Redundancy analysis for zone target multivariable control system

This paper proposes a redundancy analysis method for zone control systems. The zone target gradually expands the control margin of the system, and the margin is not fully utilized to improve control performance. At the same time, under the zone target, the modification of the set point has no significant optimization effect. In this respect, prioritizing the use of input channels to optimize the economic benefits of the system has become a primary consideration. A redundancy search algorithm for this framework is proposed. Using convex combination theory, the convex set of infinite elements is represented as a set of finite elements. Combined with the system steady-state mapping, the search problem is transformed into a traversal problem with a limited number of elements. The algorithm can identify the redundant input channels of the system offline and can ensure that the redundant channels will not interfere with the control targets of the system when they are actively changed within a certain range. A method of utilizing redundant input channels and the reliability and effectiveness of the algorithm have been verified through numerical simulation experiments.

This paper presents the development of a multi-variable control system for regulation of the physical quantities associated to the fouling phenomena on an experimental platform. This platform is considered as a two-by-two system, i.e., the voltage and current as the inputs system and the flow and pressure as the outputs system. In the Matlab scripts, the plant model was identified as a set of first-order or second-order systems with dead time. Furthermore, the Relative Gain Array (RGA) and Relative Normalized Gain Array (RNGA) were calculated to find the best pairing among loops. The diagonal and off-diagonal pairings were verified by means of PI/PID decentralized controllers, which were designed using the IMC tuning method. At last, the output control performance was evaluated using the ISE performance metric.

Conventional control system design, via the classical concepts of gain and phase stability margins and damping ratios, continues to be a principal design approach. This paper discusses the automation of the conventional control system design process using nonlinear programming. Examples are given for three aerospace vehicles. Modern control theory, including the Linear Quadratic Regulator methods, offers advantages when designing multivariable systems. However, conventional control system design can easily include multivariable systems when nonlinear programming techniques are applied. With nonlinear programming, engineering problems can be solved directly;i.e., the problem does not have to be fit into a canonical form. © 1985 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc., All rights reserved.

Synthesis of a multivariable control system with Variable Structure for a Six-Link Manipulator

A control system for a robot-manipulator is synthesised on the base of a feedback presenting the gripper location and the approach vector which can be software-implemented by means of solving the problems of direct kinematics and multivariable control in a class of variable structure systems. That enables not to regard the inverse kinematics problems. Taking into account deviations of the actual manipulator parameters from the prescribed ones when solving the direct kinematics problem or using a sensor for the manipulator gripper location considerably increase the dynamic accuracy of the robot manipulations. That is confirmed by experiments with the industrial robot PUMA 560.

It is shown that the stability of a class of linear multivariable control systems with delays can be determined by checking the stabilities of single-loop systems if the systems possess a diagonal dominance property. It is further shown that the stability result leads to a method of synthesizing decentralized stabilizing servo controllers for a class of large scale systems with time-delays.

A multivariable control system that is a part of an integrated, computer-based machinery control system is installed on board a 285000 tdw tanker. Experiences with the installation and operation of the multivariable control system will be presented, and a comparison between the multivariable system and the conventional back-up controller will be made. This paper is a natural continuation of an article which appeared in Automatica 12 , pp. 211–224 titled ‘The design of a multivariable control system for a ship boiler’.

Output decoupling is achieved for the longitudinal control system of an aircraft which is required to perform a number of maneuvers. The aircraft is represented by state and output equations and the matrix product CB is rank deficient, thus additional measurements are used to achieve a controllable system. In order to achieve tracking, the system uses output feedback and a digital proportional plus integral controller. Proper selection of the measurement matrix leads to an asymptotically decoupled system transfer function as the sampling frequency increases.

A Loop Pairing Method for Non-Linear multivariable control systems Under a Multi-Objective Optimization Approach

In the multivariable control literature there are few techniques that face the problem of selecting suitable loop pairings in non-linear multivariable systems. Most techniques analyze the linearized system at a specific operating point. This paper proposes a new methodology to optimally and simultaneously select the loop pairings and the tuning of the parameters of the decentralized control by applying a multi-objective optimization approach directly on the non-linear system. The main contribution of this work is that the proposed methodology enables a detailed multi-dimensional analysis of the performances and trade-offs in the available loop pairings to control a multivariable non-linear system. The methodology is applied in this paper to three examples that analyze how the different types of loop pairings conflict. In one of the examples, the proposed methodology was applied first in the linearized system and later in the non-linear system. The results were contradictory and show how the application of loop pairing techniques for linear systems can be inaccurate when they are applied on a non-linear system previously linearized at an operating point. The following examples show that the operating point of a non-linear system, the design objectives of each multi-objective problem, as well as the designer's preferences have important roles in the selection of an optimal loop pairing.

Modeling and control of ball mill system considering coal moisture

This study analyzes the dynamic characteristics of duplex inlet and outlet ball mill direct firing pulverizing system. A mass and energy balance-based model is built by thermodynamic analysis. As a critical parameter in pulverized coal humidity control, coal moisture is considered in the mechanism model, and an extended Kalman filter is designed to estimate the coal moisture. A multivariable control system is designed using extended state space predictive controller. The dynamic characteristic of the mill can be effectively forecasted using the established model. The system can rapidly track unit load changes while reducing the disturbance caused by coal moisture and other outlets. (C) 2016 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
