Multiphysics Coupling Model of Flexible multisensor system Based on MEMS Beam Structure

To meet the requirements of parameter test-ing under special environments, we conduct research onmultiparameter integrated sensors. This article proposes aflexible multisensor system based on MEMS beam struc-tures, which utilizes MEMS double-clamped beam andMEMS V-shaped beam to test two parameters of curva-ture and threshold temperature. Due to the interferencebetween loading temperature and loading curvature dur-ing the testing of the multisensor system, a multiphysicscoupling model of the system is established to analyze themutual effect between the two sensors under the loadingof temperature and curvature. Multiple sensors have beendesigned and fabricated on flexible liquid crystal polymers(LCPs) substrate, and the effects of substrate bendingand temperature variation on sensor performance testingare characterized. The experimental results of the curva-ture sensor are consistent with the theoretical predictionswithin a maximum error of 6.81%. When the ambient tem-perature is below the threshold temperature, the curvaturesensitivity is 5.2 MHz/m-1and the influence of ambienttemperature on curvature testing is negligible. When theambient temperature reaches the threshold temperature,the curvature sensitivity is 5.4 MHz/m-1The experimentalresults of the threshold temperature sensor agree with thetheoretical predictions within a maximum error of 9.68%when substrate curvature varies. The resonant frequencyoffset of the substrate in a flat state is 350 MHz at thethreshold temperature.

RUL Prediction and Uncertainty Management for multisensor system Using an Integrated Data-Level Fusion and UPF Approach

Due to the fact that single sensor data contains only partial information about complex systems, multiple sensors are often embedded to simultaneously monitor the health state and predict the remaining useful life (RUL). This brings new challenges to traditional approaches that focus on single sensor in terms of data fusion, optimization, and uncertainty management. To address these challenges, this article proposes a novel RUL prediction and uncertainty management framework for multisensor systems. In this framework, a composite 1-D health indicator (1-D HI) is obtained from multiple sensors by optimizing some HI characteristics, including monotonicity, robustness, fitting error, and range information, to better describe the underlying degradation process. A multiobjective grasshopper optimization algorithm is used to achieve the optimal weight vector of the fusion model. Then, an unscented particle filter is introduced to predict the RUL by combining the degradation model constructed from HI and the composite 1-D HI as measurement. To manage the uncertainty in prognosis, a probability distribution of failure threshold and noise parameter adjustment are developed. Experimental results on aircraft turbine engine degradation and comparison with state-of-the-art methods are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework in RUL prediction of multisensor systems.

A potentiometric multisensor system, composed of 12 cross-sensitive sensors, is proposed for uranium and thorium quantification in multi-component mixtures simulating PUREX process tailing solutions. Various ligands with high extraction capacity to lanthanides and actinides were used as active compounds in plasticized polymeric sensor membranes. The sensitivity of the individual sensors to tetra- and hexavalent actinides (UO22+ and Th4+) in aqueous nitric acid solutions with pH = 2 has been studied for the first time. The sensors with pronounced sensitivity to actinides were comprised into the multisensor system that was applied for UO22+ and Th4+ quantitative determination in presence of each other and lanthanides cations (La3+, Pr3+, Sm3+, Gd3+, Yb3+). The nitric acid quantification in the set of mixtures with UO22+ and La3+ was also performed using the same system. Projection on latent structures (PLS) algorithm was used for multivariate regression models calculation. The results of PLS models validation with independent test set show the possibility of UO22+ and Th4+ quantification with mean relative error (MRE) equal to 17% and 14% correspondingly, and HNO3 quantification with MRE = 7%. This accuracy is appropriate for real-time technological control of PUREX process.

Calibration of multisensor systems (MSS) with linear response usually involves some form of regression analysis, e.g. ordinary least square regression (OLSR) or ridge regression (RR), between n(c) calibration combinations of ni measurands (loads) applied to the system and the corresponding signals extracted from its n(s) sensors. The selection of a suitable n(c) is delicate, especially with redundant systems, where n(s) > n(1). Furthermore, the effectiveness of regularization critically depends on the value of n(1) and n(c) with respect to n and adds effort, e.g., by the necessity to identify an optimal regularization parameter a in RR. This work addresses these trade-offs. A numerical study was used to identify the relevant features of MSS calibration and to formulate general conclusions applicable to redundant MSS. The minimally required number of calibration load cases is n(1). For n(1) < n(c) < n(s), OLSR achieves reasonably high measurement accuracies for n(c) approximate to (n(l) + n(s))/2. An unfavorable case is n(c) = n(s) where OLSR fails due to overfitting, which can be cured by RR. A validation study is carried out using a force/moment transducer with n(s) = 32 and n(1) = 6. As expected, RR improves the accuracy of the measured moments m(x), m(y), and m(z) comparison to OLSR, namely by respective factors of 45, 12 and 40.

