This paper presents an energy-efficient solution to overcome packet loss in Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) by adding seed-based Random Linear network coding to MQTT for Sensor networks (MQTT-SN). Whereas most sensors integrated in common WSN devices consume little energy, using the radio is costly. To increase battery lifetime, devices try to minimize their radio uptime, while still satisfy timeliness and reliability of delivered data. The proposed approach uses an optimized seed-based intrasession network coding scheme for Forward Error Correction to shorten the sensor node's radio uptime, reducing its power consumption. The presented approach is conform to the MQTT-SN specification and, thus, interoperable with existing systems. Since the implementation is based on the application layer, it is seamlessly deployable via Over-The-Air-Programming. The presented evaluation is based on collected traces from a real-world WSN deployment in the context of Precision Agriculture. Radio uptime and power consumption measurements in an experimental testbed confirm the achieved benefits.

Video on Demand (VoD) streaming constitutes a continuously increasing proportion of the global IP traffic. Conventional streaming approaches use a client-server topology, where one server or a group of servers serve all the clients. The main drawbacks of this technology is poor scalability. An alternative is the well known Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network topology which addresses this problem. However, for browser-based application, there is no standard method for distributed data dissemination. We present an application that uses WebRTC to establish direct browser to browser connections. We have designed two protocols WebPeer and CodedWebPeer for browser based P2P streaming. WebPeer is a conventional P2P protocol, while CodedWebPeer is a network coding enhanced P2P protocol. With our system, we demonstrate that using WebRTC P2P assisted VOD streaming can be accomplished. Furthermore, it outperforms the conventional client-server setup in terms of throughput by 70%, for the investigated scenario. In addition, by applying network coding, the performance of the network improves even further.

Video on Demand (VoD) streaming makes up an increasing portion of global IP traffic. Traditionally, data is served by content providers directly, putting a huge network load on the servers. We propose using our WebRTC-based protocols WebPeer and CodedWebPeer to create a P2P-assisted VoD streaming system with network coding. We introduce two metrics: network health to measure overall data saturation and network stability to show if the peers in the network are able to serve each other without the help of the server. We have implemented a testbed to emulate real-life network scenarios that includes a probabilistic model of peer behavior. We show through measurements that by applying network coding, network health is increased by up to 100% without changing the cache size or number of peers. Furthermore, network stability is achieved using up to half the cache compared to the uncoded approach, without increasing the servers load. Finally, to validate the scalability of our solution, we tested our protocols in a network with more than 100 tablets to deliver smooth video playback.

In order to improve the transmission reliability and energy efficiency of wireless sensor network, this paper proposed a transmission method alternative multipath based on network coding(AMNC). In this approach, the data packets are coded at cluster head, and then the encoded packets are transmitted to the sink through alternative multipath. The reliability and energy consumption of WSN are simulated in the MATLAB 7.0. The simulation results indicate that AMNC, which compared with the parallel multipath based on network coding, has a better performance.

network coding is a technique used to improve both wired and wireless networks' throughput and provide reliable transmission. In network coding, original data packets can be encoded to an infinite number of coded packets. A subset of these coded packets is sufficient to decode the coded packets and retrieve the original data. In addition to providing reliable data transmission, network coding can be used as a lightweight security mechanism to protect data against eavesdroppers. An eavesdropper is not able to decode coded packets and retrieve original data unless it has access to a sufficient number of coded packets. In a data transmission application, transmitting more redundant packets increases the chance of delivering a sufficient number of coded packets to the destination. As a result, this increases the reliability of the data transmission. However, more redundant transmissions make the system more vulnerable to eavesdropper attacks because there is a higher chance that an eavesdropper will receive enough coded packets. In this work, we study network coding to provide reliable and secure data transmission schemes by performing a trade-off between the security and reliability of the data transmission. We formulate the problem as a mixed integer and linear programming problem, and we propose a linear programming approximation to solve it. We study the performance of our proposed methods through extensive simulations.

In this paper, we study the throughput of two-hop wireless network coding and explore how the maxi-mum throughput can be achieved under a random medium access scheme. In this paper, the problem of the performance of COPE type network coding under dual source coding architecture is solved. An Embedded Markov Chain Model for coding Nodes is used for our research *** research shows that the maximum normalized throughput subject to fairness requirement is n/n+2, where n is the number of transmitters and 2 is the number of dual source coding numbers of wireless network. What is more,the conclusions show that the actual factors that affect the coding performance include the channel access priority and link scheduling rules of the coding node, and the relationship between the channel access priority and network throughput is investigated. The maximum throughput of the wireless network under the dual coding architecture is proved by the simulation examples. This conclusion provides guidance for further designing routing / MAC based on network coding.

The advantages of using of the mobile sinks (MSs) to perform data collection from Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) are now widely recognized. This is because the MS data collectors can service isolated systems and reduce energy expenditures by minimizing the need for multi-hop networking. However, it remains a challenging problem to support collection activities efficiently within the relevant class of predictable but uncontrollable MSs. This paper presents MuTrans, a novel multi-channel protocol that uses both clustering and network coding techniques to increase the reliability and reduce the latency of data collection in predictable and uncontrollable MS systems. A fairness data uploading scheduling to a mobile collector is presented based on assigning a method for load balancing. The implementation is described by using multiple channels for increased throughput and incorporating network coding for improved reliability. Our evaluation of data aggregation in the presence of packet errors shows that MuTrans can significantly reduce the latency for data collection, thus providing strong support for mobile data collection.

Based on cooperative diversity and network coding, the paper propose a two-way communication system model of vehicle and study the three-slot amplification and forwarding network coding scheme with direct link. The optimal power allocation scheme is obtained by analyzing the optimal power allocation based on the system outage probability. We analyze the influence of distance, speed and time on the probability of interruption. Simulation results show that the power optimization scheme proposed in this paper can obtain a lower outage probability than the equal power allocation scheme.
