprehensive electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance up to similar to 14524 dB cm(2) g(-1), but also tune the shielding effectiveness (SE) (or R/A ratio) through adjusting either orientation direction or compressive strain, thus exhibiting broadened SE and R/A tuning range by integrating the two SE-tuning modes, which exceeds that of most reported lightweight porous EMI shields with tunable performance. Besides, it further possesses excellent piezoresistive sensing capability as well as outstanding anisotropic thermal-insulation and low voltage-driven Joule-heating functions, which can provide the ability to detect the physical impact and minimize the impact of extreme environments on electronic equipments during effective EMI shielding. The satisfactory performance of such architecture confirms that macrocellular structural design of nanomaterials is an effective way to develop high-performance and multifunctional EMI shields with convenient performance regulation.

One might think that after over 100 years of study we now know all there is to know about Hemoglobin and its function. However, the purpose of this review is to outline that this fascinating protein has still much to say in the field of biological modulation. Hence, we like to focus on a number of parallel functions of hemoglobin besides its basic function of oxygen transport. Among these we like to recall the following main functions: a) modulation of erythrocyte metabolism;b) Heme oxidation and erythrocytes senescence;c) resistance to malaria;d) molecular heat transducer e) Enzymatic activity;f) Hemorphins, carbon monoxide and nitric oxide.

Development of a 10-kV regional compensation dynamic voltage restorer with multiple functions

The first 10-kV regional compensation dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) has been installed in a 110-kV substation in Shenzhen power grid, to protect plenty of sensitive loads in a wide area simultaneously from the disturbances caused by voltage sags. The location selection and performance indicators of the DVR are determined based on the voltage sag statistic results in recent years of Shenzhen power grid. The implementation schemes of main circuit elements, such as the energy storage unit, inverter and LC filter are presented. To further improve the DVR's cost-effectiveness, a novel virtual impedance control strategy is proposed to provide the DVR with a function of a Fault Current Limiter (FCL) or a Series Compensator (SC) besides the function of voltage sag compensation. Simulation and field experimental results are provided to show the correctness and effectiveness of the main circuit design and control system development of the 10-kV DVR.

Limited research has focused on the considerations of assessing and treating multiple isolated functions of problematic behavior. This case study utilized traditional functional analysis procedures to identify the functions of the targeted problematic behavior and a multiple baseline across functional contexts design to evaluate a function-based treatment. The nuances of assessing and treating multiple isolated functions are discussed.

A Comparison of High and Low-Proficiency Mands During Functional Communication Training Across multiple functions of Problem Behavior

Proficiency is a mand-specific variable that has been shown to affect treatment outcomes during functional communication training (FCT;i.e., Ringdahl et al. in Research in Developmental Disabilities, 30, 330-341, 2009). Although Ringdahl et al. Research in Developmental Disabilities, 30, 330-341 (2009) showed mand proficiency was predictive of FCT effectiveness, the study targeted a single function of problem behavior. Thus, questions remain about the extent to which mand proficiency is consistent across mands related to multiple functions of problem behavior during both pre-treatment mand topography assessments and subsequent FCT. We assessed mand proficiency via mand topography assessments with individuals with autism and histories of engagement in multiply maintained problem behavior. The results suggested that mand proficiency pertaining to specific mand topographies varied across functions of problem behavior. Next, we conducted FCT using high and low-proficiency mands across all functions of problem behavior. Idiosyncratic results were observed within and across functions of problem behavior with both participants in terms of the effects of high and low-proficiency mand topographies. Implications are discussed in terms of FCT and the selection of mand topographies to target during FCT.

Pyrrole-Terminated Ionic Liquid Surfactant: One Molecule with multiple functions for Controlled Synthesis of Diverse Multispecies Co-Doped Porous Hollow Carbon Spheres

Rationally and efficiently controlling chemical composition, microstructure, and morphology of carbon nanomaterials plays a crucial role in significantly enhancing their functional properties and expending their applications. In this work, a novel strategy for simultaneously controlling these structural parameters was developed on the base of a multifunctional precursor approach, in which the precursor not only serves as carbon source and structure-directing agent, but also contains two heteroatom doping sites. As exemplified by using pyrrole-terminated ionic liquid surfactant as such precursor, in conjunction with sol-gel chemistry this strategy allows for efficiently producing well-defined hollow carbon spheres with controlled microstructure and chemical compositions. Remarkably, the dual-doping sites in confined silica channels provide an exciting opportunity and flexibility to access various doped carbons through simply anion exchange or altering the used oxidative polymerization agent, especially the multispecies codoped materials by combination of the two doping modes. All the results indicate that the described strategy may open up a new avenue for efficiently synthesizing functional carbon materials with highly controllable capability.

To meet the growing demands of high productivity, high flexibility and high accuracy in different manufacturing areas, a PC-based open CNC system architecture for multiple intelligent functions based on TwinCAT and. NET is proposed in this paper. The CNC system consists of NCK system, peripheral perception system, and. NET HMI system which communicate with each other by TwinCAT ADS and TCP/IP protocols. The NCK system with real-time tasks run on the real-time kernals provided by TwinCAT while the HMI system with non-real-time tasks running on the Microsoft CLR platform. Various functions such as code interpreter, feedrate planning, spindle vibration monitoring, and machine tool energy monitoring are integrated in the HMI system based on the COM component technology. An open 5-axis CNC system with NURBS interpolation, spindle vibration monitoring, energy consumption monitoring and MTConnect communication is developed. The experiment results validate the feasibility and applicability of this system.