This paper presents a novel approach of cross-sensitivity compensation in a fully integrated CMOS Hall magnetic multisensor system. Parasitic changes of the magnetic sensitivity due to temperature change and package stress as well as their cross-combination are effectively compensated in a single step in the digital domain combining signals from Hall, temperature, and stress sensors. Over a full load profile of temperature cycles between -40 degrees C and 125 degrees C, humid-to-dry packages, and external forces up to 30 N we achieved the stabilization of the magnetic sensitivity to 1 +/- 0.004.

Quantification of immobilized protein in pharmaceutical production by bio-assisted potentiometric multisensor system

Quantification of proteins is a key biochemical assay in molecular biology, biotechnology, medicine and pharmacology. Protein quantification protocols can be based on spectrophotometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, mass spectrometry or quantitative immunoblotting depending on analyte. In case of immobilized protein these methods require suitable sample preparation. Thus, sophisticated analysis becomes even more complex, expensive and time-consuming. Such drawbacks are highly undesirable in industry. In this study we propose a new approach for evaluation of immobilized protein concentration based on application of bio-assisted potentiometric multisensor system. Surface-immobilized recombinant protein A from Staphylococcus aureus (SpA, expressed in Escherichia coli), which is commonly used as affinity ligand immobilized to stationary phase (chromatography media) for monoclonal antibody purification was employed as the model object. Chromatography media samples containing different amounts of immobilized SpA were analyzed. Proteinase K from Tritirachium album was employed as a bio-transducer. We demonstrated that the suggested approach provides information about immobilized SpA concentration with 0.8 mg/ml accuracy in the range 1-6.7 mg/ml and within just 16 min. Moreover, the proposed procedure requires no expensive materials and equipment and no bio-transducer immobilization. This method has potential of application for fast monitoring of other immobilized proteins in different tasks. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The paper describes a wide-range practical application of the potentiometric multisensor system (MS) (1) for integral safety evaluation of a variety of natural waters at multiple locations, under various climatic conditions and anthropogenic stress and (2) for close to real consistency evaluation of waste water purification processes at urban water treatment plants. In total, 25 natural surface water samples were collected around St. Petersburg (Russia), analyzed as is, and after ultrasonic treatment. Toxicity of the samples was evaluated using bioassay and MS. Relative errors of toxicity assessment with MS in these samples were below 20%. The system was also applied for fast determination of integral water quality using chemical oxygen demand (COD) values in 20 samples of water from river and ponds in Kolkata (India) and performed with an acceptable precision of 20% to 22% in this task. Furthermore, the MS was applied for fast simultaneous evaluation of COD, biochemical oxygen demand, inorganic phosphorous, ammonia, and nitrate nitrogen at two waste water treatment plants (over 320 samples). Reasonable precision (within 25%) of such analysis is acceptable for rapid water safety evaluation and enables fast control of the purification process. MS proved to be a practicable analytical instrument for various real-world tasks related to water safety monitoring.

A multisensor system for the Characterization of the Field Pressure in Terrain. Accuracy, Response, and Adjustments

In different disciplines of science, the knowledge of the resulting pressures in the subsoil can help to understand physical phenomena of mass exchange between the atmosphere and the terrain. The measurement of lower differential pressures is complicated given the low range of detected values. In this paper, a multisensor system has been designed and developed to measure differential pressures in radon gas transport studies. The adequacy of this system has been proven using a purpose-built pressure chamber and an automatic motion system developed by the authors. The temporal response frequencies, the pressure values measured by the sensors, and their ability to link in series were analyzed to offer a multisensor spatial and temporal mapping. At the same time, the influence of the components required for a real deployment were studied using different tube lengths and diameters, connectors, and obstructions across the operating range of the pressure sensors. The system has also been tested for measuring differential pressures in a real model with a concrete slab above the soil and a pressure generator system below. It was found that this system is very suitable for outdoor measurements that demand a quick temporal response and accuracy.

A Potentiometric multisensor system of Anion-Selective Electrodes Based on Ionic Liquids

The possibility of using solid-state and liquid PVC-membrane electrodes based on ionic liquids to design a potentiometric multisensor system is assessed. Ionic liquids with 1,3-dihexadecylimidazolium cation and chloride, bromide, iodide, and nitrate anions are used. The sensitivity parameters of the sensors are determined. A multisensor array is applied to detect chloride and iodide anions in the multicomponent mixture. The designed system is used to discriminate between mineral waters of different compositions by applying the method of principal component analysis (PCA).

State estimation in a decentralized discrete time LQG control for a multisensor system

In the paper a state filtration in a decentralized discrete time Linear Quadratic Gaussian problem formulated for a multisensor system is considered. Local optimal control laws depend on global state estimates and are calculated by each node. In a classical centralized information pattern the global state estimators use measurements data from all nodes. In a decentralized system the global state estimates are computed at each node using local state estimates based on local measurements and values of previous controls, from other nodes. In the paper, contrary to this, the controls are not transmitted between nodes. It leads to nonconventional filtration because the controls from other nodes are treated as random variables for each node. The cost for the additional reduced transmission is an increased filter computation at each node.
