The application of a CFD code (ASTEC) and a network code (PENHEAT) in analyzing the thermosyphonic behavior of argon gas in a long vertical annulus

In the pool design of the fast reactor, the roof structure is penetrated by a number of pumps and heat exchanger units that are cylindrical and differ in size. Between the sodium pool surface and the roof is a layer of hot argon gas that can flow into the small annular gap between these components and the roof containment as a thermosyphon. It is estimated that about one third of the total heat load to the roof structure is transported by such thermosyphons. It is therefore important for the designer to have a means to determine the net heat exchange between the penetration and the argon gas. At NNC Ltd., two fluid flow codes are being utilized for analyzing these thermosyphons. The first is based on the PENHEAT general purpose network code which was developed in house and tailored to the fast reactor penetration requirements. PENHEAT is a pseudo-three-dimensional code since only one cell spans the space between the two annular walls. The second is based on the AEA ASTEC computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. This paper describes the application of these codes for analyzing the thermosyphonic behavior of the argon gas inside a long vertical annular penetration of nonuniform cross-section and compares the results.

The network code on Requirements for Generators, known also as RfG, is the most recent document approved by the European Commission that recommends the technical conditions for connection and operation of all types of generators in the ENTSO-E zone. Although RfG was published in the Official EU Journal in 2016, each EU member country is responsible to adopt it in the form that best suits to its characteristics. Therefore, the latest achievements in deployment of storage and renewables technologies should be also considered. Moreover, the new concepts included in the EU winter package ( 2016) for empowering the citizen and encouraging prosumer's self-consumption, resilience and efficiency requires careful analysis of the document. This paper aims at identifying some shortcomings of the proposed document, based on latest technology advancements and societal aspirations, and proposes a new approach that allows synchronizing the new network codes with the smart grids paradigm shift.

A linear network code is called k-secure if it is secure even if an adversary eavesdrops at most k edges. In this paper, we show an efficient deterministic construction algorithm of a linear transformation T that transforms an (insecure) linear network code to a k-secure one for any k, and extend this algorithm to strong k-security for any k . Our algorithms run in polynomial time if k is a constant, and these time complexities are explicitly presented. We also present a concrete size of for strong k-security, where is the underling finite field.

Cooperative technology could improve communication reliability by exploiting transmit diversity. However, the issue of imperfect frequency and timing synchronization makes it a challenge in practice. In this paper, we propose a novel cooperative communication scheme based on full space-time network code (FSTNC), which can maintain a stable network throughput and overcome the imperfect frequency and timing synchronization. Compared with space-time network code (STNC), FSTNC considers the relay cooperation and transmission order, and thus it further enhances the system reliability and efficiency. To verify the performance of the proposed scheme and reveal its advantage, we derive the exact symbol-error rate (SER) expressions for arbitrary order M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK) modulation and verify by simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed FSTNC scheme outperforms the conventional STNC scheme in terms of the SER performance. The advantage is more distinct when the relay transmission order is taken into consideration.

The reliability of multicast network where source delivers many frames of data to multiple receivers over a large scale network is degraded by delay of retransmissions after some data frame has been lost. This paper proposes a coding technique applying on network layer to combat this problem by using systematic network code with overheard retransmission technique. Latency of retransmission and throughput will be measured to represent the performance of this algorithm. The results show that this technique can improve reliability and performance of multicast network by decreasing a delay of retransmission for 40-70 % and yet increasing throughput for more than 8-19% compared with a conventional method.

In this paper, we investigate a rateless code design for a two-way relay channel (TWRC) where a network coding operation is employed at the relay. Rateless codes are used at both two users and the relay nodes as it can cope with various channel conditions. We propose a hybrid estimate and forward (EF)/decode and forward (DF) protocol with rateless codes for the TWRC. In the proposed scheme, the relay uses a joint belief propagation (BP) decoding process to decode the messages of two users. Depending on whether the relay recovers both users' messages, only one user's message or no users' messages, the relay will generate three different types of signals, namely, network code (NC), soft network code (SNC) or soft physical-layer network code (SPNC), respectively. We design the degree distribution of the rateless codes for the three nodes of the TWRC, to make it suitable not only for decoding at two users at high SNR, but also for decoding at the relay at low SNR. We show that the proposed hybrid EF/DF protocol with the designed rateless codes outperforms other schemes significantly in terms of bit error rate (BER) performance.

recently, a novel switch architecture is proposed to provide more scalable and lower delay service for the internet applications. But the structure is blocking and based on packet dividing. It causes serious performance degradation for most variable-sized packet switch application. In this paper, a new network code scheme is proposed to improve the packet loss performance of a two stage load-balanced structure based on concentrators. Analysis and simulation show that this network code scheme obviously cut down the packet loss of Load-Balanced Multi-path Self-routing switch while keeping the other good features of this structure.

network coding is promising alternative to traditional content distribution system in P2P networks. The block scheduling problem in P2P network is simplified, since intermediate node to perform randomized block selection for arbitrary information mixture, resulting in more efficient content dissemination in P2P network. Traditionally it is performed by random pick and code mechanisms where the packets are chosen randomly for generating the coded packets. After generating the coded packets, it will be sent to their neighboring peers in the network. These packets are called as redundant packet or non innovative packet if it's not useful to those peers. Existing network code based content distribution mechanisms didn't address the problem of reducing the number of redundant coded packets transmission. Hence it increases the number of information flow in the network code based content distribution and makes the network congested. In this paper, an efficient packet selection mechanism, called as Intelligent Packet Coding (IPC) is developed. It improves the efficiency of a network code based content distribution in P2P network further. Each peer in the network can do the intelligent network coding operation with the help of distribution table. This table is created by source node based on the set of packets send to each peers in the group and get updated for each reception/transmission of the coded packets to and from other peers. NS2 simulator is used to simulate the proposed mechanism. Simulation result shows that IPC outperforms the traditional method of network coding in terms time required to download entire content by all the peers in the network and improves the throughput.

In this paper, new code equivalence relationships between a network code and an index code are studied. First, for a given index coding instance, equivalent network coding instances are derived, where an index code achieving the maximum acyclic induced subgraph bound is converted to the corresponding network code and vice versa. Then, the code equivalence results are generalized to erroneous cases for both a given network coding instance and a given index coding instance, that is, code equivalences between a network code with link errors and an index code with side information errors.
