Efficient reduction of peak-to-average power ratio in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing system by shuffling cluster sequences

We propose a shuffling cluster sequence technique without separate side information (SI) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In the proposed technique, the active subcarriers over two consecutive OFDM symbols are divided into 2V$$ 2V $$ clusters, and each cluster (packet frame) includes a header for ID#cluster and payload for Data#cluster$$ Data\# cluster $$. The 2V$$ 2V $$ clusters are shuffled to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the time-domain OFDM signal, which includes the information data and SI signals, with a low computational complexity. At the receiver, the information data can be correctly reconstructed by ID#cluster in the header of each cluster, achieving a smaller bit error rate than the conventional MIMO-OFDM system without PAPR reduction. Moreover, our technique is comparable with the conventional partial transmit sequence technique without the impact of a separate SI signal even when increasing the number of transmitter antennas in a nonlinear multipath fading channel.

A combinatorial precoding scheme of cell-free massive MIMO with channel aging

Here, we investigate the precoding schemes for the downlink data transmission of a time-division duplex cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with channel aging, which arises from the user mobility. Closed-form spectral efficiency (SE) expressions of the downlink with the normalized conjugate beamforming (NCB), and the full-pilot zero-forcing (FZF), are derived, which are used for the analytical system performance evaluation. Then, a novel combinatorial precoding scheme with enhanced system SE performance, which adopts either NCB or FZF according to each user channel aging condition, is proposed. Moreover, a pilot allocation strategy is proposed to alleviate the extra interference brought by the combinatorial precoding scheme. Also, a statistical channel cooperative power control is employed to further improve the performance for all the above precoding schemes. Numerical results show that the proposed precoding scheme can substantially improve the average downlink SE.

MMV-Based Sequential AoA and AoD Estimation for Millimeter Wave MIMO Channels

The fact that the millimeter-wave (mmWave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel has sparse support in the spatial domain has motivated recent compressed sensing (CS)-based mmWave channel estimation methods, where the angles of arrivals (AoAs) and angles of departures (AoDs) are quantized using angle dictionary matrices. However, the existing CS-based methods usually obtain the estimation result through one-stage channel sounding that have two limitations: (i) the requirement of large-dimensional dictionary and (ii) unresolvable quantization error. These two drawbacks are irreconcilable;improvement of the one implies deterioration of the other. To address these challenges, we propose, in this paper, a two-stage method to estimate the AoAs and AoDs of mmWave channels. In the proposed method, the channel estimation task is divided into two stages, Stage I and Stage II. Specifically, in Stage I, the AoAs are estimated by solving a multiple measurement vectors (MMV) problem. In Stage II, based on the estimated AoAs, the receive sounders are designed to estimate AoDs. The dimension of the angle dictionary in each stage can be reduced, which in turn reduces the computational complexity substantially. We then analyze the successful recovery probability (SRP) of the proposed method, revealing the superiority of the proposed framework over the existing one-stage CS-based methods. We further enhance the reconstruction performance by performing resource allocation between the two stages. We also overcome the unresolvable quantization error issue present in the prior techniques by applying the atomic norm minimization method to each stage of the proposed two-stage approach. The simulation results illustrate the substantially improved performance with low complexity of the proposed two-stage method.

Data-driven optimal PEMFC temperature control via curriculum guidance strategy-based large-scale deep reinforcement learning

As the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a nonlinear, time-varying, multiple-input multiple-output system, an advanced controller with strong robustness and adaptability is required for controlling PEMFC stack temperature and achieve a high operation efficiency. In this paper, a data driven optimal controller is proposed for controlling the stack temperature, which is based on large-scale deep reinforcement learning. In addition, a new deep reinforcement learning algorithm termed curriculum guidance strategy large-scale dual-delay deep deterministic policy gradient (CGS-L4DPG) algorithm is proposed for this controller. The design of this algorithm introduces the concepts of the curriculum guidance strategy and imitation learning, and its inclusion improves the performance and robustness of the proposed controller. The simulation results show that, taking advantage of the high adaptability and robustness of CGS-L4DPG algorithm, the proposed controller can more effectively control the PEMFC stack temperature than existing control algorithms.

Automatic modulation classification using bimodal parallel multichannel deep learning framework for spatial multiplexing MIMO system

In recent years, automatic modulation classification (AMC) has proved its importance for the military as well as civil applications and deep learning (DL) based AMC has attracted wide attention. But existing methods neglect to consider the advantages of both multimodality and complementarities simultaneously in a single DL framework for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. To mitigate this, bimodal multichannel configurable DL-based AMC has been presented for the MIMO system under perfect channel state information with zero forcing equalizer. The proposed DL framework consists of two parallel structures of multichannel convolutional layers in which one multichannel structure is fed with in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) as first modal information while another multichannel structure accepts amplitude/phase as second modal information. Features extracted from this parallel structure then pass through long short-term memory (LSTM) layers for further extracting temporal information effectively. Finally, classification is accomplished through fully connected layers. Simulation results manifest the robustness of the proposed framework that achieves an average accuracy of about 0.6% to 12% higher compared to the state-of-the-art DL models. Advanced lifting wavelet transform and V-degree polynomial-based channel estimation in MIMO-GFDM

