Event-triggered fuzzy output feedback fault-tolerant control for interval type-2 Takagi-Sugeno large-scale systems with time delays

The event-triggered output feedback fault-tolerant control problem is studied in this paper for interval type-2 Takagi-Sugeno (IT2 T-S) fuzzy large-scale systems with time delays. First, a fuzzy state observer is designed to address the immeasurable states problem. Then, by introducing a discrete event-triggered mechanism, an observer-based event-triggered fuzzy decentralized controller with dynamic parameters is synthesized in the presence of actuator faults based on the nonparallel distribution compensation (PDC) design principle. The sufficient conditions of asymptotic stability for the closed-loop systems are derived by constructing an appropriate dynamic parameter based Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional candidate. Finally, a simulation example is provided to verify the feasibility of the developed fuzzy control method.

Stimulated by the enhancing requirements for system safety as well as process reliability in complex industrial processes, this paper investigates a data-driven fault detection and fault-tolerant control scheme for large-scale systems. To this end, a pair-wise decomposition approach is first presented based on the inclusion principle, which expands the original large-scale system into a set of disjointed pair-wise subsystems. Then, for the pair-wise subsystems, the observer-based residual generators and observer-based state feedback controllers for fault detection and fault-tolerant control purpose are further developed in a decentralized way. On this basis, the fault-tolerant controller for the original large-scale system is obtained by the coordination and contraction of the decentralized observer-based state feedback controllers. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme are demonstrated through the case study on a multi-area interconnected power system.

Research on photovoltaic energy storage micro-grid systems based on improved sliding mode control

In islanded microgrid systems, PV power generation efficiency and energy loss of storage battery are the current research trends. Due to the intermittent and fluctuating characteristics of PV power generation, various loads connected to the DC microgrid system would also bring DC bus voltage low-frequency fluctuations and other problems. In order to solve the above problems, an maximum power point tracking (MPPT) tracking strategy (sliding mode control based on squirrel search algorithm) is proposed in this study;meanwhile, a sliding mode control strategy based on an improved reaching law is designed. The components of the PV energy storage system and the control method are mainly focused on, and the PV energy storage system is optimized by improving the sliding mode control. The proposed control algorithm is verified and analyzed by MATLAB/Simulink simulation platform. Compared with the double integral sliding mode control algorithm MPPT tracking case, sliding mode control based on squirrel search algorithm shows excellent performance (short response time, good tracking maximum power point effect etc.). In addition, the sliding mode control based on the proposed reaching law reduces the system jitter, and effectively reduces jitter and vibration of the PV energy storage battery.

Attack detection and fault-tolerant control of interconnected cyber-physical systems against simultaneous replayed time-delay and false-data injection attacks

Nowadays, interconnected cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are widely used with increasing deployments of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. Other than operating properly under system uncertainties, CPSs should be secured under unwanted adversaries. To mark such challenges, this paper proposes the solution of secure decentralized robust control for uncertain CPSs under replayed time-delay and false-data injection attacks altogether. Potentially, considered attacks can force the whole system to instability and crash. Three challenges are addressed, and solutions are presented: (1) model non-linearity and uncertainties, (2) existing simultaneous time-delay and potential false-data injection attacks with skew probability density functions, and (3) requirement to use real-time attack detection. Thus, a novel, robust control method to deal with thwart attacks on a closed-loop control system is proposed to provide the system's trustworthiness. Additionally, novel attack detection methodologies are presented to detect these advanced attacks rapidly based on statistical methods such as Spearman's correlation coefficient, Neyman-Pearson (NP) error classification, and trend analysis. Ultimately, the proposed novel attack detection and robust control protocol are verified and evaluated in real-time.

Dissipativity-based adaptive integral sliding mode control of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy descriptor systems

This paper focuses on the problem of adaptive integral sliding mode control (ISMC) with dissipativity for a type of complex non-linear system represented by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy descriptor models. First, T-S fuzzy descriptor systems with different derivative matrices are transformed into augmented systems that have the same properties as the original systems, and an integral sliding mode surface function is designed considering the descriptor matrices. Then, based on the dissipativity theory and the non-parallel distributed compensation (non-PDC) method, ISMC strategies and dissipativity-based ISMC strategies are proposed, and the system uncertainties and external disturbances with unknown upper bounds are addressed with an adaptive controller. According to the Lyapunov theory and the dissipativity theory, a fuzzy Lyapunov function is designed, and the obtained criteria are presented in the form of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs);this approach guarantees that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable and strictly (Q,R,S)-alpha$(\mathcal{Q},\mathcal{R},\mathcal{S}) - {{\alpha}}$ dissipative. Moreover, the controller gain matrices and Lyapunov matrices are decoupled by introducing the corresponding auxiliary variables and employing Finsler's lemma. Finally, two examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and merit of the proposed method.

