As the computer networks growing up rapidly, network engineers and administrators are going through a lot of difficulties to keep the network under their management properly and troubleshoot the issues pretty quick. Also they need to keep thinking about the future growth and compatibility to new features and technologies. Therefor manual network management and monitoring is not efficient anymore and most of the companies are trying to adapt the new technology for automation either in monitoring and/or troubleshooting. Software Defined networking (SDN) is one of the new technologies which is trying to help the network engineers or administrators to have their networks under more control. Also deep-learning and Artificial Intelligent are some technologies which can help to prevent issues or improve the network control performance.

End-to-End Provisioning of Latency and Availability Constrained 5G Services

We address a key challenge of 5G networks by proposing a strategy for the resource-efficient and end-to-end allocation of compute and connectivity resources in a dynamic 5G service provisioning scenario, such that the service latency and availability requirements are guaranteed. Our heuristic algorithm shows that resource efficiency is significantly improved by processing services in the large core data centers (DCs) with a rich amount of compute resources and exploiting the benefits of traffic grooming over the metro and core fiber links. Moreover, our resource-efficient provisioning algorithm avoids possible violation of the service availability requirements caused by reaching the central DC locations by adding backup connectivity resources. Our simulation results demonstrate a resource efficiency improvement reflected by lowering the service blocking probability by up to four orders of magnitude compared to the conventional service provisioning methods utilizing distributed small DCs.

Automating the provisioning of telecommunications services, deployed over a heterogeneous infrastructure (in terms of domains, technologies, and management platforms), remains a complex task, yet driven by the constant need to reduce costs and service deployment time. This is more so, when such services are increasingly conceived around interconnected functions and require allocation of computing, storage, and networking resources. This automation drives the development of service and resource orchestration platforms that extend, integrate, and build on top of existing approaches, macroscopically adopting software-defined networking principles, leveraging programmability, and open control in view of interoperability. Such systems are combining centralized and distributed elements, integrating platforms whose development may happen independently and parallel, and are constantly adapting to ever changing requirements, such as virtualization and slicing. Of specific interest is the (optical) transport network segment, traditionally operated independently via closed proprietary systems, and characterized by being relatively complex and hard to reach consensus regarding modeling and abstraction. In view of the targets, the transport network segment needs to be integrated into such service orchestration platforms efficiently. In this context, this paper aims at providing an introduction to control, management, and orchestration systems, of which the network control is a core component, along their main drivers, key benefits, and functional/protocol architectures. It covers multidomain and multilayer networks and includes complex use cases, challenges and current trends such as joint cloud/network orchestration and 5G network slicing.

Existing network policy abstractions handle basic group based reachability and access control list based security policies. However, QoS policies as well as dynamic policies are also important and not representing them in the high level policy abstraction poses serious limitations. At the same time, efficiently configuring and composing group based QoS and dynamic policies present significant technical challenges, such as (a) maintaining group granularity during configuration, (b) dealing with network-bandwidth contention among policies from distinct writers and (c) dealing with multiple path changes corresponding to dynamically changing policies, group membership and end-point mobility. In this paper we propose Janus, a system which makes two major contributions. First, we extend the prior policy graph abstraction model to represent complex QoS and dynamic stateful/temporal policies. Second, we convert the policy configuration problem into an optimization problem with the goal of maximizing the number of satisfied and configured policies, and minimizing the number of path changes under dynamic environments. To solve this, Janus presents several novel heuristic algorithms. We evaluate our system using a diverse set of bandwidth policies and network topologies. Our experiments demonstrate that Janus can achieve near-optimal solutions in a reasonable amount of time.

With the emergence of flex-grid Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) together with reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers and bandwidth-variable tunable transponders, a changeover from quasi-static to highly dynamic optical networks is expected. To perform resource allocation in such networks, signalling protocols that are able to rapidly set up optical connections are needed. In this paper, we present an analytical approach to evaluating the performance of an existing signalling protocol that provides fast connection setup in dynamic optical networks. The protocol is modelled as a task graph which represents the signalling latency during the connection establishment phase. By using reduction techniques, the graph is simplified so as to obtain a performance model that estimates the mean connection setup time. Simulations are used to validate the analytical performance model. The results show that the analytical model gives precise estimates of the mean connection setup time.

Current practices in network security deployment require multiple specialised devices as firewalls, traffic shapers, sensors or Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) to handle malicious traffic. This practice not only increases the overall operational costs but also makes network administration complicated. The high cost of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation devices empowers centralised services and network architectures as there is not a cost-effective model to deploy them at the "true edge" of the network. This paper describes the design and implementation of a multi-10 Gbit extensible network traffic analysis and policing system. It is composed of logical detection and enforcement functions built from reusable underlying primitives. As an example of such modular approach, we present an innovative DDoS scrubbing system composed of various attack detection primitives, combined with enforcement primitives that include traffic filtering, rate limiting, and proxying. Based on commodity hardware and open source software, such system is price, space, and power efficient enough to be practically deployable at the edge of the network. Performance measurements carried on 10Gbit networks, show that it can effectively provide both traffic visibility and enforcement of a wide range of network traffic policies.

The Dutch railway traffic control is in an urgent need for innovation and therefore turns to gaming simulation as a platform to test and train future configurations of the system. The presence of relevant participants is necessary to keep the fidelity of the gaming simulation high. network controllers are often needed in such games, but are expensive, scarce, and often have limited action, thus making their involvement less than desirable. To overcome this, the current paper introduces the use of intelligent software agents to replace some roles. The cognitive construct of situation awareness is required to model the evaluation of an offer in a negotiation setting, in which a situation awareness model (SAM) is introduced for evaluating offers in complex and dynamic systems.

Adaptive Spectrum control and management in Elastic Optical networks

Elastic optical networking (EON) has emerged in recent years as a promising solution for implementing flexible bandwidth channels (flexpaths) that efficiently match the allocated bandwidth with the traffic demand using agile granularities of spectrum allocation. However, the additional flexibility in such networks raises challenges in terms of efficient control and management of spectrum resources. Among them, three important issues are (1) mitigation of spectral fragmentation, (2) implementation of impairment awareness and enhancement of robustness against impairments for potentially large-bandwidth flexpaths, and (3) design of an efficient restoration scheme to combat network failures. This paper presents an adaptive spectrum control and management scheme, which includes: dynamic on-demand spectral defragmentation, adaptive combinational quality of transmission (QoT) restoration (ACQR) and supervisory channel-assisted active restoration, to account for the three issues above. We present scalable networking algorithms and experimental demonstrations that address these issues in an EON testbed. Simulation results show that the defragmentation technique is capable of reducing the provisioning blocking probability by half with only one defragmentation module on each link. Then, we also show that the ACQR can efficiently restore many degraded flexpaths on the same impaired link while reducing the restoration blocking probability by a factor of 10 compared with the conventional rerouting method. At last, we show via simulation the advantages of using supervisory channels to determine restoration path quality and selection in EON restorations. This paper also presents experimental demonstrations to corroborate the effectiveness and feasibility of implementing these capabilities in next generation optical networks.

This paper presents the design of high performance embedded network technique applied to the pulse electroplating powersupply,using 32 bit high performance embedded microproc essor as central controller to run the eCos embedded real-time operating system so as to realize the current, pulse real-time and effective monitoring, which greatly improves the reliability and high precision of control system. And it is convenient for construction of industrial control network and achieving the network control and management of multiple devices, which is with the no comparable advantages that traditional design doesn't have.
