In many envisaged satellite-based networks, such as constellations or federations, there often exists a desire to reduce data latency, increase delivered data volume, or simply exploit unused resources. A strategy is presented that achieves efficient routing of data, in a store-carry-forward fashion, through satellite networks that exhibit delay- and disruption-tolerant network characteristics. This network-layer protocol, termed Spae, exploits information about the schedule of future contacts between network nodes, because satellite motion is deterministic, along with the capacity of these contacts to route data in such a way as to avoid significant overcommitment of data along a resource-limited journey. Results from simulations of a federated satellite system indicate consistent benefit in terms of network performance over other, less-sophisticated, conventional methods, and comparable performance to a packet-optimal, full-knowledge approach.

This work studies the networking scheme of NATO's next generation narrow band waveform (NBWF) radios. The key techniques that effectively enable the multihop capabilities for the NBWF radios are described first. Then a network emulator is developed to evaluate two critical algorithms, the link metrics mapping algorithm and the relay node selection algorithm, employing realistic network scenario parameters. Performance results are illustrated and the options for dynamic algorithm adaptation are elaborated.

A scheme for narrowband radio networks is presented that automates IP connectivity in the tactical edge, and between the edge and the backbone. The solution separates wired IP routing from routing in the radio network and applies cross-layer address management to efficiently map and distribute IP routes. Evaluated on realistic propagation and radio models in typical deployment scenarios, the approach has very little overhead and provides fast route convergence to meet the requirements of combat radio networks. This work is part of the basic research and development to support the implementation of NATO's Narrowband Waveform (NBWF).

In this paper,we provide a whole concept on current structure of the trends of the mechanisms towards the wireless and mobile networks by analyzing and comparing the existing solutions of TCP,its underlayerprotocols and uplayer *** propose our classification of these schemes of TCP and underlying protocols into two basic groups:hand-off proposals and wireless proposals and discover that the combination of best wireless scheme and best hand-off method can provide very good *** the complexities of coordination between the layers of the stack,we expect that all the problems of handoffs, wireless and application adaptation can be solved efficiently at TCP layer, so developing new mechanisms at TCP layer such as our F-TCP mechanism and cooperating them with existing schemes is necessary.