The future generation of wireless communications systems uses the generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) due to its viable candidate waveform to perform multiple user scheduling. It is a non-orthogonal waveform susceptible to intercarrier and intersymbol interference (ISI);still, it offers flexible pulse shaping that enhances the efficiency of user scheduling. Here, to accomplish spatial diversity, the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is incorporated with GFDM to enhance the performance;there is also an extra inter-antenna interference problem that limits the model's performance. The issue concerning inter-antenna interference can be resolved by adopting pilot-based information transfer. The detection of a signal at the receiver based on the minimum mean square error has the issue of computational complexity while enhancing the estimation quality of a detector. Hence, a low-complexity channel estimation technique is proposed in this research using the V-degree polynomial-based channel estimation technique, wherein the cubic order computation is reduced to square order. Also, the proposed adaptive pulse shaping technique, wherein the filter coefficient is optimized using the gazelle optimization algorithm (GOA) to provide optimal pulse shaping filter parameters by employing bit error rate (BER) as the objective function. The performance of a proposed V-degree polynomial-based channel estimation is analyzed based on various assessment measures like BER and MSE and acquired the minimal values of 5.75E-05 and 2.07E-05, respectively. Spatial modulation (SM) is a simple multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication technique in which a single transmit antenna is active for each symbol period. Quadrature spatial modulation (QSM), on the other hand, is a form of SM in which independent transmit antenna selection is made for the real and imaginary parts of the symbols. In these techniques, the spectral efficiency (SE) can be increased logarithmically by increasing the number of antennas used on the transmitterside. Besides, in classical SM and QSM schemes, the number of antennas must be the power of two. In this paper, a flexible QSM scheme is proposed, which eliminates the necessity of antenna number and increases SE value linearly with the number of antennas for RF systems. This scheme, called hardware aware quadrature spatial modulation (HAQSM), uses optimized constellations for the desired SE value. Optimal constellations are obtained using convex optimization under a constraint aimed at keeping the distance between neighboring symbols above the desired value. The bit error rate (BER) performances of the HAQSM scheme were obtained by Monte Carlo simulations and compared with the existing schemes in the literature.

Optimized Neuro-Adaptive Twin Pulse-Coupled Estimators for Efficient Channel Estimation in Heterogeneous 5G MIMO-OFDM Communication systems

Optimal performance in 5G and beyond MIMO-OFDM systems is achieved by channel estimation, which is crucial due to the enormous hurdles posed by dynamic and frequency-selective channel circumstances. Advanced methods of neural networks and optimization are gradually being applied in order to solve these difficulties. The heterogeneous nature of 5G-and-beyond networks introduces severe multipath fading, high mobility, and interference, complicating accurate Channel State Information (CSI) estimation. Existing techniques are sometimes difficult to compute efficiently while at the same time providing a precise estimation of interference in such scenarios. This research develops an Optimized Neuro-Adaptive Twin Pulse-Coupled Estimators for Efficient Channel Estimation in Heterogeneous 5G-and-Beyond MIMO-OFDM Communication systems (STEB-Twin-APCNet) to improve the channel estimation by integrating Twin Adaptive Pulse Coupled Network with Sooty Tern Evolutionary Boost optimization. The objective of this study is to design and optimize a neuro-adaptive channel estimator capable of real-time CSI acquisition with high accuracy and minimal complexity in diverse 5G environments. To test the model in different channel scenarios, MATLAB simulations were run with the help of deep learning and 5G toolboxes. The results show that the suggested STEB-Twin-APCNet outperforms the standard approaches with a channel estimate accuracy of over 99.8%, dependability of 99.5% in high-mobility situations, and a decrease of 99.3% in estimation error. These measures demonstrate how efficient and resilient the system is. As a result, channel prediction for next-gen wireless networks is made easier using this adaptive framework.

Beamforming and combining for multi-user large MIMO communication system

A beamforming and combining method for a multi-user large multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is proposed, in this study. A transmitter is equipped with a very large number of antennas to serve many users. At the transmitter, a group of antennas is allocated to each user. For a particular group of antennas, a specific beamforming vector is employed at the transmitter for transmission of a signal of a specific user. At the user end, a distinct combining vector is utilised for detecting the transmitted signal. In the proposed scheme, first, the interference due to unwanted signals of undesired users is nullified by using the concept of null space. Then the method of maximum ratio transmission is used to calculate the beamforming vector. The calculation of combining vector depends upon the maximum eigenvalue criterion. The analytical performance of the proposed method is discussed in terms of symbol error rate (SER). An expression of SER is derived by using the moment generating function approach. It is shown by simulations and analysis that the proposed scheme performs better if more antennas are equipped either at the transmitter or users.
