A supervisory fuzzy neural network controller for slider-crank mechanism

A supervisory fuzzy neural network (FNN) controller is proposed to control a nonlinear slider-crank mechanism in this study. The control system is composed of a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous servo motor drive coupled with a slider-crank mechanism and a supervisory FNN position controller. The supervisory FNN controller comprises a sliding mode FNN controller and a supervisory controller. The sliding mode FNN controller combines the advantages of the sliding mode control with robust characteristics and the FNN with on-line learning ability. The supervisory controller is designed to stabilize the system states around a defined bound region. The theoretical and stability analyses of the supervisory FNN controller are discussed in detail. Simulation and experimental results are provided to show that the proposed control system is robust with regard to plant parameter variations and external load disturbance. An adaptive fuzzy-neural-network controller for ultrasonic motor drive using the LLCC resonant technique

In this study an adaptive fuzzy-neural network controller (AFNNC) is proposed to control a rotary traveling wave-type ultrasonic motor (USM) drive system. The USM is derived by a newly designed, high-frequency, two-phase voltage source inverter using two inductances and two capacitances (LLCC) resonant technique. Then, because the dynamic characteristics of the USM are complicated and the motor parameters are time varying, an AFNNC is proposed to control the rotor position of the USM. In the proposed controller, the USM drive system is identified by a fuzzy-neural-network identifier (FNNI) to provide the sensitivity information of the drive system to an adaptive controller. The backpropagation algorithm is used to train the FNNI on line. Moreover, to guarantee the convergence of identification and tracking errors, analytical methods based on a discrete-type Lyapunov function are proposed to determine the varied learning rates of the FNNI and the optimal learning rate of the adaptive controller. In addition, the effectiveness of the adaptive fuzzy-neural-network (AFNN) controlled USM drive system is demonstrated by some experimental results.

Many studies, among them Kawato's work, have been undertaken in order to apply both the flexibility and the learning ability of neural networks to dynamic system controllers. However, many parameters, such as the optimum shape of the sigmoid functions (nonlinear saturated functions), are determined by trial and error. These parameters inhibit the advanced application of neural networks. Therefore, this paper proposes an autotuning method for the optimum sigmoid function of neural networks. Simulated results using a learning-type direct controller confirm both the practicality and the characteristics of our proposed autotuning method.

A HOME network controller FOR PROVIDING BROAD-BAND ACCESS TO RESIDENTIAL SUBSCRIBERS

As new broadband networks and multimedia services emerge, users are increasingly likely to access information remotely from their homes. In this paper we present a cost-effective method for connecting multimedia terminals in a residence to the external broadband network, so as to support multiple simultaneous user sessions. At the heart of the proposed design is a Home network controller that terminates the external broadband network upon its entry into a home, and enables media distribution within the home by employing existing networking technologies, such as coaxial cable for real-time multimedia delivery to television sets, and Ethernet for data communication to home computers.

Co-design for an SoC embedded network controller

With the development of Ethernet systems and the growing capacity of modem silicon technology, embedded communication networks are playing an increasingly important role in embedded and safety critical systems. Hardware/software co-design is a methodology for solving design problems in processor based embedded systems. In this work, we implemented a new 1-cycle pipeline microprocessor and a fast Ethemet transceiver and established a low cost, high performance embedded network controller, and designed a TCP/IP stack to access the Intemet. We discussed the hardware/software architecture in the forepart, and then the whole system-on-a-chip on Altera Stratix EP1S25F780C6 device. Using the FPGA environment and SmartBit tester, we tested the system＇s throughput. Our simulation results showed that the maximum throughput of Ethemet packets is up to 7 Mbps, that of UDP packets is up to 5.8 Mbps, and that of TCP packets is up to 3.4 Mbps, which showed that this embedded system can easily transmit basic voice and video signals through Ethemet, and that using only one chip can realize that many electronic devices access to the Intemet directly and get high performance.

Load frequency control for power system with reheat steam turbine and governor deadband non-linearity by using neural network controller

In this paper, a neural network (NN) controller is presented for load-frequency control of power system. The NN controller uses back propagation-through-time algorithm. In the power system, the reheat effect of the steam turbine and the effect of governor deadband non-linearity are considered by describing function approach in the state space model. By comparing the results of simulations, the performance of the NN controller is better than conventional controller. NN controller gives a shorter settling time and eliminates the neccssity of parameter estimation time required in conventional adaptive control techniques.

Modified Elman neural network controller with improved particle swarm optimisation for linear synchronous motor drive

A modified Elman neural network controller is proposed to control the mover of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) servo drive to track periodic reference trajectories. First, the dynamic model of the PMLSM drive system is derived. Next, a modified Elman neural network is proposed to control the PMLSM. Moreover, the connective weights of the modified Elman neural network are trained online by back-propagation (BP) methodology. However, the learning rates of the online-training weights are usually selected by trial-anderror method, which is time-consuming. Therefore an improved particle swarm optimisation (IPSO) is adopted in this study to adapt the learning rates in the BP process of the modified Elman neural network to improve the learning capability. Finally, the control performance of the proposed modified Elman neural network controller with IPSO is verified by the simulated and experimental results.

To guarantee network Quality of Service (QoS), network controllers designed and applied in real networks are necessary. How to automatically find efficient parameters of a controller and get the setting time of control system in simulation is a common problem in the process of controller design. Some definitions, experience rules and algorithms based on statistical theory are proposed in this paper, which are able to get the setting time, judge the stability feature of network control system and compare the control effects of different controllers. We tested the algorithms with network congestion controllers and the experiments results show that they are efficient to network controller evaluation, which enlarge the testing range and facilitate controller design.

The existence of random time-delay in the Internet makes telerobot unable to receive the timely correct instructions. This may seriously decrease the stability and reliability of the system. To solve this problem, many researchers have turned their interest to increasing the local-autonomy of the telerobot. In this paper, a real-time selective neural group network controller for the local telerobot system is presented and described in details. In the simulation experiments, we compared it with the traditional fuzzy logic strategy. Simulation results showed: the ability of online learning, information accessing and the predicted evaluation about selective strategy are much higher than the fuzzy logic strategy.