Nonlinear finite-time control of hydroelectric systems via a novel sliding mode method

A nonlinear finite-time sliding mode control is proposed in this paper for the governing of complex hydroelectric systems with the finite/fixed setting time. The proposed control method is derived from the finite-time stability and sliding mode control theories. The finite settling time is calculated and bounded, not depending on the initial conditions of the system. The solution trajectory of the controlled hydroelectric system can reach the sliding manifold in a fixed settling time, regardless of initial values. Based on the Lyapunov theory, the controlled hydroelectric system also converges to a reference state within the fixed settling time. A simulation of a high-dimensional hydroelectric system verifies the feasibility of the proposed method. In addition, a comparison between the proposed method and the conventional PID method demonstrates the advantages of the proposed method in the shorter settling time and smaller overshoot. The proposed control method allows for the design of a flexible controller and provides an improvement in dynamic performance.

control of switched systems with delayed states: A direct AFSMC approach

This research focuses on controlling a class of MIMO state-delayed nonlinear systems with switching conditions that depend on the delayed states. The key concept is to consider the dynamic changes brought by switching between sub-systems as an uncertainty bounded by a certain polynomial of the delayed states norm. The challenge of managing a delayed switched system is changed to the simpler problem of controlling a delayed non-switched system via an extended AFSMC approach with just one sliding surface. New adaptation laws are proposed within the general framework of the direct AFSMC scheme to estimate unknown coefficients of the uncertainty bound polynomial and parameters of a central fuzzy controller, which mimics the behavior of a feedback linearized controller in the conventional SMC approach. Using the method of multiple lyapunov-krasovskii functions (MLKF), closed-loop stability is proven. Several examples are elaborated to show the effectiveness of the method compared to the previously proposed no-delay AFSMC method and also to the conventional feedback linearization approach. In particular, the proposed control scheme is applied to a benchmark high-speed super cavitation underwater vehicle. The efficacy of the proposed method is depicted, while minimal information about the plant dynamics is needed in the control design stage.

Interaction assessment in multivariable control systems through causality analysis

multivariable control systems are continually challenged by the presence of interactions among control loops. The issue of interactions is even more pronounced in systems involving multiloop (decentralized) control schemes. This paper presents a novel method to assess the level of interactions in multivariable control systems. The proposed approach is based on the total directed energy transfer between a pair of variables. The merit of the method lies in its ease of interpretation and versatility in accommodating different controller structures and operating conditions. Further, the method can be applied for both theoretical (when a process model is known) as well as data-driven analysis (when operating data is available). Implementation on synthetic processes are illustrated to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed approach.

Incremental networked predictive control of multi-agent systems with plant-model mismatch and random communication constraints

In this paper, we discuss the cooperative output tracking problem for networked multi-agent systems (NMASs) with plant-model mismatch as well as random communication constraints in the forward and feedback channels of each agent. In order to compensate actively for random communication constraints, that is, network-induced delays and packet dropouts, an incremental networked predictive control scheme based on a state observer is proposed, which consists of a data buffer, an incremental networked predictor, and a network delay compensator. For both the plant-model mismatch case and the plant-model match case, the stability conditions of resulting closed-loop NMASs are derived, respectively. Using the proposed method, the simulation results for three DC motor systems are presented to indicate that desired tracking performance can be achieved.

In this work, a fuzzy predictive optimal control for multivariable nonlinear systems with pure time delays is presented. Therefore, dynamic local linear state models are used at each point of the state space obtained by fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) modelling. The modelling error is considered as white noise, and the state is observed using the Kalman Filter (KF). This method does not take into account possible input constraints. Therefore, it applies to systems where there are no saturation problems. In this work, a new approach in the Model Predictive control (MPC) method is proposed by calculating the control signal increment as a function of the error between a reference state vector and the prediction at N-steps of the state vector instead of using the traditional MPC approach which is based on calculating the error between a reference and the predicted output. The proposed method has a satisfactory tracking performance. The main feature of the proposed method is that it attains computational savings compared to other methods that have used incremental state models, which making it more appropriate for real-time applications.
