We develop a multi-objective stochastic programming model for supply chain design under uncertainty using a metaheuristic approach. This is a comprehensive model, which includes both the strategic and tactical levels. The uncertainty regarding demands, supplies, processing and transportation costs is captured by generating discrete scenarios with given probabilities of occurrence. To solve the problem, we use multi-objective simulated annealing and compare the results against the goal attainment technique. Numerical results show that the proposed metaheuristic approach is a very practical solution technique.

Transportation systems can be represented by graphs with travel weights accorded to each of the edges that represent the roads to be travelled. This paper gives brief introduction of the Euler's path and the description of Chinese postman problem. The said problem is then extended to multi-objective problem by considering multiple weights for each edge. Finally, this paper presents an algorithm to solve this multi-objective problem and implements the same on a biobjective Chinese postman problem.

Transportation problem (TP) is a very important area in operations research and management science. TPs not only involve with cost minimization, but also involve with many other goals such as profit maximization, time minimization, minimization of total deterioration of goods, etc. Also the available data of a transportation system such as transportation costs, resources, demands, conveyance capacities are not always crisp or precise but are uncertain. In this dissertation some transportation problems have been formulated and solved in different uncertain environments, e.g., fuzzy, type-2 fuzzy, rough and linguistic. Section 1 is introductory. Some basic concepts and definitions of fuzzy set, type-2 fuzzy set, rough set and variable are introduced in Sect. 2. In Sect. 3, we have formulated and solved two solid transportation problems (STPs) with fuzzy parameters namely a multi-objective STP with budget constraints and a multi-objective multi-item STP. Section 4 presents some theoretical developments related to type-2 fuzzy variables (T2 FVs) - a defuzzification method of T2 FVs and an interval approximation method of continuous T2 FVs. In this section, three transportation models with type-2 fuzzy parameters have been formulated and solved. In Sect. 5, we have presented two transportation mode selection problems with linguistic evaluations represented by fuzzy variables and interval type-2 fuzzy variables respectively. Here we have developed two fuzzy multi-criteria group decision making methods and these methods are applied to solve the respective mode selection problems. Section 6 presents a practical solid transportation model considering per trip capacity for each type of conveyances. Also in this problem fluctuating cost parameters are represented by rough variables. Rough chance constrained programming model, rough expected value model and rough dependent-chance programming model are used to solve the problem with rough cost parameters.

In this work a Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm is developed in order to obtain an appropriate ensemble of neural networks. The algorithm does not use any back-propagation method. Furthermore, it considers directly the classification error instead of the mean square error. To obtain the multiobjective environment, the training pattern set is divided into subsets such that each one has its own error function and then, all the error functions are considered simultaneously. The proposed algorithm is found to be competitive with other current methods in the literature.

According to the laid problem of photovoltaic cells, first of all, we need to divide the wall which laid photovoltaic cells into pieces to lay more photovoltaic cells;Secondly, to make total electricity generation maximize and unit electricity generation cost as little as we can, we established the 0-1 multi-objective programming model;Thirdly, aiming at lowest cost, the inverter configuration optimization model is established;Finally, we modeling to the instance of the solar house design, and obtained reasonable scheme of the solution of photovoltaic battery lying and inverter configuration.

Technology roadmaps have already been widely adopted as an important management tool during the past three decades after the invention of the management tool by Motorola in the 1980s. The technology road-mapping processes which can be integrated with firms' competence sets are very important for strategy definitions. However, how the uncertainties being associated with the costs, time, quality, etc. for technology road mapping were seldom discussed, not to mention how various objectives can be considered at the same time. Thus, this research aims to propose a fuzzy multiple objective programming based competence set expansion technique to resolve the above mentioned technology road-mapping problem. An empirical study based on the road-mapping of novel compressors for air conditioners will be used to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed framework. The well-verified analytic framework can serve as a basis for research and development (R&D) strategy definitions by practitioners.

A large number of available solutions to choose from poses a significant challenge for multiple criteria decision making. This research develops a methodology that reduces the set of efficient solutions under consideration. This dissertation is composed of three major parts: (i) the formalization of a theoretical framework; (ii) the development of a solution approach; and (iii) a case study application of the methodology. In the first part, the problem is posed as a multiobjective optimization over the efficient set and considers secondary robustness criteria when the exact values of decision variables are subjected to uncertainties during implementation. The contributions are centered at the modeling of uncertainty directly affecting decision variables, the use of robustness to provide additional trade-off analysis, the study of theoretical bounds on the measures of robustness, and properties to ensure that fewer solutions are identified. In the second part, the problem is reformulated as a biobjective mixed binary program and the secondary criteria are generalized to any convenient linear functions. A solution approach is devised in which an auxiliary mixed binary program searches for unsupported Pareto outcomes and a novel linear programming filtering excludes any dominated solutions in the space of the secondary criteria. Experiments show that the algorithm tends to run faster than existing approaches for mixed binary programs. The algorithm enables dealing with continuous Pareto sets, avoiding discretization procedures common to the related literature. In the last part, the methodology is applied in a case study regarding the electricity generation capacity expansion problem in Texas. While water and energy are interconnected issues, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to consider both water and cost objectives. We present an integral approach to solving multiple criteria decision problems in sequences of intelligence, modeling, choice and review phases, often iterated, to identify the most preferred decision variant. The approach taken is human-centric, with the user taking the final decision being a sole and sovereign actor in the decision making process. To ensure generality, no assumption about the Decision Maker preferences or behavior is made. Likewise, no specific assumption about the underlying formal model is made. The intended goal of the approach is to lower the cognitive barrier related to unsupported use of multicriteria methodologies in day-to-day practice. We present successful application of this approach to a number of practical problems.

Solving voting system by data envelopment analysis for assessing sustainability of suppliers

Recently, sustainable supply chain management has attracted the attention of scholars and practitioners. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a useful tool for evaluating sustainability of suppliers. Ranking a system of voting is an important topic in DEA. Many firms apply voting systems to rank candidates. Generally, these kinds of methods rank candidates by their associated weights. In this paper, to increase discrimination power among candidates, a novel model for obtaining a suitable value of discriminating factor is proposed. Then, using the optimal value of the discriminating factor, a new model for calculating preference scores of candidates is presented. This model evaluates candidates based on different set of weights. To evaluate candidates based on common set of weights, using concept of ideal point, two new multiple objective programming models are proposed. The proposed method is applied for selecting the most sustainable suppliers that supply self-supporting cable for a power distribution company. Results show that candidates might be affected by changing the set of weights. Using our proposed models, full rankings are obtained.
